We were there on the Easter weekend, so I am not sure if it is because of the sudden influx of guests that the breakfast service was really bad. But I think it should not happened nonetheless, as it is a bank holiday weekend, and as a hotel operator they should have expected the influx and be ready to cope.
So, we opted for the breakfast at the hotel on Saturday morning. First of all, we were given only 2 hours window for the breakfast so every guests sort of showed up together. We were shown to our seats by a waiter and he told us that someone will come and get our order. There was no menu. And we just keep on waiting. What we realised is that every guest were ushered to their seats and then they were left there for a good while before anyone come to take the tea/coffee order. So, finally someone came to take our order. While waiting for the full english, we went to get some food from the 'help yourself' continental spread. There were no plates for the toasts/cold meat, only bowls for the cereals. Even if we use the bowl for the toasts, there were no small plates for the nutella which was in a jar. No spoons/fork or anything to enable us to scoop the spread. The fruits and pastries were finished and the basket is empty.
Back to the table. Still waiting for our cooked breakfast. Once in a while, we have a waitress coming into the room full of people, with 2 plates of breakfast in her hands sort of looking around and ask every table if that is their order. It is as if there is no structure to how the order was taken and numbered so that the guests will get their order correctly. On one of the occasion, someone mistakenly thought it was their order and whilst he was about to eat, a shout from a lady from another table said it was hers. Sigh....
And finally ours came. The breakfast was nothing special, and in fact, they got our order mixed up too, but at least it came.
We were both pleasantly surprised with the hotel, because it was situated on a small street, and the entrance was very humble looking but the hotel turns out to be really nicely furnished inside with good space. Location of the hotel is awesome, away from the main street but just 5 minutes away from the shops and tourist attractions are all walkable distance. Train station is also not far away. Definitely a good place to stay for a weekend break.
Staff were generally friendly too
