Location Gardens Architecture
Tired and dated internal fixtures and fittings Poor heating Several external functions on at same time making it noisy and busy for individual traveller residents.
The historic house is in lovely grounds with stunning views of the countryside.
The cheaper rooms are basic, but good value for the price.
Room was adequate, with a good shower and breakfast was fine. Really excellent value for the reduced midweek price. Lovely setting and grounds
Rather faded grandeur and seemed quite deserted
The grounds are breathtaking and very historical. Staff are friendly and helpful. Rooms are spacious.
Breakfast opening time is late I believe it should be at 6.30am. No floor map as to where your room or where everything is situated in the hotel. No signpost to hotel.
Friendly Staff,...the grounds were lovely, apart from the molehills ;) Food in the restaurant was very nice, cooked fresh and the service was second to none. 8/10
Small room, small dressing table incorporating Kettle, cups, telephone...advertising pamphlets and tucked away in a corner next to a wardrobe, only one chair to sit on. Room was very cold at night, radiator was barely warm....carpet getting a bit worn....very small flat screen TV. Breakfast was abysmal...we went down to eat at 8am....everything was cold, the bacon was like leather....sausages rock hard and the eggs were indescribable !! If I had known it belonged to the TUC I would not have booked this hotel....everywhere you looked or went union publicity was widespread. It is ideal for seminars and such like, but not for the weary traveller. I would not book this hotel again for leisure, but if ever I needed somewhere for a meeting this would be ideal. 4/10
the food , helpfullness of staff , the building and grounds
the labour party and left wing stuff a little over the top but it didnt spoil our stay
Location excellent as was size of the room and comfort of the bed
Very dark corridors with poor lighting near bedroom and outside my bedroom but I had a little torch
Well located near M1. Friendly, caring staff. Good breakfast. Nice quiet room. Am booked to return next week.
Lack of an armchair in the room. Found one but it was in the entrance hall. 1st bar meal prawn sandwich was fine, 2nd bar meal lasagne was cold and dried up, 3rd meal, 'fish finger butty' was nothing of the kind. Dish of olives, sundried tomatoes and bread would have been great.
The building,ground and staff. Food
The food was great Bar The grounds around the hall The staff
Signal to the television was very poor in our room We was put above a wedding reception so music was played till late at night Waited 15 mins for extras for the breakfast
The staff were quite nice
The overall quality of my room was really low 1-2 star level
Wortley Hall is a fantastic building, the driveway in makes you feel as though you are entering somewhere special. The grounds are fantastic, so are the public rooms and staircase, although I expect high maintenance costs reflect the lack of good carpeting and decoration. It was worth a visit, the history did appeal to me.
Well, the decor and carpets are ready for an upgrade. The entrance and staircase has the potential to knock anybody of their feet, but lacks the wow factor, it's just needs refurbishing. Although I acknowledge the running costs of Wortley Hall must be high. Our room was small Tom Mann 3. however the mattress is desperate for renewing or they use straw, that's how bad it was. We didn't sleep, neither could we open the old sash window. I will return, the breakfast was good, the staff were good. At £94 I would have expected a better bed. Wortley Hall should have the same wow facto as Downtown Abbey. So it's down to management, you have a good product, just need some money spending on it.
Clean, comfortable and exploring this old building and grounds was very interesting.
every thing was good and we enjoyed are self
nothing it was all good
Although the Hall had been a Stately one it has been owned by the Trade Union movement for about 50 years and is still used as a conference centre, hotel, restaurant & has wedding receptions. Great food, location and lots of Trade Union memorabilia on the walls (the Morning Star is available at reception). Great grounds and lots of parking too!
I was there last Friday when they had a large wedding. Although it did not affect the bar or restaurant, they were a bit noisy outside.
Everything except ...... but still stay tyhere any time.
The quilt and the slippery sliding sheet on the mattress cover , overly heavy bed throw, Pillows fine, mattress v comfortable but yopu feel ease of cleaning and turnaround has compromised bedding quiality. Could have just been room 50 - twin for disabled.
Great setting, nice historical building and gardens; food was excellent, best cheese sandwich I ever had; adjacent to little village with nice pub
Wedding parties - noisy music after 8 pm on Sat and Sun. Would have been fairer if received e-mail about possibly not so quiet rural evenings... Did not feel like 4* except from outside: small rooms, small beds, view onto wall (ground floor Hague wing); hallways are bleak and in need of a paint job.
All the references to the trade union movement. The setting in the countryside but still close to the M1. Staff were all very friendly and helpful.
looking a bit tired. Cooked breakfast was a bit rubbery having been left out under the lights too long on the server.
Room was very comfortable, a little small but we were only there for one night so that was fine. The lighting was a little dark at first but the energy bulbs kicked in! The history of the hall is fascinating - we loved looking at all of the posters and dedications. Liked that the public rooms were open and we were able to look at the magnificent interiors. Great value for money too. Staff very friendly. Now that we have found this gem would definitely return!
Very nice views and gardens
Thin walls in the room, i could hear conversations in the ajoining room. Only bar food available in the evening. Generally the hotel needs to be refurbished.
Room specification much better than last time.
Breakfast starts at 7.30am - too late for me.
Excellent location. Impressive building - from the outside. Restaurant food very good. Bed room light with very good views of grounds.
Some areas of building very tired. Ensuite facility poor. Shower very small for reasonably sized adult. Difficult to get in and no room to use both arms to wash upper body. No tray to put shower gel etc. Shower volume/temperature control almost impossible. The control was very worn and so smooth that with wet hands it was very difficult to turn it off. My wife could not manage it.
Location Building Gardens Grounds
Bedrooms were awful, paper thin walls, very small, stained carpets, marks/dents in the thin plasterboard walls. Bedroom doors slammed loudly and normal conversations could be heard from all sides Corridors were tired, worn, battered and stale. Once you found it - the bar was old fashioned and cheap feeling. Very disappointing given the stunning exterior.
Excellent view from large bedroom. breakfast was nicely cooked and served hot.
Stayed the night whilst attending a wedding, had a fab evening, hotel is a lovely old building:)
