Charming building and garden Quiet Surroundings
Bathrooms need refurbishment Restaurant should be warmer
The property is set on expansive grounds , and the managers/operators have done well to maintain the ambience of an era of greatness and prosperity, in the presentations of the gardens and a huge country residence. Space is the key, in a beautiful unruffled setting. It is quite apart from the density, volume, and intensity of modern living, and hard nosed commercial aspects. The children in our extended family group gained huge satisfaction building a little house with wooden blocks under a spreading sycamore tree in the grounds, during our family reunion meal: something they would never get to enjoy at a contrived plastic play park at McDonalds !! Wotton House is not like the Savoy which strives to offer the best of the best of the best , at a price, because people feel they are worth it. It's about experiencing a Noble England from a special place in history, and feeling better for it.
My room which was obtained with substantial reduction, could have been cooler, during midsummer nights. Management were informed, and I'm sure they'll act on my advice.
The location is great for a walk towards leith hill and lunch at the Stephen Langton pub. It's also a short drive to Shere which is nice. Also, the hotel looks the part from the outside and there are nice grounds so pleasant to sit outside for afternoon tea.
The staff didn't seem that attentive to our needs. We arrived early for check in and we were turned away, no offer to store our bags or apologising for the inconvenience. Room 356 that we were allocated was next to what I assume is a boiler as the wall was incredibly hot and the room far too warm even with the window open. The massive air con unit that had obviously been wheeled in to cater for this didn't work, and when mentioned to the staff on the desk there was no effort made to rectify. Also, out breakfast was not delivered to our room despite filling out the required form, so we ended up checking out and eating elsewhere which was disappointing. Finally, the restaurant was pretty lifeless and drab, we took one look and went to the pub up the road instead.
Loved the grounds...stunning.
The room was a sauna, no air con. Old tv's, crack in the bath, could not open window, spa facilities are NOT relaxing.
Building and environment clean and comfortable
No interaction with breakfast staff. Spa being refurbished
Location Nice Setting Helpful Staff
No Air Con Hot Room
Attentiveness of all staff. All requests given good responses Ease for walking everywhere, no hidden hazards, aided by design of floor coverings.
standard of restaurant food not to the standard of hotel, but still a very fair standard. Bar snacks ver good.
Room a but on the small side, no air con, we had to go out and buy a fan!!! Staff lovely.
Rooms to hot. Breakfast not great as it was self service. Would have expected table service for the price we paid.
We liked it all. We only had 1 night stay which was not long enough to make the most of the facilities. We intend to visit again for longer.
The gardens are lovely The building it self is very lovely
NO air conditioning: We spent two nights in stifling heat - not even a fan was provided. Not enough staff around Had to go looking for someone to get a coffee from, downstairs A number of rooms laid out as set pieces - but if you sat in them - for a coffee etc - there was no staff Only 2 bar staff on a Saturday night with a wedding - we gave up trying to buy a drink Restaurant more like a refractory - huge tables assume the hotel likes big parties - perhaps they need a separate dinning facility for those of us who thought we were having a weekend to chill out and some peace and quiet
Stunning Country House and Grounds
We were downgraded as there was limited availability.
Bathroom a bit outdated, repairs not 100%.
A beautiful historic house set in a lovely grounds. The staff were very friendly and polite.
Disappointed with the menu choice, decided to eat in a local pub which served excellent local produce. The room that we stayed in was a superior room, but was in fact very standard compared to other hotels we have stayed in costing a lot less. The sound proofing between the rooms was poor.
My wife and I where ther for how ruby wedding anniversary. Great location superb garden's nice room's good food very friendly staff great stay.
- Grounds - Food
- Heat of the room - Dated room facilities - Bar prices
Very friendly, professional and helpful staff. Very pleased with the location and the hotel itself. Stunning property with extensive grounds and surprisingly inexpensive. Would recommend to anyone visiting the area.
The building, grounds and gardens were superb. Friendly staff, feeling of luxury
TV's were too small, internet speed not brilliant
Location and facilities.
Had to ask for top up water, tea, sugar. Room not cleaned til very late on 1 of the 5 days I stayed. Noisy group along my corridor. Hotel seemed more interested in corporate bookings than the individual business person.
Staff at reception were very polite and helpful
Bed was too soft, we kept rolling into the middle. Evening meal was bland and not good value for money. For example we had steak and ale pie which we expected to be homemade, instead it was bought in.
Shower in room didn't work
beautiful grounds and a restaurant with reasonable prices inc the wine
no mobile phone signal no air conditioning for business traveler breakfast at 0600 would be useful
Fabulous building, gardens, setting.
My only grievance was that my room was too warm.
The hotel is located rurally within its own parkland, yet within easy travel time of Dorking and Guildford. The facilities are excellent; superb restaurant, great bar, brilliant breakfast buffet, quiet rooms - what more could you ask for??
