The Woodstock House Hotel is in a great location for West Dean Gardens, Goodwood, Chichester etc in the lovely hamlet of Charlton surrounded by fields and the South Downs. Rooms are nicely situated around a very pleasant courtyard garden, good breakfasts (excellent local sausages) are served, and it's very close to The Fox Goes Free pub which serves excellent food (may need to book at busy times). On the down side The Rose Room was a little cramped, we couldn't find a hairdryer (luckily we'd brought one in case), and power points were rather inaccessible: over all, despite its plus points, the hotel felt a bit over-priced.

The staff were welcoming, making us a pot of tea (free!) on our arrival to drink in the lounge. While the lounge was cold on our arrival, loads of logs slung into the wood-burner soon warmed us up. The double room we thought we had booked was a twin room (room 4). It was quite small, and the en-suite shower/basin/toilet room was tiny with rather battered decoration.

Lovely location, attractive building. Room clean, comfortable and warm. Good breakfast. Staff were monosyllabic. No communication beyond what was absolutely necessary. Downstairs sitting room and dining room was a bit chilly.

Homely, extremely clean and comfortable and close to good pub food.A Very welcoming log fire in a super lounge and a protected garden which looks as though it could be a suntrap in summer. The room was newly- painted and well equipped with a spotless en-suite. Breakfast was ample and offered various options to suit anyone. The location was easy to find and in lovely countryside only a few miles from the town, the Downs and the sea. Also, the beds were very comfortable indeed! The only slight downside was that access through the porch at the back next to the car park was locked in the evening so we had to walk round to the front door in darkness along the small road to gain access via the front door.

Pleasant place for our purposes, and a satisfactory breakfast! The only little problem was that the radiators were off, and when we arrived back at midnight, my wife felt definitely cold. However, turning the radiators on then ensured a warm mornign awakening.

Beautiful location in a pretty village with an excellent gastro pub. Comfortable bed, good bed linen and spotlessly clean. Very quiet. Excellent breakfast. Rather tired decor, bathroom facilities and layout poor.

Location in a village, only a few hundred yards from a pub that served food. Outlook from dining room/sun room onto pleasant courtyard garden. Lack of facilities. It was much more "Guest House" than "Hotel". We were hoping for a meal on the evening of our arrival but were told that it "wasn't worth their while". The bar was not open, although we read on the literature in our room that it could be opened "on request". Our room was cold. Heating came on for 1 hour before breakfast, but not early enough for us both to bath/shower in comfort and also for 1 hour in the evening - although, on our final evening it did not come on at all. The public areas were cold. There was not a proper shower in our en suite. The shower head connected to the bath supply would not run at an even temperature but would have surges of very hot or very cold water.

The hotel is in a delightful location nestling in a little hamlet. There is plenty to see and do, and the hotel is not too far from historic towns and places of interest.

Comfortable hotel in a quiet village. Good breakfast and friendly staff. Towels weren't changed in a four night visit. Hotel website refers to evening meals being available at weekends. Not so!. However, not a major problem as a very good pub almost next door.

The location is great and the two pubs within walking distance have good food. The Fox goes Free is practically next door and is a friendly pub with a nice garden and good atmosphere. The breakfast was cooked to order and excellent. The room was clean and comfortable and everything worked. I thought it was expensive and although there was a hairdryer in the room I had to move the mirror in order to plug in the hairdryer and look in the mirror.

“We had a good welcome and so did our dog. Dogs bowls and towels available. The room overlooked Marine Gardens and the Sea. The room was large, clean and very comfortable. Dinner was inexpensive..as advertised..home cooked food and very tasty. The full English breakfast was excellent. We couldn't fault the hotel at all and thought it great value for money.” Gillian, Reservations |
