If you want a Premier Inn then this is not the hotel for you, but if you like country parks, style, antiques and a sense of history you will be very happy here. It is quirky, but the beds are comfortable, the bathrooms modern and food good (but quite expensive). The woodland park and old buildings are beautiful and isolated
Georgeous old building full of character. Staff brilliant. Allowed us to have tosties in front of roaring fire in bar area. With kids this was essential and fun. Would recommend to anyone with kids ( ours 6 and 11)
Very good price Very comfortable bed Very helpful staff
Gym was basic
Location, Building and the grounds.
The shower room was mouldy and the general décor needs a lot of updating. Advertised as WIFI in rooms but it wasn't available in Bedrooms and phone signal virtually non existent.
Location and building
Noise from generator in early hours of morning :-/
We decided to book Wroxhall Abbey based on it having the best reviews for our price point of £99 per night. It had a comfy bed, was easy to find and located nicely in a countrified area but not far from motorways and local towns etc. The hotel is a beautiful old mansion house with estate of houses with very grand grounds, driveway, and of course classic large rooms, ornate decoration, high ceilings etc. The food quality is FANTASTIC.
It is important to make it clear that when asked this question 'What didn't you like" that some of these points are no failing from the hotel exactly, but are just that the experience didn't match up to what we expected or hoped for. Maybe some of these things are what others love about it. I respect this. For energy saving reasons, the hotel says it installed automatic light sensors in pretty much every corridor, the spa etc. The result of this is that the whole hotel comes across as instantly spooky. We decided to go have a look at the spa very soon after checking in, and rather than exploring the hotel being warm and welcoming, it actually felt like we were snooping where we shouldn't. Coupled with the old mansion decor it felt more like a ghost hunt, going on and on into pitch black rooms that lit slowly as we entered them. This was the same as we explored other areas of the hotel. I understand why they did it, but it creeped us out. "Have we missed a 'closed' sign by mistake?" The room itself was nice enough, comfy bed, good shower, but the decor was er… again just a bit strange. The furniture was mostly cheap dark wood, some of the wallpaper was rich maroons that fit the theme, then there was some Japanese looking shiny geisha portraits on the wall facing the bed. These just don't fit the country manor appeal and showed little thought put into the decor - nothing wrong with any of it again, but just a feel that was not quite loved. The furniture looked very much like charity shop seconds rather than anything old and regal. The hotel had placed us in the courts area rather than main building. No problem, but a shame that they put us in an area where on the next morning there was an event in the function hall at the courts. So I was woken up around 10am on my birthday by loud chatter and cars dropping people next to my room for at least an hour.
Service is so poor, facilities is poor, Room is so cold heating doesnt warm up just making terrible noise. Reported issues to the receptionist she doesnt have an idea about what to do. No robes to use in the bathroom. Meals was rubbish had to travel to warwick town for proper meal.
The staff were superb. The room was fabulous and probably the most comfortable bed in any hotel I have stayed in. The food was great
Nice building and nice gardens.
The staff were friendly and helpful at this hotel but sadly we were very disappointed with the cleanliness and poor condition of the room. We booked a Superior Mansion Double at 139 per night and wanted to check out immediately. The bathroom needs urgent update. We did not used the shower or the bathtub as they were not clean properly. The AC was noisy. There were 2 single duvets inside of a double duvet cover - incommode when turning during your sleep. I could continue but I do not want to remember that night stay.
Stunning setting, excellent food and staff, was disappointed with room but was quickly offered an alternative. Would stay again
Staff very friendly and helpful. Nice historic building and grounds to explore. Good evening meal choices. Pool quiet.
Poor continental breakfast choices. Small pool.
really nice lounges and breakfast room, plus nice grounds
single room in the annex seemed small and cold on arrival, though it did soon warm up.
Gorgeous setting, charming old buildings. Spacious enough not to feel crowded by other guests. Meals were very good.
Beautifully furnished great views lovely restaurant
No useable curtains in room. Management knew curtains would not close but could not care less and rented out the room 60 anyway. Avoid Room 60! Swimming pool area in disrepair with sauna out of order and steam room very tepid
General standard tired in need of real investment
we stayed on a Saturday night whenthey held a reception and a small hen party. Anyone not in these parties was offered only a limited menu and not the standard of fare offered on their website served by overwhelmed staff in a room layed out in avercrowded regimental way.;more McDonalds thanRitz.Help yourself buffet breakfast no better with the food trolleys badly sited. We booked a superior room. The room we received was in the roof eaves with no view other than roof tiles, not what you expect in a country house hotel. we were left one hand towel and one barh towel for two. Whoever runs this country house hotel clearly hasn't thought it through. Employing some flient English speaking staff might help.
The Food, SOME of the staff were polite and helpful , grounds were nice, exterior of the building lovely,
No body answering the reception phone or room service after several attempts with no answer had to go down twice after waiting 30 mins for a bottle of wine !!! Room was very dusty ..could write in it ..shower screen had lots of limescale on it ..4 poster bed looked broken at the top .. the pool was really cold i thought maybe it was just one of those things so i asked another guest who said it was the same the day before to ... at dinner we were served by a polish lady she seemed nice enough but her english was bare minimum .we were asked if we wanted to see a desert menu we nodded and said yes pls the lady went away and didn't come back with the menu !!! after 20 mins we asked someone else it was brought to us straight away ..we asked for an irish coffee we waited 30 mins!!! for it to come in a wine glass half full with not an ounce of an alcohol taste to it !!! We payed the food bill there and then ..The next day during check out we were given a bill of over£ 170 ish ( it was suppose to be £15 )!!!!! I payed for the room on arrival and the food bill i payed straight away after eating ... This was not taken off and I had to produce receipts as proof ..Some of the interior needs a revamp it just looks like expense has definatly been spared with staff and some of the interior of the building !!! Dissapointed :(
Staff, location, history, building
Gym facilities desperately need updating or servicing. Didn't expect a full gym but the machines do need replacing.
Beautiful gardens and building, staff pleasant but a smile never hurt anyone! The kids loved the indoor pool. Never ate in hotel as restaurant full which was a pity so book in advance as the menu looked good. We stayed in the courtyard buildings, very nice rooms and facilities, comfortable, downside was someone had a yapping dog downstairs (not sure if permitted) which kept my daughter awake. Close proximity o Warwick and a couple of good eating pubs en route!
The food was excellent, particularly the salmon starter. The staff at reception were particularly helpful and facilitated an online connection for us. The garden and grounds are particularly beautiful and well-maintained.
We ate in our room, but felt that a table should have been supplied for this purpose.
My partner and I loved the safari themed bedroom! We were impressed how tidy and clean it was and we were pleased with the bathroom including both large bath and shower. The food we ate was delicious. We've never eaten such lovely food. We also had a lot of fun in the pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. The gardens and old church ruin on the grounds was lovely and we enjoyed walks around. Just what we needed to relax.
It would have been handy to be able to access WiFi from the bedroom, however staff did explain to us that it was due to the area and difficulty receiving signal. Otherwise, nothing :-)
The food wasn't great neither were the staff !
Beautiful location. Pretty buildings.
The bedrooms. Also there was no restaurant service the day we arrived due to a wedding reception but we had not been notified about this earlier.
Beautiful surroundings in a historical setting.
Attempts at saving money. No soap or shampoo in the room, no Wi Fi in the rooms, only in the bar.
Value for money with polite friendly staff superb grounds and setting. Food was also excellent along with the service. Certain to visit again.
No real negatives
