Winston Country House Hotel and Spa

The staff were very helpful. The breakfast was lovely. The room was clean and the price was right.

I was looking forward to the gym and swimming pool. I was not told until I had booked, that the swimming pool was closed. The gym consisted of 1 item, a bicycle type machine. And through no fault of the hotel, there was a christmas party which left people shouting into the early hours. If we had only booked in for 1 night, this would have been a problem as we were there to relax.

After standing at reception for 5 minutes, was greated with only got the oiutside rooms and foods finnished for the night. Ok it was 8.30- but they continued to serve food to another party until after 10. Breakfast not until 8.30 and I had to be out by then, so kindly arranged "continental breakfast" that I could carry to my room because it was raining. Only edible item were the wheetabix. Service at bar equally awful.

We love the Winston Hotel, this was our second visit there and we will go back again. It is very friendly, to a very high standard and the food is amazing.

The only slight problem we had was that on arrival the hotel were not aware of our booking. Fortunately, I had our confirmation with us and they had spare rooms.

I liked the location as it was near to the main area of Swansea and was very quiet.The room was clean and nicely presented.The cost of £45 for 2 people was a bargain.

The room was very cold and not well sound proofed, we could hear people quite clearly in the neighbouring room. The bathroom was small and could have done with some maintenance, mould around the plughole and on the ceiling above the shower, some of the floor tiles were chipped and looked scruffy.

The food was good with an excellent breakfast. The owner recognised that we were not enjoying the stay (for the reasons set out below), and for this reason, and also because of a mix up in the menu at dinner on Friday night, he did not charge for that meal.

We were the only couple in the hotel. The remaining guests were a party of about 25 male middle aged golfers from Essex and a group of 6 Irish men who appeared to represent the Irish swearing team but apparantly were supporters of Munster Rugby Club. This gave a very strange atmosphere. The noise from singing and carousing in the bar went on until 3 am. As the hotel is small, the noise was very audible in the bedroom. The spa was closed on Saturday afternoon for a function. The disco finished at midnight. As the bar was not attractive, we were confined to the bedroom. The bedroom was cramped. For parties of golfers it may work well. For others we would recommend that one checks first what functions are taking place before booking

The staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel was very comfortable.The decor in our room was lovely.

It should be stated on the website that there is no full dinner on a Sunday evening. Only bar snacks are available. The 2% charge for credit card payment should also be stated.

Convenient for a short break with walks to the Gower coast

The Winston Country House Hotel was one of the best small hotels we have stayed in. The staff, facilities, and especially the food were superb. The situation was so restful and relaxing, a wonderful place to enjoy a short or long break at any time of year.

Well-placed to explore the Gower peninsula for the first time and also within easy reach of Swansea when the weather was terrible!

Room was rather small and fussily decorated - ornaments etc. Cooked breakfasy was good but toast was awful.
