Location Car park Quiet and comfortable room. Liked the outside seating and garden - relaxing Our 'Special Rate' room was a bit shabby and tired ie bathroom fittings, ceiling floor windows needed attention. Bed linen also rather aged but still comfy.

The hotel is in a prime location for Winchester City centre being seconds away by foot, yet the hotel itself is quiet and tucked away from the hub-bub of the town. The accommodation is clean comfortable, particularily the bed, and well furnished although if boutique is what you want then it's not the place to go. The whole hotel is a bit tired decoratively but this doesn't detract from it's charm. The staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was first class, overall a very good experience and we plan to go back.

Staff were helpful. Service was good. Helpful night porter, barstaff, waiting and reception too. Seperate charging for the breakfast. No inclusive B & B rate. I think the rate for breakfast on arrival was cheaper than if I had booked online. Also in the final invoice I had to point out a mistake in that I was charged for one breakfast too many. While there was a shower unit in the bathroom, I couldn't figure out how to get the shower to work so I had baths. The stair carpets need to be replaced.

Well positioned, handy parking, excellent staff, good breakfast. Rusty shower rail, mould in tile grouting, hair dryer cut out after 15 seconds and smelled of burning, holes in curtains, extractor vent semi blocked with fluff and muck, shower water pressure poor, shower temperature control ridiculously difficult. Really bad considering the cost of the room.

Very local to the centre of Winchester, easy to get to shops, tourist attractions etc. Nice size room with basic amenities. The hotel and rooms could do with a good refurbish, carpets a little shabby.

My parents thoroughly enjoyed this hotel. It was booked through Booking.com somewhat cheaper than the standard hotel rate. Although their room was in the annex they appreciatd the fact they did not have to go outside to get to another building as so often happens in hotels. The fact that the hotel was in the centre of Winchester with its own car park was ideal for the purpose of their trip to see a performance at Wnchester College. I selected this hotel for them as I had stayed there many years ago.so had prior knowledge. I was pleased to learn that it has retained its ambience and high standard of service. The rooms were comfortable and clean and the staff extremely helpufl. The rate did not include breakfast but an excellent breakfast was available at the hotel at an additional charge.

Historic building, very central, helpful staff, good parking Building fabric in urgent need of attention. Badly scuffed paint work on all door frames in corridor, rotton woodwork around bath, kettle didn't turn off automatically, the fabric on the chairs and sofas in the lounge was worn.

Very good location for the main city centre and cathedral. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Loved the two pillows as standard as opposed to the usual one, very thin one. Plenty of very hot water. Bar prices were reasonable. Breakfast was very good, served hot and a wide choice of products. Far too warm, even when we turned the radiator off. Decor is a little dated and shabby in places. Restaurant menu was a little limited so we ate out

The Winchester Royal was perfect for us. Comfortable beds, clean room, great location for Cathedral, shops, visiting relations etc. Great selection of breakfast foods and friendly efficient staff in dining room. Altogether, a very pleasant stay, which we hope to do again.

The hotel is right in the heart of Winchester, with free parking. You can walk straight out of the hotel to cafes, restaurants and the historical sights and countryside beyond. The staff are always friendly, welcoming and helpful. The garden at the rear of the hotel is delightful, especially in summer.Breakfast is of a high standard. I would recommend the hotel to others but warn them that the decor is tired and not up to and modern standard but what it lacks in that aspect it gains in convenience of access to the city centre . We stayed in the old main building on this visit and the decor and furnishings are looking weary and worn. We have stayed in the modern wing on previous visits and even there the decoration could do with freshening up. The temperature in the hotel is always too hot for our taste. The bathroom is very dated by modern hotel standards.

Location - city centre location and close to good restaurants, the cathedral etc. I booked room only (£85 per night) and breakfast cost another £13. Very over-priced for what it was. Luckily, local cafes open early!

Central location, for our needs. The size of the car park, to small for the amount of people using the hotel either as paying guest or public use of facilities such as the bar conference rooms ect.

Location close to Winchester City centre Bedrooms badly in need of re-furbishment as is most of the hotel. Bedroom described as premier was anything but. Reception staff friendly and helpful. Restaurant staff adequate. Chef forgot my order! Food not good enough for prices charged.

Although getting 'tired' decoratively speaking, it was quiet (even though there was an evening event being held), good breakfast and for the most times staff were polite and helpful. Lack of some bathroom facilities (no makeup mirror or shelf for makeup, although there is the usual trouser press!

The Location of the hotel. It looked old and dirty. It needs painting, new carpets, etc - badly! I had no hot water the first night, so had to move rooms in the morning. I just had one blanket on the bed and no spare in the room - it was cold at night.

The staff were friendly, the location was brilliant and the room was lovely. The staff were also really helpful by uncorking my champagne bottle for our arrival and making it look really fancy (it was my partners birthday) Hallway really creaky outside and bathroom could be updated as it didn't match the grandness of the room.
