breakfast was OK. No problem with having dogs in the room or public rooms
Very cramped room. Poor bedding. Shared bathroom and tea and coffee making facilities. Didn't look or feel clean. Glad we only stayed one night
The building had oodles of character and history, set in a beautiful village, convenient for walkers.
En-suite would have been perfect. Bacon was rather salty and would have preferred poached eggs at breakfast.
Staff consideration and the cleanliness and comfort of the
Going home but the breakfast was good even thou I found a hair in it .
The hair in my breakfast the smell of the room the del in the night parked outside our room for about half hour the worst bit was the dirty bath and facilities wanted to check out as soon as I got there
Very friendly owner and staff. Good food. Good beds. Atmosphere of the past. Dog friendly. Ideally situated in old picturesque village. Many beautiful walks are possible from the inn,
Stairs to the rooms are not easy to climb.
location quirky nature of inn friendly owner
lack of en-suite quality of bedding limited choice menu
The breakfast was fine, additional milk and toast was forth coming on top of a substantial sausage, bacon, tomato, mushrooms & scrambled egg. The landlady was obliging and pleasant. £70 per room per night was ok in view of the location, had the standards been up graded we would have expected to pay more. Fortunately we only needed one night. I only recommend this taking cost and location into consideration!
Didn't like the dated and badly appointed bedroom; the over basin light didn't work, I tried changing the bulb but still dud! Our bathroom was basic and along the corridor which to our disdain appeared to be shared by others! The fitted stair and landing carpet looked grubby and no hair dryer evident.
Lovely traditional building Friendly staff that new the area Great location in the center of town Cosy, comfortable room Good pub food Good power shower in our room
Bathroom was maybe a little but basic but the essentials were provided and the shower was great
Good traditional pub with happy and helpful staff. Comfortable room and bed, slept very soundly even though there was a leaving do being held that evening that went on til early hours, we didn't hear a thing! They even made me a packed lunch for my long walk back to lewes. I Would stay here arain.
The weather, but I don't think the pub had any say in this.
Very comfortable bed. Excellent location, right in the middle of the village. Friendly, helpful staff. We loved the Slanting Room, though it takes getting used to at first. Clean room and bathroom (bathroom was separate but not shared). Tasty English breakfast served from 7.30 to 9.00 am. The noise from the pub downstairs did not affect us at all.
The bath/shower is tiny, due the slanting ceiling there was just enough space for me to properly stand to shower and i am only 5'4! Perhaps offering cereal and fruit juice for breakfast might be a nice idea as the only choice is an English breakfast.
Friendly people & excellent food !
No nearby parking facilities, although we were "allowed" to park outside Inn eventually. Shower power switch eventually pointed out to us OUTSIDE bathroom !
Owners very friendly and helpful without being fussed over. Food very good. Location spot on,we walked into Afriston from Eastbourne. I would definitely stay here again
The only thing missing was a good shower, but for one night it was fine.
Friendly staff, great location in the centre of the village and the inn just reeks of history! Excellent room overlooking the street, and even the madly sloping floor and steep staircase added to the ambience! I'd certainly recommend Ye Olde Smugglers Inne to anyone, 10/10.
Very hard to park the car, but that's no fault of the hotel. Nearest public car park was about 80 metres away and was nearly full most of the time.
walking part of south downs way - excellent base - ate in Smugglers x 2 nights - good food and value for money
Quirky and interesting. Historic with steps and passage ways and a sloping bedroom, with original oak beams and lead windows. In the middle of the village. Plenty of low doorways.
Bathroom facilities for our room were limited and shower didn't work.
Location, bar, room size, bed, beer.
Poor quality of fittings (broken sink), poor quality of decor, awkward steep stairs up from bar, separate bathroom (not in great condition). Food poor.
staff were helpful and friendly, room was comfortable and a good size. Location above a pub made for easy drinking after a long days walking.
Shower could have been better, but that's a minor quibble compared with the general high standard and value for money.
We loved the location and pub atmosphere and welcome by the owners on our late return from Glyndebourne!
The price of the taxi from Glyndebourne to Alfriston. We were told it would be £30 but when driver discovered we were 5 (as opposed to 4) in a 7 seater the price became £50. No logic here!!
A very comfortable inn with good food, an excellent location and very helpful staff.
The food service was a bit slow on one occasion. There was a tendency for the smell of cooking from the kitchen to invade the bedroom.
Location and comfortable room
Lack of choice at breakfast
Hearty packed lunch for onward travel, great service.
nice peaceful location,good food,friendly staff.
shared bathroom, which could be updated, and a shared guest lounge.
Friendly staff, excellent position in the village and very good value for money
We were there for 3 nights and during that time the room was not serviced
Staff very friendly gave us advise on what to do and see
Tea mugs not cleaned in room after use on sat morning small thing otherwise good would stay there again only if I could have same room
