Score from 983 reviews Very good
In a contemporary glass-fronted building, this 4-star hotel is a 1-minute walk from the cobbled High Street of Guildford.
Score from 513 reviews Excellent
Just 25 miles from London and 20 minutes from Heathrow lies a resort ranked as "one of the best luxury family hotels"- The Times.

A 17th-century village pub, The Plough Inn in Coldharbour enjoys a pretty location in the Surrey Hills, around 4 miles from Dorking.
Score from 161 reviews Very good
General hotel facilities are good, food is excellent
The bedrooms are dated and in need of refurbishment. It's not a 4 star hotel by any means
The hotel is reasonably priced and stunning. The location was convenient for us
The receptionist couldn't find the booking. Then he didn't know we'd requested an upgrade for the extra price. The room he gave us was already occupied. The next room he gave us was absolutely tiny and so squashy that it was hard to get to the bed (avoid room 305) . Eventually we got a standard room on the ground floor which was lovely but beware that the wall are very thin!!
Service not up to it
The lovely setting, lovely bedroom good breakfast and pleasant staff.
The appalling christmas dinner. We booked for christmas eve to boxing day and treating ourselves to a lovely xmas dinner. I booked in advanced by email and my husband rang in advance to check. Only to be told there is no booking for us. we were sat by the fire exit, the food was of a very low quality and we felt we should leave with in one hour. At the beginning of the session we were offered a glass of champagne, only to be told straight away that we were only allowed one each in strong tones. It was embarrasing. Although we were given a discount we were sorely dissappointed as it was Christmas dinner not just a sunday roast.
Room and Sport Facilities and House all excellent
The meal was at the back of the bar and was a very limited menu. It was in effect a bar meal. The cooked breakfast was cold. We would return but without food.
Very comfortable bed, lovely grounds, majority of staff were very friendly, good choice at breakfast, really powerful shower
We were unable to check in until 3.30pm, an hour and a half after we should have. The first receptionist we spoke to was quite unapologetic about this and said no one would even be manning reception until 2.30pm. We do understand though that a wedding was taking place that day so I'm sure staff were very busy, and the next receptionist was lovely.
The building is stunning Staff were very friendly
Needing a pound coin for the swimming pool locker
Location, Staff were very friendly and helpful. Staffed during New Year and the arrangement was very well executed. For the size of the event, we were very pleased that all the meals were delivered well.
The hotel building and grounds were beautiful and the Denbies wine tour that was part or our package was fantastic. Shame about the hotel service which was dire.
It was new years day the pool and leisure facilities were shut, none of the bars or restaurants were open until 8pm we checked in at 2 and I asked if we could get a drink the guy on reception told us to make tea in our room. For a four star hotel the service we received in the 2 days we stayed was not good enough the reception staff were ill infomed and in the first day didn't seem to care that we were unhappy with the service. There was no hotel information in the room not even the basics such as when and where breakfast is available.Dialling for reception in our room no one answered. During our stay we felt like second class citizens given an experienced skeleton staff to look after us. It was only on the second day that they took our complaints seriously. The room was also nothing like the one in the website. Very very disappointing!
Location, house and grounds
Poor old-style TV, remote didn't work. No in-room hotel guide. Breakfast barely warm. Mid-morning coffee not available. Surfaces dusty. Only 1 armchair when clearly room for 2 (in a room designed for 2).
Excellent welcoming staff and incredible grounds/ building, very relaxing
Would have liked a more modern room for the money we paid
The building inside & out, stunning decor, huge range of fantastic facilities, open fires, superb views, the "old world charm" of the place & it's setting. Food was OK but breakfast bacon was inedible
The staff did what was required but it always took too much time. The total lack of soundproofing in the bedrooms was a huge disappointment. We heard EVERY sound that was made in the toilet of the adjoining room.
The venue was excellent and in a beautiful setting, the staff were very friendly and efficient. We would have liked more time to have taken advantage of the facilities, maybe next time.
Although the breakfast choices were excellent the 'hot' food was not very warm and went cold very quickly.
Beautiful setting & grounds. Very friendly staff.
Don't stay there when there are big parties going on. We had to go out for dinner because they were hosting 3 Christmas parties & they couldn't cater for us. Bathroom was freezing cold. Small rooms but nicely decorated.
Really gorgeous building, beautifully decorated for Christmas. Lovely pool and fitness centre, a real joy.
double bed very small with "roll together matress"
Lovely building and surroundings and the staff were ok.
Bedroom in need of some serious updating, small television, stained trouser press, bathroom average, nothing in mini bar at all. Shower very old with limescale. Breakfast was inadequate for the price.
The grounds & look of hotel fantastic.
what didn't we like? The room was small and could do with updating. t states on the website it has been refurbished BUT our room had obviously been left out. Bad TV (so out of date and not many channels considering it stated it had certain TV channels & radio stations), ripped wallpaper, mattress dipped in the middle felt like partner & I just roller into each other. The staff in the bar and restaurant were not very attentive especially as it was not busy. In my opinion it did not represent very good value for money. Waiter smelling of cigarettes whilst serving our food, big put off. Not one tourist sign in the area to let you know direction to hotel, we even got lost using a Tom Tom. BIGGEST let down............. not one but two visitors in our room at night. Nothing done to help celebrate our anniversary i.e. bottle of champagne or chocolates in room etc etc. Stains on pillow. Would I go back there, don't think I would which is such a shame as the grounds are lovely. Spent £1,000,000 making it eco friendly, maybe they should have used some of that money to update the room we were in. We had a far better room / stay in a Premier Inn in Bournemouth Town Centre.......
I really liked the setting and history of the building. The pool, sauna and jacuzzi was very nice and clean. The grounds and surrounding area were excellent for walking and exploring.
The room was small and could do with updating. The staff in the bar and restaurant were not very attentive especially as it was not busy, if it was the waiting would become unbearable. In my opinion it did not represent very good value for money.
Friendly restaurant staff
The bed was rather too soft and a little too small for two people - sagging in the middle (the bed). Maybe the beds need replacing with something firmer and less tired.
The property and staff are superb
The hotel is in a very quiet setting and the traffic in and out of Dorking is busy when trying to work.
Not enough bar staff for amount of people at wedding
No breakfast included in the pricey room rate. Nonchalant staff. Slow booking in. Poor parking. Poor signage on main road. Broken fridge, suggests room was not properly checked throughout. Noisy children splashing in the pool so couldn't swim in peace. Impression that the hotel only wants to cater for large parties and conferences.
The food lesuire facilities the lovely staff and beautiful crowns made it a weekend to remember
We attended a wonderful wedding in an attractive setting. DJ was great (not sure if that was book by venue!)
Really difficult to book direct venue. Spent 22minutes on hold only to be told for wedding guest discount I would have to stay minimum of 3 nights! Booked easily via 3rd party booking.com. Made complaint about service prior to stay & was assured bottle of Prosecco would be left in room. It was not there & I needed proof of emails to receive it as no record of it on system. Eventually got a bottle of champagne but such an ordeal! Function rooms & exterior are lovely but rooms very dated. Service slow & inefficient. Only helpful member of staff was Krists - good on him to go out if his way to please guests. Did get an apology from manager & head office but such a pity it was late.
