This is an old fashioned hotel and getting a bit tired around the edges. It is situated in a small village about 9 miles from Cambridge and is surrounded buy a large garden. A very quiet area and a totally different experience from the usual holiday inn stay and for the price of a night at the Travel Lodge. Well worth the money, if I am back in the area I will stay there again. Walls are a bit thin and noisy plumbing

Beautiful grounds. We rented two rooms. Room #2 was large, nice view with soft chairs. Room #7 is cramped and barely enough room to get around to the back side of the bed. Same price, completely different quality rooms. I'd recommend insisting on low numbered rooms 1 to 4.

The location is very peaceful and quiet. My room felt very welcoming from the moment I opened the door, a potpourri giving a subtle and very pleasant background ambience. Decoration was a little 'tired', but no distraction. I have travelled worldwide in the course of work and have to say that this was one of the most relaxing hotel rooms I have stayed in. The meal in the Chinese restaurant was very good too. Top marks, if I need to stay in the Cambridge area again I will be back.

We were very impressed with the standard of cleanliness in our room. We also thought the gardens were wonderful. The standard of decoration in the en-suite bathroom was below par and the bath needed a non-slip mat.

Building and gardens lovely and spacious. Decor is tired looking in bedrooms. Ok for one or two nights stay if visiting friends/family locally, would not have wanted to stay longer although building and surroundings very pleasant. Was told breakfast from 7.30am when we arrived on Saturday but in fact was 8.00am on Sunday so had to wait around for staff to attend.

Beautiful property set on lovely grounds/gardens. Large rooms & ensuite with bath & shower Shower could have been better, not very powerful and very temperamental to select correct heat. Communication a little tricky at times as staff speak limited English although they are very pleasant and eager to help. Decor is dated and tatty in places but I didn't mind this so much as it did fit in with the character of the building although I don't know if they will get away with that for much longer. A redecoration is definitely required in the near future. Cooked breakfast should be included not just continental

Converted vicarage located off quiet street in this small fen-land village. Staff are polite and well-meaning and hotel is not without its charm. Room was adequate but was let down by stud-wall between next-door room and shabby decor (wallpaper peeling off in places). Continental breakfast was very basic. Not bad, but not brilliant either.

A most impressive building set within a very attractive and well- maintained garden. Our room was extremely pleasant with two large windows overlooking the garden. It was extensive with plenty of space, and had a bathroom and separate toilet adjoining, as well as a small entrance area. The beds were very comfortable, and the provision of soap, shampoo, towels, etc. very adequate. The room also had the usual facilities, like television, tea/coffee making provision, etc. Outside there is plenty of space for car-parking. Although we thought the place was excellent value for money, we felt that one or two features could have been put to rights as very little or no cost, E.g: a light fitting was coming away from the ceiling in our room, the shower arrangements were poor, and the hand shower itself was damaged. (The bath itself was fine if you were happy to bathe rather than shower.) The wallpaper in the bathroom and toilet was peeling off. The basin pedastal was loose. These small things did not worry us particularly, but it would be simple to put them to rights. Unlike any other hotel in Britain that we have experienced, only a continental breakfast is supplied as standard. (An English breakfast is available at extra cost.) While we are usually happy with a continental breakfast, this was, we thought, a rather unimaginative continental breakfast. However, considering that the hotel overall is good, and the charges very reasonable, we were not too bothered about any of the slight weaknesses, and we would certainly stay there again.

The hotel is reasonable value and our room spacious and clean. The room and hotel decor is a little tired and old fashioned and in need of update. Our bathroom had a bath and no shower. Make sure you read the location - I made the mistake of thinking the hotel was in Cambridge.

The staff were very welcoming. Had a chinese meal in the restaurant which was very tasty. Close to the park and ride for Cambridge. Very nice gardens. We were not aware that it was split into a conference centre, music school. It was run by a chinese family and the restaurant was a chinese restaurant in the evening. Breakfast continental was included in the price and it was £4.50 extra for a cooked breakfast. It was a bit disorganised at breakfast time whcih isn't helped if some staff do not seem to understand english. Chef was off sick so a delay in getting cooked breakfast which was abit mediocre. One of the rooms was a donstairs of an annexe house and smelt very musty/damp.

The only good things were, it was quiet, the bed was comfy & lovely grounds. The only good thing was it was quiet, but then I think that was due to the fact that there was only one other room booked out. Whole hotel is in need of some major refurbishment, tatty wallpaper and dirty carpets, whole place smelt of Chinese food, the toilet seat in my room was loose and nearly came off when I sat on it, the shower screen wasn't water tight, but then you couldn't even say it was a proper shower, a hose connection on the taps which didn't fit properly and shot off & flooded the bathroom, when I tried to use it. (I've had better in Greece!) Furniture was old and covered in ring marks from cups, glasses etc. tv didn't work properly and tea/coffee facility very poor. Really don't know how this accommodation is 4* more like 2. Not once did the staff ask if everything was all right and had I enjoyed my stay I don't think they dare!! Would not recommend!!!.

The towels in the bathroom looked very new, were very white and fluffy. The room was large with a nice view of the garden and the staff pleasant. The continental breakfast was good too. The 4' 6" double bed was on the narrow side but the real problem was the shower, which was only a dribble and needs replacing.

Booking online I thought that we would only get a twin room for myself and 2 children under 4 (that's what the website said) but when we arrived the room was enormous and actually a family room with a double bed and 2 singles for same price (!!!) which was brilliant for the children, plenty of room to have a little play. The ensuite was also pretty big, although in here some of the wallpaper was peeling - put this down to the fact it's a bathroom. Decor inkeeping with the general appearance of establishment, Victorian style, and in decent order. Nice little lounge downstairs and a small bar as well as the restaurant, which we didn't eat in but it smelled nice! Location was very good for us as visiting friends for a wedding, ideally placed for visiting Cambridge and surrounds. Staff polite and well turned out. Breakfast is continental here which is included in price, a full English is available for extra cost.

4* AA rating is a joke. Room was shoddy, wallpaper looked old and was peeling down all the joins. Unsightly large diameter heating pipes crossing ceiling in 2 directions. Had to ask for clean towels. Does not cater for English or Continental Cuisine and only Chinese food offered for evening meal. No safe, no mini bar, no ice provision, no newspapers or provision for ordering, no information leaflets about the area. Full English Breakfast £4=80 extra. Stair carpet filthy. In reality, at generous best, 1to 2 star rating. Value so poor, we feel cheated. Beware AA ratings. No alternative good restaurant within reasonable travelling distance. Forced to use local pubs which were disappointing. Unfortunately, there is nothing about this hotel we could recommend.

I enjoyed the village. I didn't like the shower - it was rather awkward to use. The chair in the room was uncomfortable. The kettle was provided for making tea/coffee but there was nowhere to plug it in unless I put it on the floor or carried it across the room to the bedside table. In fact a double socket would have been appropriate at desk level and I could then have also pluggd in my laptop. I missed an english breakfast however I know it was not advertised.

Location was convenient and quiet. Beds were comfortable. No shower in bathroom. No frosted glass in bathroom despite the fact that we were overlooked. We were unable to operate the tv and there were no instructions for this. Quality of breakfast was poor. This did not seem like 4 star accommodation. Value for money was poor.

It was the cheapest inn the area. It's just not a 4 star hotel - it's a 2 star hotel; what the AA were doing when they awarded 4 stars, goodness only knows. Its faults include: the room smelled musty; poor mattress (you can feel the springs); no bedside tables/lights (you have to get out of bed to switch the lights off); no stand-up showers (you have to hand-hold the shower attachment, as there is no hook for it and there are no shower curtains); only one small towel plus 3 hand towels, for two people; inadequate plates/cutlery at breakfast; cooked breakfast was £5 extra. It was OK for a cheap bed for the night, but the hotel is essentially pretty poor and in need of major refurbishment.
