Excellent service from staff, particularly the receptionists who went out of their way for me with the car parking facilities..
Wish it had a lift as I was on the second floor, a lot of stairs!...
The hotel's location near the harbour was convenient for us. It is a cosy hotel with a family character. We had a spacious room, which actually is made of two rooms. The personnel was very kind and helpful. The English breakfast was good, and there were additional items available such as muesli and yoghurt.
The sound isolation is very modest, in particular the windows towards the street. It is a small challenge to carry a large and heavy suitcase to second floor, because there is no lift.
Stayed two nights staff friendly and helpful, rooms clean and beds comfy. Breakfast was nice and food hot. We had an evening meal in the hotel which was also very nice and served by very polite staff Would stay at this hotel again and recommend it to friends and family
Its a steep climb to reach hotel but good news there are bus that stop at top
Good friendly service, excellent breakfast, central location.
Stains on carpet, some noise from below (loud conversation) cleaning could have been better.
Reception staff were friendly and helpful. Room was clean and comfortable. Plenty of cupboard space, shower room was very big. Lots of towels, shampoo, tea and coffee. Very good for the price.
Breakfast waitresses were very slow and not very informative. Buffet style breakfast, but there were other options if you saw the very very small sign on the cereal table.
The hotel had various areas for guests to sit - a small lounge, an outside patio and a bar/restaurant. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our room in the annexe was a good size and well equipped. Breakfast served in a separate breakfast room, was excellent - as well as the buffet the chef cooked other items to order. There was a restaurant deal menu which changed every other day.
The windows were difficult to keep open and the room was a little warm in the sun.
Excellent location. Close to the ferry and bus terminal in Ryde 5min walk. Also close to the shops bars and restaurants. Lovely little hotel would stay again. Highly recommend.
We had a spacious room with a sea view. it was reasonably quiet once people outside in the patio bar had gone to bed.(We had requested a quiet room) We had two comfy chairs and table so we could sit and enjoy the view. Staff were very friendly and the breakfast choices were very good. The old fashioned air about the reading/writing room and layout f the hotel was quite appealing in a nostalgic way.
The whole room was very old fashioned, furniture and fittings alike. It took me back to boarding houses and hotels of the 1950's when I was a child. One of the bed light fittings was hanging at an angle but still worked! The light went on in the bathroom 11 seconds after turning it on! Some mildew in the bathroom corner. The hairdryer was secured within the dressing table drawer which made it awkward to use. Towels which had been left to renew were not renewed when the room was cleaned and a call to reception led to a 20 minute wait for them before I could shower. Long way up with suitcase but okay if you are fit but means you can't miss how threadbare the stair carpet is!
A nice hotel in the traditional style, ideally situated with spacious rooms. Room was clean and comfortable with good en-suite toilet and washing facilities. Public areas were warm and friendly. Staff were courteous and friendly.
Chairs in bedroom could have been more comfortable. Room ventilation could be better - windows hardly opened. Would image that in hot weather rooms could get warm.
Smoking facility politeness & helpfulness of staff comfortable bed and very pleasant room
waiting an average of 40 minutes for my food order
A very clean hotel
a bit noisy in the mornings, this was from outside the hotel, vehicles ect
Our room was like a suite with a bedroom and lounge area.the bed was very comfy. We had a meal in the hotel restaurant which was excellent.
The hotel was ok but is looking a bit ready for a refurb.I know that upstairs the paintwork has been done but not to a very good standard.
Not a lot
Staff were not quick to assist with evening meal however once received the staff came back to check all was alright. It took so long to get served initially I actually thought they were short staffed then realised there were four waiting staff and was surprised.were virtually absent again during breakfast had worked out what to do before they showed up. Sleep was poor in room above bar and listened to night porter and delivery man having a laugh outside at 4 o'clock in the morning. Also heard the dust cart drive down so all in all will definitely book somewhere else for next journey
Location Free wi fi Staff
Cheap furnishings No toiletries provided General air of delapidation
The hotel itself is in a good central location, the staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast was well cooked and hot which I was surprised as it was on heat trays.
The single room was ok, but not what I expected for £65. The layout was poor in the room, bedding was old fashioned, but clean. The bed wasn't against a straight wall but set at an angle... You may see that as being picky but the bed kept coming away from the wall when I moved in it..
Friendly service Comfortable room Good breakfast Excellent quality throughout
Nice big room with facility of tea coffee , hair dryer . Nice view of sea from hotel window . Good breakfast .
Staff not friendly . I had to wait 2 hour for check in though request made for early checkin . Asked for parking place and one staff suggested to park on a pay and display bay though the hotel has private parking . Had to ask 3staff to find out hotels private parking . Toilet blocked and not very clean .
Yelfs is right in the middle of the Ryde High street and a walk from the seafront which is great. The rooms have tea and coffee and clean sheets and towels daily if required, lovely, polite cleaning staff. There is a large breakfast selection and the cooked breakfast is the best we have had and you can have as much or little as you want.
The hotel can be abit noisy as the high street is narrow and built up with pubs nearby. The only negative thing we can say on our recent stay was the noise made by a rowdy table whilst having breakfast and the waitresses who were very noisy banging the plates and cutlery whe resetting the tables, this was very irritating and they should of been more considerate.
Hotel Staff and Food were all good and the location was brilliant
I liked my my good-sized single room and bathroom which was nice and clean. The reception staff were courteous, helpful and welcoming. I would be very happy to stay at Yelf's again.
The only thing that let down my stay at Yelf's was the service - or lack of it - that I received in the dining room at breakfast on Friday 31st July 2014. I had never stayed at Yelf's before and was therefore unfamiliar with the procedure. When I entered the dining room I stood there for a while feeling like a spare part wondering whether to sit down or wait to be given a table. The girl clearing the tables nearby saw me but did not say good morning or tell me that I can sit anywhere I like and to please help myself to the buffet. I had to ask her about everything - everything. The only thing she asked me (when I was seated) was my room number. When I sat down I wasn't sure if she would bring a menu - or what exactly the procedure was. She was more interested in clearing and setting up her tables. I could have been invisible. She was pleasant enough when I eventually asked her for coffee and toast - but her mind seemed elsewhere and she forgot to bring the glass of water I asked for. This problem could be easily remedied by training the breakfast service staff to greet residents - especially new ones - with a cheery "Good morning. Please sit down anywhere you like. It is a buffet service but I will bring you tea or coffee and toast, if you'd like it" - not just ignore guests. I rated the staff as being "Good" for the receptionists, not for this young lady, I'm afraid. This was the only problem with my otherwise perfect stay. Next time I will know what to do, but first-time guests, especially, should be given some guidance. And saying "Good morning" with a smile would not hurt!
Ideal location of the hotel. Room was excellent & larger than expected.
Although the room itself was excellent the noise from outside was annoying.
Location Breakfast View from room Some where to park the car
Tired looking Not so clean but was in places that didn't really matter . Had read reviews before booking, so was as I expected.
Close to shops and esplande staff all helpful very good breakfast
Lots of stairs small ensuite
Large Room Friendly Staff Excellent Breakfast
Noisy Location Have learnt since Union Street has a bit of a bad reputation for loud parties and late night revellers. I must say our second night was much better maybe we were just unlucky.
Friendly staff , Excellant food and although the location was central it was easy to walk to other places.
The fact that it was very noisy due to the fact we had to have the windows open due to the heat and it was near to pubs that closed late.
