Wonderful setting with deer park at front, what a sight when being fed in morning. safe parking, friendly staff, would return' no problems.
Car park some distance from reception, not a major problem.
To arrive in the dark with deers eyes reflecting the headlights was unique. Breakfast peering out into the deer park was a tranquil experience. Great location, proffessional staff, perfect meals at a good price. Love to go back for pleasure this was a business stay
Do like the luxuries of a leisure centre,so missed that one.
The Deer Park The dinner, excellent. Big room
Being overcharged in the restaurant. Not being able to open the windows in our room. Became quite stuffy Lack of atmosphere in the lounge area
Food, Ambiance, Deer Park, Bobby Shanto Column
Beautiful setting. Chosen in the knowledge that everything would be a bit old-fashioned: don't expect sleek and modern in a Grade II listed building.
Comfortable beds Tea-making facilities Breakfast
Noisy Bar expensive Cold corridors (heating off)
The deer park and the way it is cared for. The building itself is lovely and the furnishing is just right. We did not dine but the breakfast was excellent.
Reception is a bit cramped and could do with redesigning to make it more welcoming.
Location, Deer, friendly staff
Everything at this hotel is amazing - the staff, the warm welcome, the fab grounds and lovely rooms and the amazing food - it's all second to none - the only thing that would make it perfect would be a nice deep swimming pool - perhaps the new owner can include that in his improvement plan - whatever happens we'll be back as we love it here xx
Nothing - it's all fab!!!
the place is bit tiered needs some T.L.C
Beautiful period house in lovely grounds. Superb deer park Communal rooms extremely attractive and comfortable Staff friendly and efficient Food good value and enjoyable
En suite and some bedroom furnishings a little tired and dated. En suite was not scrupulously clean!! Dust and hair in corners large dead spider stuck to the bath!!
Well friendly staff
Nothing I disliked
Food: excellent Great service Great hotel with excellent surroundings!
Friendly Staff. Great Room overlooking the Deer Park
In a double room in one of the beds you can very collapse into, impossible to sleep Bath tub never cleaned for 4 days Breakfast table with dirty tablecloth and cups for jam very stained (changed the last day because were more people) Value for money I must say that the hotel is in very busy refurbishment .....
grounds/garden Comfortable quiet room as requested Helpful courteous staff
The staff were efficient and friendly. Lee who was the bar steward supplied us with excellent historical background to the house and unprompted personally escorted us to the most interesting places. This is a place of character once occupied by Bobby Shafto, a man of character and importance to the North-East. The grounds and buildings are worth a visit in their own right.
Dinner was overcooked. Not up to scratch
bedroom was very comfortable
A very relaxing stay in stunning surroundings, set in a deer park. The staff were very helpful and we enjoyed a full English breakfast cooked to order. The rooms were modern and tastefully furnished. This venue is perfect for a wedding.
Some of the carpets in the corridors are in need of updating .
Nicely off the beaten track, but still close enough to allow you to get around.
Double aspect room was perfect. Looked out over deer park. Breakfast cooked to order. Central location to visit Durham and the coast.
Great food and accommodation. Beautiful setting just outside the unlikely town of Spennymoor.
Good wifi in trims would have bend the icing on the cake. But great reception in main rooms.
Location was very peacefull The food was very good Rooms have just been refurbished and very nice Staff very friendly I used the hotel as a stopover on way to Scotland but would recommend for any duration of stay.
No lift to upstairs premium rooms so anyone with walking difficulties must stay in ground floor rooms however the room was lovely so very little to complain about.
the staff, the grounds, the food.
my mattress gave me back ache.
