We are a 'mature' couple whose chief concern when looking for accommodation is whether it is "pet friendly". We hardly go anywhere without our beloved dog, Buddy. We met up with family members who also took their dog. Well, when they say they are "pet friendly" the Wyndham Arms is not just saying it, they really mean it. Our pets were welcome in any part of the hotel apart from the restaurant, which is totally acceptable. We ate our meals in the bar and the dogs were always welcome, even given a plate of sausages for breakfast from Charlie the manager who went above and beyond to make us all feel very welcome. The food is excellent, not your usual run of the mill pub fayre, but imaginative, good wholesome food made with locally sourced produce. We stayed in the annex. It was clean, comfortable and was everything we required for a few days away. There is plenty to do and see in the Forest of Dean and we will definitely be returning this year. I hate to complain because we had such a great time but if I were to find one thing it would be the blankets. I would prefer to see a duvet.

Characterful country hotel, that was warm & welcoming. Also loved the pig ornaments & comfy sofas. Just felt the single room was a bit of a cupboard, you could hear through the walls, even peoples conversations. Also the tariff was high for what it was.

I liked the fact that I could stay with my extended family for a wedding. Generally very friendly staff, easy check in and check out. Good breakfast. My daughter complained that her room was cold. My husband found his mattress uncomfortable. The gentelman who did our check seemed alittle terse, but may be just tired.

Excellent location for purpose of our visit to wedding at Clearwell Castle. Charming hotel Annex rooms in which we stayed could have been a little more comfortable (Bed) and bathrooms updating. Towels in short supply, one bath towel is all we had for 2 adults showering and washing

It was very convenient for the wedding we attended at the castle just up the road. Although we didn't eat there in the evening we found the breakfast very good. The rooms were very quiet, just right for a very relaxing stay. May consider this venue again when we just want to get away for a few days from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

We were attending a wedding at the castle and decided to stay two night. This was an ideal venue as we were in walking distance of the venue. My daughters stayed in the annex which was large and comfortable. I stayed in a single room in the main building We had an excellent meal the first night; all local produce used and sources were all identified. Breakfast again could not be faulted; all freshly prepared to order.Staff very friendly and accommodating. The single room was up a winding set of uneven stairs which some people might have difficulty accessing.

We stayed in this hotel for a wedding. The bar and dining room staff were excellent. A very nice hot buffet meal was provided for the evening meal and we enjoyed a wonderful breakfast cooked to perfection. We would have liked help with our cases as we were on the first floor of the annex. Our bed was uncomfortable due to broken springs poking up both sides just where you lie. There is also a very rusty bin in the bathroom. We spent the evening in the bar as part of family party. The bar had no real ales! only bottled beer a shortage of liquers. Very badly stocked all round for a pub.

The location to Clearwell castle where we were attending a evening wedding reception, very convenient.Excellent breakfast good quality food, comfortable room in a pretty village. There was nowhere to have food in the village during the afternoon. We were advised to go into Coleford but the choice of places to eat there were poor.We ended up going to Symonds Yat east which was a fair distance from the hotel.Just felt that there could have been something within walking distance or indeed at the hotel/pub itself.

“I really liked the general atmosphere. Check in was a breeze and friendly. Arrived early but still allowed to check in to my room. Place simply has class. Never heard of the village/town before but maybe that is a good thing. I get the impression this is a little gem of a place which doesn't need to be over-advertised. If I ever get the chance to stay again in the area, there's no other place I'd consider than the Tudor Farmhouse. I don't work for the hotel in case your wondering but happy to accept bribes! Seriously - top stuff.” Richard, Middlewich |
