눉It is an old building, so there are one or two things in need of maintenance. The hotel's proximity to the M25 is a bit of a drawback, because although you can't see it (it sits beyond the hotel garden's ample hedge), when you open the windows, you can very much hear it. However, the double glazing in the room does ensure that it cannot be heard when the windows are closed. Although a grand old dame in the Surrey countryside, we were expecting the hotel to feel like a country hotel, but it felt more like a corporate hotel in the country, next to the M25.
눇The hotel itself is a grand old building, with lots of historical interest. Being an old building, it is not in perfect nick, but this was acceptable and understandable to us. The staff were very helpful - for example, when we arrived and checked in to our room, it was smaller than we had anticipated. So, we requested a slightly larger room, and they immediately obliged and didn't charge any extra. A cynic might say that they booked us into a smaller room than necessary initially, but, I like to think otherwise. The free breakfast was more than sufficient, with all the usual options available on the buffet table and various cooked meals on offer. It wasn't 5-star gourmet dining, but who wants that for breakfast anyway? We had dinner in the restaurant one evening, which was very pleasant and tasty. They also offer high tea in the cozy grand hall, which we didn't have, but which looked very delicious and decadent in front of the fire.
