Dating back to 1796, the adults-only Royal Clarence Hotel is situated on the seafront at Burnham-on-Sea. Guests can enjoy far-reaching sea views from the 1st floor covered veranda.

Score from 24 reviews Wonderful
Freindly and homely. Comfortable rooms with character - very welcoming. Enjoyed taster menu for dinner and and great full english at breakfast.
Quite a few cobwebs on the ceiling, a few hairs in the bathroom and empty crisp packets left in drawers which was disappointing
The facilities were great, the staff had accommodated our request for a bath which was much appreciated and they were attentive, friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The location and look of the hotel itself were absolutely gorgeous. We will definitely be returning
Staff were helpful, accommodating and friendly. Food was excellent. Room was very pretty, lovely location.
Our twin bedded room was in an annex and did not meet the standards of the rest of the hotel. The cost of breakfast should be included in the room cost, and the meal and drinks cost are about 10% too high. Too many steps & no sloops for the aged.
General quality of the furnishing. Attention of staff. The views. The brown direction sign just before the turn off.
The hotel did not have our booking, although rooms were available. Tired fittings and plumbing. Pleasant staff but the hotel is in need of refurbishment.
Great location. Secluded and quiet. Good breakfast, although a little pricey at £11.95.
Friendly and family run. Location was perfect for daughter and my overnight seaside trip.
Room was very hot but that's because of the weather
We had a fantastic stay . The food and staff were amazing
Decor a little tired in places
Food was excellent
unfortunately got room above entrance so noisy not enough parking spaces
the room and scenery met by owner who was very polite and made us at feel at home
Although I realise the room was for a single occupancy, it had a double bed - and therefore not enough space in which I could work comfortably. The lounge area was also quite small. The lighting in the hotel appeared to be quite dull - and kept flickering?? I also had a bad experience with a meal, which had to be sent back to the kitchen.
I thought the staff were quite engaging and helpful - although there didn't appear to be a dedicated "front of house" person, on duty each evening.
Breakfast is not included but there again it is correctly advertised in booking so no surprises there
Beautiful romantic surroundings, large 4 poster bed and great heating system in the room. Dinner was lovely and the bar and restaurant are beautiful. Hosts are very charming
Very tired decor. Limited choice on menu. Cost of small room breakfast not even included
The over all setting & style of house
Breakfast was extra cost, in our view should have been included in cost of room. Young staff not quite up to serving it, Owner had to intervene.
Lovely setting set in beautiful small scaled Somerset. Friendly welcome, well furnished bedrooms and bathroom. Environment, away from it all, relaxing and private. Other residents advised that restaurant was excellent, we however had eaten midday and did not take advantage of their evening meals.
Quiet location with outstanding views of the surrounding countryside with easy access to the motorway and areas of interest.
Lovely setting, good food, imaginative menu, Very welcoming and charming hosts and staff.
Lovely comfortable room, homely, characterful, lack of corporate blandness, amazing views. The food is extraordinarily good and the surroundings are idyllic.
The room was dreadfully outdated with only a double bed that was very creaky. The decor was very poorly done in the first instance and certainly not maintained to a standard I would expect. Based solely on the room itself, this was barely a 2 star and most certainly not 4. Having recently stayed in a 5 star hotel I can honestly say there was no comparison. Room/bathroom also smelt musty and damp.
Location was lovely and the landlord very friendly and welcoming. I did not eat there so cannot comment on any other services.
Didnt really feel welcome. Breakfast over priced for what it was.
Location was nice. Shower was prity poor. Bed posts not fixed to wall and rattled.
Unfortunately the Woodlands has changed hands and whereas the previous owners were very hands on, providing a welcoming family house atmosphere the present owners are inconspicuous by their absence, possibly due to having small children which take up their time. There is something missing from the super atmosphere of previous visits. The staff who have been at the hotel for many years still maintain the standards set previously, seemingly with lower staff numbers, but with the innovative and friendly chef/administrator leaving this week, and others planning on leaving one does wonder as to the future. There appears to be great emphasis on weddings which no doubt pays the bills in a difficult financial climate but I desperately wanted to spend a week rearranging the dining room, tidy things up, get rid of unnecessary clutter to just restore the classy and welcoming atmosphere of previous times. It would be very sad to see this hotel decline any further as it is a little jewel.
Woodlands is situated in a lovely setting, peaceful, the rooms are excellent with various sizes on offer and always provide an excellent standard of cleanliness. The food offered is very good, albeit there is less fruit on offer, but the present chef, who also runs the hotel, is a lovely individual, being helpful and obliging. The staff are brilliant in every way nothing is too much trouble. A short walk away is a lovely village with other facilities such as a fantastic pub called The Red Cow serving great food. The area offers seaside or country with walks up the Knoll with all the history surrounding it. We have stayed at the Woodlands a number of times and always found it a haven from the hustle and bustle of life. We hope it maintains the positives it an offer.
Nice Hotel, the rooms are fine. But we found the house could be a little better kept. And the menue sounded better than the food indeed was.
Nothing really metioning.
Lovely room, very helpful owners, food was excellent clean and tidy.very helpful ,peace and quiet location dispute the roadwork noise outside entrance.would recommend to others.would return to hotel .
