The staff were helpful and friendly, keeping open the kitchen 30 minutes later than usual as we were arrving late. The rooms and bathrooms were excellent. The hotel has a nice, comfortable atmosphere in a slightly old fashioned, period way - which I happen to like. My Tom Tom had difficulty finding the post code. It might have been better to put in the name of the village

Lovely old coaching inn. Comfortable and beautifully decorated with friendly, helpful staff - a great place to stay for a romantic weekend away with enough things to see and do in the area. The restaurant was a delight. We would definitely stay again. Couldn't fault the place. It's an old coaching inn so the floor boards are a bit squeaky but what do you expect! It's part of the character and adds to the charm!

I attended my work Christmas party in one of the function rooms and it was so convenient to just go up to bed rather than having to drive the 30 miles home afterwards. The cooked breakfast was delicious. Lean bacon, very hot and not greasy.

Quaint, oldie worldy hotel with lots of character. Charming rooms with open fires to relax in. Rang the hotel in advance to say we would not make last orders for food, so the kitchen staff kindly prepared sandwiches and a platter of meat which was ready upon our arrival. We had a lovely large room but it was very cold when we arrived, once the heating had been switched on it warmed up. The room only had towels for one person even though it had been booked for two people, we could have asked for more, but made do with what we had. There was no information on the website about the gym. Had I known I would have brought appropriate clothing to use facilities.

A good hotel with pleasant, helpful, staff. Clean, well furnished rooms, no disturbances, good breakfast. Easy access from the great north road. No complaints as such, did notice that there did not appear to be lift for easier access to three floors.

lovely hotel. great staff. I had a terrible headache and i asked a member of staff if she had any paracetamol. She said no, but came back to me a few minutes later and insisted that she drove to a local pharmacy to get some for me. I went to bed and left my daughter with a tip to give to her, she refused it! A huge thanks to such a kind and helpful lady.

the old bell is a lovely old hotel with original features and is clearly a popular local venue for special celebrations. It is convenient for the A1 and yet seems buried in the countryside. staff were friendly and efficient although i only had breakfast there i can certainly recommend the porridge and kippers. the car park is right outside the reception and there are plenty of spaces. if you dont like stairs ask for a first floor room. it could have done with a lift. my room was very nice but very small for a double.

This was an "Olde Worlde" former coaching in with lots of antiques dotted around the place. The food was excellent and the room was well presented. We had a very pleasant stay The extractor fan pipe from the kitchens ran on our outside wall and was rumbling away until midnight and from about 7 am.

Large bedroom and bathroom. Choice of 2 restaurants - good menu and the food was well prepared.Breakfast was excellent. Being picky - it was difficult to turn on the shower, wait for the water to get warm and enter the shower without flooding the floor.

“We recently stayed at Bartle House and we honestly could not fault it at all. Phil and Kindall are the most welcoming and brilliant hosts, not forgetting little Blanche! The food is outstanding, we had a full english breakfast each and american pancakes which was brought to our room and served for us which was lovely. The room is amazing very clean and spacious, bigger than we thought, it had everything we needed and more. We went out for our evening meal and would definately recommend going to nearby Ranby to the Chequers Inn; it has beautiful homemade food and a lovely atmosphere for young couples or families. We would recommend staying here even for a one night getaway; you will be treated amazing. We have stayed in some beautiful 5 star hotels in the past and this is definately on par or even better. Thank you for a lovely weekend.” Lee, Rotherham |
