Score from 266 reviews Good
Room size was good and really comfortable, shower was hot and powerful, location really good, staff were really friendly and breakfast was outstanding giving a really good selection
Nothing not to like
The view from balcony was lovely. Swimming pool nice and warm. Breakfast was good.
No staff to serve us at bar. Had to get receptionist. Swimming pool area was shabby. Balcony full of cigarettes. Stain on bedroom carpet
I was apprehensive about booking rooms in the annex and I knew that would mean that it wasn't in the main hotel building. I shouldn't have worried, despite matching the local building style, the inside is nice and modern, with a lovely patio area right outside the bedroom, looking over greenery and the lake itself.
The only real down side was that we originally planned to go up to Ambleside for a meal but we opted to stay at the hotel for the 3 course meal because of the convenience. Although there was nothing wrong with the food or the speedy service, I didn't think it was worth the £16.50 a head that we were charged. It was only a very small grumble however as breakfast was lovely!
Good location Comfy room and clean room! Swimming pool and sauna Friendly staff on reception
Menu was poor- staff in the bar were also not very friendly WIFI was quite bad- kept cutting out!
We had a nice room. Food was plain but nice and good value for money. Nice little bar.
Swimming pool was in need of decoration.
we stayed in one of the lodges, it was lovely, had the weather been nicer we would have loved to it outsides on the patio table and chairs, for breakfast we both had porridge to start, it was probably the best porridge I have ever tasted.
wasn,t keen on the cooked breakfast, bacon was a strange grey colour, also the 2 single beds pushed together were of slightly different heights, no good for cuddling up.
2 beds pushed together to make double .
We had a large room with lots of space for the bags.
The building needs a little work on it. I would not recommend eating at the hotel. We did order dinner but could not eat it. It was far to cold to fine food late at night.
Style of decor
only a 10 minute drive to Bowness, nice little pool but no lockable lockers .
hotel is in need of updating. we had a ground floor room which seemed quite nice on 1st impressions..... on closer inspection we noticed that the carpet was covered in dog hair my partner has a dog hair allergy so we asked for the room to be either re cleaned or change of room, no rooms available so someone would re vacuum , when we returned from evening out it, it appeared to not have been done, we asked again at reception and was told that they had spent 40 mins re cleaning it I had in my hand a ball of dog hair that I had picked up so it can not have been, another member of staff arrived with a vacuum cleaner and a damp cloth, neither of which worked. the only room left was of the same standard he told us, we appreciate that the hotel caters for the visually impaired who have guide dogs, but surely everyone deserves a clean room. the hotel could do with an industrial vacuum cleaner. breakfast was very nice but would have liked to have chosen my own flavoured yogurt and been given a choice of fruit juice. possibly keep some rooms pet free. or better cleaning
Pool lovely and warm. Lovely food. Warm and friendly
Room was excellent - even provided bed for my dog with bedding and dog bowls, also provided dog towels. Beautiful old building well looked after with lovely gardens. Great location, staff friendly, great breakfast. Would definitely use this hotel again.
Layout of the bar area - less informal and softer lighting would have been nicer
We liked the view from the room.
The bed wasn't a double, it was 2 singles pushed together even though we paid extra and it wasn't comfortable. No remote for the television. No bath.
Very organised new years eve.
Residents need to be told the hotel caters alot for the disabled and blind prior to booking their stay.
Clean room with comfortable bed and nice view across grounds. Good breakfast. Hotel has lovely, caring staff who go the extra mile to make sure guests enjoy their stay. Bar stayed open for as long as we wanted, really enjoyed our stay. Thank you. : )
Location of hotel, with easy access to east Windermere towns and pleasant surroundings. General condition of hotel looked fresh. bedroom and bathroom were pleasant and had good facilities.
Location of the hotel and the surrounding area is a defnite plus. Good comfortable rooms. Very "Manor" like interior. Staff were good.
You have to reserve a seat for dinner even when its not a peak visitor time, and we were not told that. Good thing that although we showed up a bit late, they were accomodating enough to give us a table. Food is expensive though. You only have options of 3 or 2 course dinner and they cost for residents ~£16 and ~£14 for each diner.
Location. View. Cottage out with hotel clean, modern, very good indeed.
Hotel shabby, decor very very tired and dated. No atmosphere in bar whatsoever. Breakfast mediocre. One other couple in dining room. Dining room dark, dated and oppressive.
Swimming pool closed. Inadequate sound proofing between rooms - could here every word spoken in next room - before 6am! Breakfast OK but nothing special.
Pet friendly with dog bed and bowls in the room and dog towels available at reception to dry off your soggy friend after a cold and wet walk! The food in the bar was tasty and well presented. My room was spacious and very clean.
The only disappointment was that the heating in the pool was faulty so I didn't venture into the cool water.
The staff were very attentive especially at meal times. Enjoyed the 'breakfast menu' rather than the usual buffet. Room and hotel was lovely and warm, much appreciated on a cold winters day. Would stay again.
Very comfortable hotel, rooms were luxurious and spotlessly clean, with lovely indoor pool and excellent food and service in bar and restaurant. Staff were extremely helpful and we all had a fantastic stay here.
Location, Size of room, dog friendly and the staff were friendly.
Cleanliness (a few cobwebs) and the shower needed a bit of time before hot water flowed. Due to time we needed to leave we were supplied a cereal breakfast with Toast.
Lovely huge family room. Everything we needed for our 2 night stay. Would of liked a bath in the en-suite for the kids but it didn't spoil the stay. Lovely setting. Great breakfast , certainly set you up for the day and had a meal in the restaurant on our first night as arrived after 6pm and it was great too. Good value. Would most certainly come again. Had a lovely stay. The kids even went for a dip in the pool which they loved. Lovely place.
No wifi in the room. Not flexible with dinner menu
