Ideally placed between the historic towns of Monmouthshire and Chepstow. Tintern is in the heart of the Wye Valley, and all of the attractions it has to offer. The poet Wordsworth described Wye as the most romantic valley in Wales. Little has changed since he penned those lines and the Wye river still wends its way by Tintern, its abbey and forest. The hotel dates back to 1835 when it was a small alehouse known as The Carpenters Arms. In 1909 the building was renamed and extended to its current form. Both the bar and restaurant are open to non-residents and is popular with locals and tourists alike. Using fresh local produce, we aim to provide a range of food to suite your individual tastes - from bar snacks to meals from the menu. Special dietary requirements are catered for on request. With a total of nine en suite rooms the owners, Sue and Barry Cooke, pride themselves on being available to give individual attention to their guests to ensure that their stay is as relaxing and enjoyable as it can possibly be. The bathroom in our room was very tired, bath panel coming off, rubber slip mat very grubby looking wouldn't want to stand on it and paint work needs repainting. Bedding was old and dirty marks on covers. Talcum powder on the bathroom floor from previous guests. Not enough tea and milk in room for 3 adults. Cobwebs on the ceiling.

Barry and Sue Cooke were very welcoming and helpful. The room was comfortable and clean. We ate at the hotel, breakfast was plentiful and freshly cooked. The menu for the evening meal was varied using local produce and we enjoyed our choices. Excellent value for money.

We arrived early and was met by the owner of the hotel. A very pleasant man who was also running the bar when we arrived. We were a party of eight and each room was very comfortable, clean and well presented. We had an evening meal at the Wye Valley on our first night which was great. The food was well presented, hot and tasty. Breakfast the next morning was also hot and tasty. Some went for the Wye Valley Full Breakfast which was served using local produce (as were all the meals), this set us up for the day ahead. We would recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a reasonably priced, comfortable place to stay in this area. Conveniently situated for Chepstow and Monmouth. I cannot think of anything about this hotel we did not like.

Clean, comfortable, warm, quiet, good shower and lots of hot water. Good breakfast freshly cooked. Didn't like having to wait 10 minutes for someone to appear at reception, despite ringing bell. Ditto, when it came to checking out.

Barry and Sue were very friendly, and informative hosts, and all staff friendly and helpful. Our rooms were very clean and comfortable. Food was excellent to such an extent that we had all of our meals at the hotel. The location was ideal for walking and visiting places of interest. We thought the whole experience was great value for money, and we will definitely be going back again.

We loved the location of the hotel in the beautiful Wye Valley just around the corner from Tintern Abbey which should be on everyone's must- see list. It's a very comfortable and welcoming hotel, with a great dinner menu and a cosy bar area. A grat place from which to reach the attractions of southern Wales and south-west England.

The Hotel was in just the right location for our break, we received a very nice welcome and introduction to what the hotel had to offer. The room was clean light and airy and well furnished. We planned to take breakfast and eat out the for the rest of our stay, but in the end returned every night for the evening meals which very satisfying. The bathing arrangements were our only disappointment, the bath being very difficult to get into and out. The shower being from another age, it really was almost unusable. We were a little disturbed by the traffic just outside our window, but the room was on the front of the hotel.

We booked quite late for a " spur of the moment short break" to this lovely part of South Wales and it turned out to be a great decision in all respects. We had a warm and friendly welcome, the twin room was excellent and the food was first class. We will certainly be returning to Tintern and the Wye Valley Hotel in the furure.
