The hotel was extremely clean. Much attention has been given to tasteful redecoration and furnishing. The gardens, too, added to the overall effect of a well maintained and very pleasant place in which to stay. The owners and staff were friendly and helpful.

Ilona & John are the most charming of people really thoughtful and caring about the whole experience. The place is full of charm and character and very very tastefully furnished. Nothing was to much trouble.

A very friendly welcome, very nice touches (shortbread with a welcoming cup of coffee, canapé with a pre dinner drink), lovely evening meal with excellent service and a personal chat with the chef afterward. All the staff we came into contact with made every effort to make our stay enjoyable.

Not really much to say. Room was comfortable and clean.
The highlight of our stay was undoubtedly the food. We ate in the hotel restaurant in the evening. The food was superb - cooked perfectly and well presented. The chef also spoke to diners personally about the food - its sourcing and prep.

We were met by a member of staff who tried to explain they didn't cater for under 10's. Which was not indicated on the website. The travel cot had no mattress and the room was pokey and freezing cold. Had to leave in the middle of the night as my child could not sleep...

Bed and bath run quick. Location good

There was nothing in particular to dislike. However, the bedroom was slightly quirky with the wash basin not in the en-suite bathroom/toilet. The reason was obvious though, as the shape of the bathroom could not accommodate the basin.
I liked the welcome with a pot of tea and help with our luggage (which is unusual these days). The large lounge was very comfortable and it has a well stocked bar at sensible prices. The 26 year old head chef has designs on a Michelin Star so the food was of exceptional quality, and there was an unusually comprehensive wine list. In general, the service was excellent with the bonus of friendly staff. I thought it was good value for money.

The elegant old building has recently been taken over by new owners who have a lot of work to do to bring this tired hotel up to standard. The water pressure is very feeble in the shower and our bathroom was tiny. The restaurant is closed on Sunday.
Very friendly, helpful staff and owners. Lovely location. Beautiful gardens. Good food.
