Very friendly and welcoming staff. The breakfast was outstanding E.G. presentation and unique menu if I had known how good the food was I would have pre-booked the evening meal!! Well done Chef My room was very clean and although very small - comfortable. The wardrobe fell forward I presume it needed wall support? The noise from the pipes were very loud and I thought my taps had been left on - However I put this into perspective as it is a listed building.

The staff are friendly and efficient without being "in your face". It was nice to see the chef (owner) in proper chefs whites when cooking breakfast, very professional and clean looking. The bed was very comfortable and I expected a very small room so was not taken by surprise that the room was indeed small. However I had been upgraded to the small room with full en-suite free of charge which was great. The breakfast was sublime. There are many choices on the menu which far exceed what you would expect for such a low tariff. The teenage worker who signed me in, served breakfast and helped me with my bags to room and then to car on leaving was delightful, polite and helpful. Sorry I didn't get his name. I would definitely stay there again when in the area. Only nit picking things such as: a sheet as well as a duvet on a single bed is a little restrictive. I had to remove the sheet as could not turn over in the bed without feeling swathed. Told you picky! the parking was a little limited although I was lucky to get a space in the free hotel car park opposite, there are only 4 spaces available, although I believe there is another small public car park around the corner. the traffic noise is quite obvious but if expected you put up with it for the price charged. The other noise (Christmas?) was from revellers returning from pubs in the early hours of the morning but hopefully this wouldn't be all year.

The rooms, staff and the breakfasts were extremely good. We used the hotel as a base to explore the North Devon coast and I would recommend it to other people on this basis. The location was not brilliant for us. While we successfully used Yeo Dale as a base to explore the north Devon coast I would not return to Barnstaple. I was also was kept awake at night by youths in the park across the road until 2.00am. Ideally I would move the hotel with its owners and staff somewhere else.

Exceptionally high standards of customer care, well beyond the call of duty. Incredible food, most unexpected! I've never been given a complimentary canape at breakfast before- a bite size raspberry pancake, beautifully presented. Wonderful Georgian house, attention to detail, everything looked after to the highest standard. Never come across a hotel quite like this before; go stay!

I have stayed at this hotel several times now and always had an enjoyable stay. The hotel is very impressive being a period property with some beautiful rooms decorated with style and flare. All the staff are friendly and attentive, breakfast is excellent. I believe evening meals are available if booked in advance. The hotel is situated a short walk from Barnstaple town centre. There are also loads of good beaches within 10 - 15 minutes drive. There is little dedicated parking but I have always found 'on road' spaces within a few metres.I Would definitely recommend this hotel.

“Booking was pleasant and quickly made and confirmation came quickly. A telephoned enquiry was answered promptly, cheerfully and accurately. Our welcome was pleasant and quick. When we requested help in the room porter staff were most willing to help. Our early morning calls came through on time and the morning newspaper was delivered early. I cannot fault the staff. They were happy to give us the best of service. We had a meal in the Bistro and that was superb. After such a welcoming stay we will not hesitate to stay the again. Many thanks for looking after us so well.” Angela, Southampton |
