Reception Staff smiled, room clean and working, breakfast excellent.
Only staying there one night.
Beautiful setting with lovely walks. Plenty of lovely rooms to sit and relax in. Bar food very good. Staff friendly. Relaxing and restful stay.
My room was near the lift on the ground floor also public toilets. The doors are heavy and can't be shut quietly which during the night could be noisy. I would request not to have this room again for that reason.
Comfortable room, peaceful
I requested a room change as the first room I was allocated was by a fire door which banged everytime someone went through it. Staff were understanding and moved me to another room which was really nice and had no noise issues.
The arranged fee was £43 for the double room and told you there would be two in it. They tried to charge £65 but I refused and showed them the Booking. com agreement. After an argument they capitulated.
Friendly staff, good breakfast, fair price.
Room could use a good dust. Both nights, as late as 10:30pm, could here loud noises from the corridoor on the ground floor.
Friendly staff. It was the quietest hotel I've stayed in over 21 years...bliss.
The coffee at breakfast was absolutely discusting. I mean it....it was so bad I spat it back in the cup and left it.
Wifi in rooms which was a surprise, the staff were lovely . The bar and food was lovely . Quiet. No noise, the heating was on constantly so it was lovely an warm (January). I would def recommend.
It snowed and I got stuck on the driveway getting out of the hotel grounds so was late for work, BUT they came with a landrover and towed me to the main road . I was so grateful. There wasn't anything I didn't like. Just beware if it snows! Breakfast at 7:30 was too late , but it was free, so no real problem.
Steve, the night porter - what a lovely, helpful guy.
Stately home feel
Nice and quiet. The location is set in beautiful woodlands over looking the country side.
great value nice staff very helpful breakfast brilliant, superb vista
room because of size was on cold side
It would have been helpful if my dog could have stayed too. Most hotels allow this nowadays.
Very friendly staff, and parking outside the door is a great help. Like staying in a private house.
I could not open my window as it was over small flat roof. Maybe they could unstick top window?
Very basic- shame about facilities- would be better with a little gym or jacuzzi or a small real fire in bar area
Breakfast was very good price was excellent Staff were very helpful
The hotel was too cold the evening I arrived. The corridors, the bar and my room were uncomfortably cold. I had to use a electric blower heater, because the radiator did not work, which did warm my room up after about an hour. I had eaten in the bar it was to cold to stay there I had to go back to my room and the electric heater
The main receptionist was pleasant and helpful; we were greated with a smile. We had a problem with the room, which was sorted straight away, no trouble. Breakfast tasted ok, but make sure you get there on time, they take it away at 9:30!
Another member of the reception staff was a little abrupt when we spoke to her. Never saw a smile from any of the breakfast staff. Had to ask for tea and coffee as none offered. Breakfast finished at 9:30 on a Sunday -that's early; check out at 10 -so is that.
Location Gardens Architecture
Tired and dated internal fixtures and fittings Poor heating Several external functions on at same time making it noisy and busy for individual traveller residents.
The historic house is in lovely grounds with stunning views of the countryside.
The cheaper rooms are basic, but good value for the price.
Room was adequate, with a good shower and breakfast was fine. Really excellent value for the reduced midweek price. Lovely setting and grounds
Rather faded grandeur and seemed quite deserted
The grounds are breathtaking and very historical. Staff are friendly and helpful. Rooms are spacious.
Breakfast opening time is late I believe it should be at 6.30am. No floor map as to where your room or where everything is situated in the hotel. No signpost to hotel.
Friendly Staff,...the grounds were lovely, apart from the molehills ;) Food in the restaurant was very nice, cooked fresh and the service was second to none. 8/10
Small room, small dressing table incorporating Kettle, cups, telephone...advertising pamphlets and tucked away in a corner next to a wardrobe, only one chair to sit on. Room was very cold at night, radiator was barely warm....carpet getting a bit worn....very small flat screen TV. Breakfast was abysmal...we went down to eat at 8am....everything was cold, the bacon was like leather....sausages rock hard and the eggs were indescribable !! If I had known it belonged to the TUC I would not have booked this hotel....everywhere you looked or went union publicity was widespread. It is ideal for seminars and such like, but not for the weary traveller. I would not book this hotel again for leisure, but if ever I needed somewhere for a meeting this would be ideal. 4/10
the food , helpfullness of staff , the building and grounds
the labour party and left wing stuff a little over the top but it didnt spoil our stay
Location excellent as was size of the room and comfort of the bed
Very dark corridors with poor lighting near bedroom and outside my bedroom but I had a little torch
Well located near M1. Friendly, caring staff. Good breakfast. Nice quiet room. Am booked to return next week.
Lack of an armchair in the room. Found one but it was in the entrance hall. 1st bar meal prawn sandwich was fine, 2nd bar meal lasagne was cold and dried up, 3rd meal, 'fish finger butty' was nothing of the kind. Dish of olives, sundried tomatoes and bread would have been great.
The building,ground and staff. Food
