Very relaxed environment. The man behind the bar was the man who showed me to my room and then who served me drinks at gone 11pm. A nice tight run ship and an excellent, excellent breakfast with very friendly and efficient staff serving on. You've got to have the black pudding. It's fresh and local by the looks of things. Honestly, a perfect place to stop. It's on the main A6 so there is a little road noise if your room is on the front, as mine was but I much prefer that cos you see what's going past and what's going on outside from your elevated position on the first floor!.

Close enough to Chatsworth House On the friday night there was a live singer performing in the bar which was directly under our room. This was very loud in the room and went on until midnight making sleep impossible. Non one informed us of this at the booking stage and we would not have stayed if we had have known how noisey it was going to be. The double bed was not comfortable being two singles pushed together and there was no bath. Altogether not very good at all and I would not recommend this hotel.

Really nice and helpful owner, always wanting to do whatever they could to make sure I got what I wanted. Very helpful with printing out my boarding pass for my flight from London Heathrow. Great full brreakfast. Quiet and comfortable. Very clean and healthy. Perfectly located for my needs. Maybe could do with a lick of paint and few pictures or mirrors in the bedroom.

Food superb but initial appearance slightly off putting at entrance; suggest they simply clean front door step and hall and carpets in hall and on steairs. With the excellent quality of their cooking, they deserve to be noticed wider than the local community but scruffy appearance of entrance hall is initially off-putting. Staff very helpful and hard working. See above. As I said, initial appearance of entrance does not match their superb cooking. Sir Joseph Whitworth would not have approved!

“The staff were welcoming, exceptionally helpful and fun. The service was very good and the breakfast just right for us. The hotel is comfortable, in a quiet location and very convenient for the town. Our main reason for staying was for an evening theatre performance and we thoroughly enjoyed our whole visit.
