Not enough bar staff for amount of people at wedding
No breakfast included in the pricey room rate. Nonchalant staff. Slow booking in. Poor parking. Poor signage on main road. Broken fridge, suggests room was not properly checked throughout. Noisy children splashing in the pool so couldn't swim in peace. Impression that the hotel only wants to cater for large parties and conferences.
The food lesuire facilities the lovely staff and beautiful crowns made it a weekend to remember
We attended a wonderful wedding in an attractive setting. DJ was great (not sure if that was book by venue!)
Really difficult to book direct venue. Spent 22minutes on hold only to be told for wedding guest discount I would have to stay minimum of 3 nights! Booked easily via 3rd party booking.com. Made complaint about service prior to stay & was assured bottle of Prosecco would be left in room. It was not there & I needed proof of emails to receive it as no record of it on system. Eventually got a bottle of champagne but such an ordeal! Function rooms & exterior are lovely but rooms very dated. Service slow & inefficient. Only helpful member of staff was Krists - good on him to go out if his way to please guests. Did get an apology from manager & head office but such a pity it was late.
The hotel grounds are beautiful and the rooms are very clean and nicely decorated. The location; off the beaten track is peaceful and made for a pleasant stay.
Only one person on the bar at a wedding reception and he kept disappearing, in fact on a couple of occasions I had to go and find him to let him know that I and others needed serving. Breakfast was a bit of a let down, I found that the bacon was dried to a crisp, it was replaced, but with near raw bacon; also the supply of eggs ran out and it was 20 minutes before they were replaced.
Room and food and surroundings were lovely
There was a wedding going on at the same time & we were unable to park in the car park.
Lovely gardens; pretty chapel / library for wedding ceremonies; quiet; bath in room as well as shower; great breakfast
All good - nothing I didn't like
Bar was not well laid out and was cold.
Reception poor staffing, could not find booking. I got very annoyed especially, after calling to confirm our booking at lunch time.
Could not find booking even though we confirmed the booking at mid day and to say we will be late. When we did arrive at 9pm, it was a good job we had our booking printed off to show them. And the room was not ready! The wall paper in the room was peeling of the wall ahhh.
Lovely location and character building
Room too small and too hot
Beautiful grounds, friendly staff
Ordered room service breakfast- arrived 45mins late after 2 calls to reception & didn't have time to eat it because had to leave for work. In fairness they didn't charge me but it was frustrating. Room was very hot which was not expected in September
We stayed at Wotton House on a beautiful September day. The grounds are stunning set back from the main road peaceful and quiet. The staff are attentive but not overbearing. The rooms are clean and well equipped with lovely comfy beds.
The one thing that I didn't like was the buffet breakfast. The food was cold which was disappointing and it felt rushed not relaxing.
Grounds are amazing and the house is externally spectacular. The gardens are probably good for wedding photos etc it has an amazing garden to the rear
The rooms are small and soul-less and the decor in general is not in keeping with the house or its original character. Bar had no real atmosphere.
Lovely building well worth seeing.
Spa not in operation
Building and environs
Bedroom dull, tired and not as well equipped as most other major hotel chains
Location, grounds, the bar area all superb.
Window didn't stay open in bedroom. The restaurant was disappointing. Two large groups of conference delegates were separated by just a curtain, as was the breakfast area. Menu lacks originality. Had more of a feeling of a cafe than a first class restaurant.
restaurant and room service
Very friendly and helpful staff. Disco, entertainment at opposite end of building to the bedrooms so quiet nights! Excellent meals. Lovely grounds.
Lack of accessories in room. No remote for the TV. Door lock loose and not working properly. No mobile phone signal.
Grounds and surrounding area beautiful. Reception and bar staff very helpful and polite.
Interior of hotel looks a little tired, needs bringing up to date. Televisions in bedroom very much out of date. Being told what time to eat breakfast as wedding guests obviously have priority. Asking for fresh tea during breadfast and being told the tea in the teapot was still hot why did we need fresh tea.
Lovely building and setting, reasonable dinner
Unnecessarily slow check in and out, slow bar service, my dinner booking had not been recorded, cold shower in a bathroom which flooded with the shower water.
Location, facilities, staff, grounds.
Nothing really but some areas are looking a little tired and the outside of windows need a coat of paint.
Charming building and garden Quiet Surroundings
Bathrooms need refurbishment Restaurant should be warmer
The property is set on expansive grounds , and the managers/operators have done well to maintain the ambience of an era of greatness and prosperity, in the presentations of the gardens and a huge country residence. Space is the key, in a beautiful unruffled setting. It is quite apart from the density, volume, and intensity of modern living, and hard nosed commercial aspects. The children in our extended family group gained huge satisfaction building a little house with wooden blocks under a spreading sycamore tree in the grounds, during our family reunion meal: something they would never get to enjoy at a contrived plastic play park at McDonalds !! Wotton House is not like the Savoy which strives to offer the best of the best of the best , at a price, because people feel they are worth it. It's about experiencing a Noble England from a special place in history, and feeling better for it.
My room which was obtained with substantial reduction, could have been cooler, during midsummer nights. Management were informed, and I'm sure they'll act on my advice.
Lovely setting Good quiet nights sleep Good gym facilities Lovely pool Gym changing rooms spotless
Wi Fi password changed daily. Why have a password at all? No fear of it being used by any nearby residences as they are none! Usual gripe about the meagre number of milk portions left in room. Spa facilities close by 8pm For over £100 for a Sunday night stay, breakfast should have been included.
