This small but perfectly formed boutique hotel dates from 1600. It has an award-winning cocktail lounge and stylish, individual bedrooms with free Wi-Fi. Several restaurants are within a 3-minute...

Staff, location, history, building
Gym facilities desperately need updating or servicing. Didn't expect a full gym but the machines do need replacing.
Beautiful gardens and building, staff pleasant but a smile never hurt anyone! The kids loved the indoor pool. Never ate in hotel as restaurant full which was a pity so book in advance as the menu looked good. We stayed in the courtyard buildings, very nice rooms and facilities, comfortable, downside was someone had a yapping dog downstairs (not sure if permitted) which kept my daughter awake. Close proximity o Warwick and a couple of good eating pubs en route!
The food was excellent, particularly the salmon starter. The staff at reception were particularly helpful and facilitated an online connection for us. The garden and grounds are particularly beautiful and well-maintained.
We ate in our room, but felt that a table should have been supplied for this purpose.
My partner and I loved the safari themed bedroom! We were impressed how tidy and clean it was and we were pleased with the bathroom including both large bath and shower. The food we ate was delicious. We've never eaten such lovely food. We also had a lot of fun in the pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. The gardens and old church ruin on the grounds was lovely and we enjoyed walks around. Just what we needed to relax.
It would have been handy to be able to access WiFi from the bedroom, however staff did explain to us that it was due to the area and difficulty receiving signal. Otherwise, nothing :-)
The food wasn't great neither were the staff !
Beautiful location. Pretty buildings.
The bedrooms. Also there was no restaurant service the day we arrived due to a wedding reception but we had not been notified about this earlier.
Beautiful surroundings in a historical setting.
Attempts at saving money. No soap or shampoo in the room, no Wi Fi in the rooms, only in the bar.
Value for money with polite friendly staff superb grounds and setting. Food was also excellent along with the service. Certain to visit again.
No real negatives
character and history of building, lovely refurbished room and helpful staff
extremely poor gym facilities - I treadmill (wire cut), I exercise bike, I stepper and a wooden rowing machine (which looked in keeping with the old style of building) and no free weights, bench or anything else - shame
You were made to feel special. Room was very comfortable.
I would have been nice to have a window that had a view, rather than just another part of the roof. But what it lacked in scenery it made up for in character.
The friendly atmosphere.. Shabby chic.. Very comfortable.
We were unable to open our bedroom window and we were a little too warm!
character of building, helpful staff. wonderful location, would visit again.
In the restaurant the starter was excellent but the main not so good
We loved everything, so peaceful and dinner was lovely. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and well looked after in an overal very romantic setting
Unfortunately the only massive let down was breakfast, far too expensive for what was being offered. No beans, powered eggs and cold offerings
Loved the location, long drive and sitting outside on the sun terrace. Views from the building were amazing and most pleasant. Food was fab - faultless and waiter/waitress service excellent! :-)
Bar service was slow and they didn't know how to make Pimms! A fair amount of dust (thick dust) in bedroom and around the building on sides (Bar lounge area esp) This didn't spoil our stay, just expected more as rates are at the higher end of the market.
The place is beautiful and we would have loved to be there longer to explore the grounds. Food was good, nice lounge and bar.
WiFi only down in the lounge area.
You are not aloud to eat bar food in the bar after 5.30pm
Spectacular building and surroundings, very quiet, room was clean and tidy, breakfast was excellent.
some of the decor and furniture needed a little updating but it's a very old house so I appreciate it must be a very difficult task.
The room was cold, with a draft coming through the windows, although to be fair it was blowing a gale outside. When we notified reception and the hotel installed a warm air heater, which resolved that problem. The bed was large and very comfortable. Impressive wooden staircase with stained glass window. For dessert we had panacotta with pineapple puree served with a glass of Malibu and it was heavenly. Not a bad swimming pool, and there was a sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi around the pool we could use. Nice church (called a cathedral for some reason). Did not know until then that the original Elizabethan house had been in the family of Sir Christopher Wren for generations (all the sons seem to have been called Christopher, which caused confusion with the dates). In 1861 the new owner demolished the original house and built the current one, which we thought was shame.
Wall mounted hairdryer was ineffective. Only one bath towel provided. Lift was very small - after one use we used the staircase. I had surf and turf for main, but the fillet steak had gristle in it, one side had been overcooked and the pepper sauce was very runny. We both went for the roasted vegetables and the parsnips were badly underdone and inedible. We ordered liqueurs with out coffee after the meal and they never arrived. There was a close-up magic show on during dinner and it was rather sad. The magician was a bit shabby and looked ill. In the bar later the night shift barman came on and played the piano. It was excruciatingly bad. There was a wall-mounted tv, but it was not very big and mounted in a corner a long way from the bed. Clock radio with a CD player - who has CDs these days? Nowhere to plug in my ipod. No wi-fi in the room unless you went for dial-up, which is not really practical for a tablet or smartphone. Wi-Fi in the public areas was fair reception. The 'gym' only contained a few cardio machines, and no weights at all. Sauna was not working. No locks on the 'lockers' in the changing rooms. There was a huge marquee which is used for weddings. The outside is covered in mildew and needs a good clean.
The location of the hotel in beautiful grounds and the hotel building had lovely features. Attentive and friendly staff.
Really noisy floorboards above our room which kept us awake. Poor hair dryer in the bathroom.
Fantastic stay all round !
Location & grounds Food Service
Tatty bathroom - mould on the radiator/towel rail Noise - boiler/generator noise outside our room in the early hours View - our room looked out onto a courtyard full of gas canisters & other debris
Beautiful hotel with all the old elements in tact. Looks like a museum!
The staff were very friendly and accommodating, super helpful as we were traveling with a young baby. Stuart and Tom were particularly helpful to us during our stay. The location itself is beautiful and the rooms were very comfortable.
WiFi internet only available in some public areas, a little inconvenient. It was also tough to find the location, had to stop and ask for directions nearby (and the person who gave directions says it happens all the time)
House and grounds were fabulous. Staff and food were also very good.
There were wedding parties on both the Friday and Saturday of our visit and our room in the Courtyard was pretty noisy. The music did stop at midnight but some of the guests didn't!. Wish we had been warned and maybe offered a room in the main house as this would have been quieter - We would have happily paid the difference. Enjoyed our stay and would recommend to others with the proviso that they check on bookings for weddings or other parties!
Nearly everything was superb.Staff were excellent and food delicious.Beautiful building and grounds. All very clean.
Our room was a little tired and the shower cubicle could do with re-grouting in places.
