Location was really good as we were going to Sheffield arena. Breakfast was good, you could help yourself so you got as much as you wanted.
Room was on the ground floor (48) right near the cleaners cupboard so come 7.30 am there was a lot of noise. There was also a wedding and as we were on the ground floor we were near the venue room & could hear some music & noisy guests around 11.30pm.
Most staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms are cosy and had a good nights sleep.
Some staff did not seem as helpful or approachable.
I got married here and it was amazing, i wasnt rushed into anything, it was so nice, the staff are lovely and so is the venue, gotsome amazing wedding photos with the scenery.
the place and the friendly atmosphere. great breakfast
staff , location , room ,food ,view , bed , shower
Walls were thin and had a person next to my room snoring very loudly .
I was impressed with the standard of the refurbishment in all the public rooms.
I was only there for a short time so I did not have enough time for a thorough look round. The only slight hazard was the spiral staircase at the back of the hotel for older people you could do with having a banister on the opposite side. If you need to use the existing banister you are tight into the spiral so the stair runners are a bit small for your feet.
We had a lovely stay. The ladies on reception were very pleasant and helpful printing me off details of nearest church etc. We felt very comfortable and would recommend to friends and hope to come back.
It was so peaceful the fact you can open a window prefer that to air con. Had a lovely nights sleep and nothing was too much trouble for the staff.
The plates were too hot in the dining room for breakfast and I think there should be a warning I found myself telling people just in case.
loved the building and setting. Food was wonderful we had an evening meal it was lovely and reasonably priced. Breakfast was great and served in a much nicer room.
No hot water in the morning for shower. Bed was two singles zipped together. building needed refurbishment would then be a five star. Glasses in restaurant were really cheap not nice to drink out of
The location was amazing, and you couldn't fault it.
Our room, which we thought was a 'Garden Room' has frosted glass in the window as it had no view or light, in fact it was a bit like a cupboard under the stairs. The breakfast, which was plentiful, was cold. Also a wedding party on Saturday which I think we should have been made aware of as we may have not stayed. They also charge a full rate for a rubbish room.
good bar meal, very helpfull staff, excelent breakfast, and a very nice stroll through the gardens in the evening also wi fi easy to connect in room
a bit of noise from the bar area ( wedding reception ) and also noise from people going to next room late at night ( reception guests ? ) also bad reception on tv (channel 4 in particular as I wanted to watch a film )
the food was very good
The rooms and corridors etc are in great need of a major revamp.
Location is excellent with friendly helpful staff.
Fascinating house with surprising history (close links to the labour/trad union/co-operative movements) and beautiful grounds in a delightful little village
The service at breakfast was very friendly but slow....we'd just about given up waiting when our food arrived. Also, we were unlucky in that our delightful ground-floor room was close by the ladies loo and public rooms. There was a wedding reception and my husband had a sleepless night due to shouting and door-banging nearby. We hope to go back when it's quieter!
relaxed atmosphere, homely.
My stay again was great with an added welcome surprise upgrade on check in, will deffo be returning soon
Loved the house which was once the home of Lord Wharncliffe before being saved by Trade Unions whose pride in the place shines through and members have restored the High Status rooms to their former glory. This unusual background has given a lot of single rooms alongside the doubles, at very good prices and a really good buffet breakfast is included. Meals can be taken in the bar or restaurant and could be ordered very late in the evening. By only converting the original buildings - rather than adding on a modern annex, this place has a very different feel to many Country House hotels.
Sometimes the continual reminders of the unions got slightly wearing but I loved the newspaper cuttings - and both staff and guests betrayed no obvious political leaning.
Location, setting & historical/political connections. Artwork.
Noisy bed. Rubbish in garden (from an event, probably). Would like herbal beverages as well as tea/coffee.
Wall to wall weddings. Felt like an uninvited guest.
Fab stay in this lovely Hotel, breakfast was fantastic. Will deffo stay again
the breakfast esp. the veggie variety.
broadband was for namesake and non-existent
Friendly staff and excellent food. I will be coming back to stay on my next visit with work. Have already mentioned to colleagues.
The musky smell of the corridors.
Friendly staff, nice gardens, good food. Breakfast was excellent.
Gardens are lovely and mature. Staff were friendly. Breakfast was very good.
In need of an update. The decor is a bit shabby.
The staff could not have done anymore. We had a fantastic day that was well organised and ran very smoothly.
