From the time I walked through the door to checking out the staff were very attentive and friendly people. It was excellent value for money and the room (although had booked a single) was very spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was also very good and the swimming pool fantastic.
For value for money etc. there was nothing not to like.
The swimming pool was excellent. It was great to take a swim and see all the trees in the early morning sunshine before breakfast.
Cheap and nice for a change.
A little bit haunted for my boyfriend
Nice stay in north(?) wing. Good swimming pool.
No wifi in room. There was a tendency for the door downstairs to close on you, so you would be locked out of Room 40.
nothing to dislike realy, we only stayed the 1night .the pool was great . great location
Location Breakfasts Room Pool
Castle needs some TLC and some redecorating
Location and the building, friendly staff and good breakfast !
Outdated rooms and very dirty. Skirting boards very dusty, carpet not hoovered, bath and toilet dirty, not cleaned properly . Cob webs in the room, ripped towels !
I stayed for a three night break with my 7 year old grandson and found the staff very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed staying in a castle, the family atmosphere and being able to walk to Gulliver's Kingdom and Abraham heights ( we didn't have a car). My grandson loved the castle and commented that the evening hymn singing heard when we were in bed made him feel good. Swimming pool good. We were given a table for 2 in dining room.
Was too late to book evening meal on arrival at 1500. Table tennis advertised on TV in room not available, although we were offered outdoor golf. Key to gate from boundary of castle on walk to Matlock Bath not available (but was hole in gate so managed to get through). Otherwise enjoyed it all.
This place is certainly different. It has a religious slant, I am not religious but it wasn't pushed on you. We really enjoyed the history and atmosphere of the place, the central hall is really unusual. We used a private path to get to matlock bath in 15 mins. Forgot swimming togs so didn't use the pool
Nothing, it was magical, but then I do like somewhere a bit off beat. If you like 5 star chain hotels maybe this wouldn't appeal
The shower was not working properly. From cold to hot in few seconds and back Someone from the cleaning staff entered in our room in the morning without knocking!!!!! Tiny walls, so a lot of noise from the corridor
The little touches like bags provided for wet clothes at the pool, and taking a coffee out to gardens after breakfast. The receptionist was amazingly helpful.
Extremely calm atmoshere in wonderful surroundings.
Nothing at all.
Cleanliness and friendly staff
Needs a bit of an upgrade - shabby chic?
It was a unique experience to spend a night in a hotel with such history. The interiors were appropriate for a castle and so was the service. There were magnificent views from our room, the public areas and the parklands surrounding the hotel. More choices were available in the breakfast menu than in the dinner menu of some hotels.
The wifi in the rooms could have been better, but this hardly influenced our experience.
views, scenery, swimming, walks around the grounds and so close to matlock baths
Staff (aside from being ,ocked out !) Mixed breakfast in groups Excellent porridge / breakfast Bijou room - Mews 11 location Peace & quiet Room rate
Being locked out on arrival Finding the holtel in the dark Having to leave so soon Not knowing about the swimming pool.
I nice place to relax and take In the beautiful scenery thankyou
An amazing place to stay - old fashioned yes but there aren't many places in locations as historically and culturally and geographically rich as this !
The wifi signal is only reasonable down in reception from what I could see. But the walls are made of thick stone and it's an old large building so perhaps not that surprising.
Terrific secluded location in own grounds with outstanding views. Distinctive mock castle late Georgian architecture, with interesting history. Comfortable twin room with en suite. Good selection and tasty breakfast, including vegetarian (for me), and good value. Friendly helpful staff, heated indoor swimming pool. Nearby places of interest. Overall excellent value for money.
Nothing I can think of.
Location Price - it was a very basic, small room but was fine for the price.
Very limited wifi (patchy signal near reception but not in mews building) Limited food availability Breakfast not included
Breakfast good Very Quiet Impressive building Nice walk in the grounds Bathroom clean and modernish
Mattress was a bit solid and room quite small.
Willersley Castle is beautiful, although our rooms were in the mews it was a lovely location, close to Cromford, lots to do nearby, breakfast was nice, friendly staff.
The WiFi didn't work.
