Score from 408 reviews Good 7.5/10
In a double room in one of the beds you can very collapse into, impossible to sleep Bath tub never cleaned for 4 days Breakfast table with dirty tablecloth and cups for jam very stained (changed the last day because were more people) Value for money I must say that the hotel is in very busy refurbishment .....
The staff were efficient and friendly. Lee who was the bar steward supplied us with excellent historical background to the house and unprompted personally escorted us to the most interesting places. This is a place of character once occupied by Bobby Shafto, a man of character and importance to the North-East. The grounds and buildings are worth a visit in their own right.
Dinner was overcooked. Not up to scratch
bedroom was very comfortable
A very relaxing stay in stunning surroundings, set in a deer park. The staff were very helpful and we enjoyed a full English breakfast cooked to order. The rooms were modern and tastefully furnished. This venue is perfect for a wedding.
Some of the carpets in the corridors are in need of updating .
Nicely off the beaten track, but still close enough to allow you to get around.
Double aspect room was perfect. Looked out over deer park. Breakfast cooked to order. Central location to visit Durham and the coast.
Great food and accommodation. Beautiful setting just outside the unlikely town of Spennymoor.
Good wifi in trims would have bend the icing on the cake. But great reception in main rooms.
Location was very peacefull The food was very good Rooms have just been refurbished and very nice Staff very friendly I used the hotel as a stopover on way to Scotland but would recommend for any duration of stay.
No lift to upstairs premium rooms so anyone with walking difficulties must stay in ground floor rooms however the room was lovely so very little to complain about.
the staff, the grounds, the food.
my mattress gave me back ache.
The Location was fantastic, and the food was fabulous. Deluxe rooms very comfortable
Cold shower, couldn't seem to get it to work properly.
The Hotel was fantastic, just like l thought, the staff were brilliant. The room was very clean and comfortable. Overall the hotel was excellent.
I have an issue with breakfast. We have to give order for breakfast. This is the first time of ordering breakfast. All the Hotels l gave been to, we have to help ourselves. Breakfast took some time to arrive. This is my only complaint.
Have stayed before and standards still the same
Bedroom hot and windows only opened slightly. Plus side - there was an electric fan available
The location was picturesque and being able to get close to the wild life was something very different. I would not hesitate to recommend or visit theis hotel again.
Minor point but we did not have Wi Fi available in the room, certainly not a major issue though
Beautiful hotel in a very rural setting. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the food was excellent.
The deluxe room was a little on the small side, also the view of the deer as advertised was obscured by large over hanging branches . The hotel was remote and quite a way from Durham city centre a car was essential.
The setting and the general ambience of the hotel was fabulous. All staff were charming and helpful.
Our bathroom was rather shabby with a cracked basin and a faulty shower that only trickled boiling water rendering it unusable.
The feel of the place is good. My favourite is the library dining room. The breakfast was excellent. Hot plates, hot food and very tasty. Kids loved the deer park.
We had pre-booked a z bed as an extra bed but it was not in the room when we arrived. The extractor fan wasn't working also.
Loved the location. It was a real gem, surrounded by the deer park with it's very tame deer. Our room was superb and only a few miles out of Durham.
poor mobile signal with Three Mobile. Shower was a bit of a dribble.
The setting. Watching the deer from the restaurant. Being able to amble in the deer park. The cleanliness and the friendly efficient staff.
Everything! A "must visit" hotel.
The location was very good, very relaxing, the ground was good also the interior. The bedroom was very clean, the bed very comfortable. The Hotel was excellent. The food was good. Overall the Hotel fantastic. Matilda from Liverpool
I did not like the idea of waiting for your cooked breakfast, All the Hotels l have been to, the breakfast are already laid out. It will also be nice to be told before sitting down about breakfast. I had to asked for cooked breakfast, before l was told that somebody will come and take my order. That was the only down side for me.
Wonderful location with great views. Very accommodating staff, nice menu in the restaurant and the brasserie. Will definitely stay again
It's a shame there are no gym facilities
The hotel is in a beautiful setting. An old building retaining many original features. I was there with my mother, we found the rooms very comfortable with good views. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Although the hotel was being decorated the staff made it as comfortable as possible. We would definitely go back
I had problems with wi-if in my room, despite several re boots.
Location is idyllic; set in beautiful countryside with not a sound to be heard from the outside world. Having large herds of friendly docile deer and the odd duck or three as neighbours was a great novelty too. From the delicious breakfast to the scrummy dinner, the food on offer was fabulous - the chocolate and orange dessert was THE best pud I've ever had!! Staff were friendly and attentive and the room was very plush and clean. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting a few days peace and tranquillity in the North East of England.
None that are important enough to mention!
All the staff are great. Nothing too much trouble.
No complaints at all
