We liked the location, was very pretty and nice to be away from built up areas and busy roads. The showers were good and the bar and restaurant areas were very comfortable and roomy. It had everything we needed really for a good sleep and somewhere to relax for a couple of hours in the evening after a long day climbing.
For self-catering there were not enough fridges for the number of people staying - it was difficult to even find room for a carton of milk!
The location is amazing, right next to a lovely river and so many walks starting just outside the door.
Views To stay in a pod cabin was a unique experience
Access, far away from Keswick Outdoor bathroom has a lot of dead insects, need a cleanliness
Simple clean and comfortable accommodation; good food for reasonable extra price. YHA have reinvented themselves wonderfully
The general layout of Cafe bar, restaurant and reception were very good. The location was superb
There was a distinct smell around the front of the building from the cess pit. The toilets on the ground floor were also partly flood and there did not appear to be enough toilets for number of people on ground floor.
The camping pods are excellent but my old bones needed something more than the sleeping bags we had taken - floors have got harder since I was young. The restaurant, bar and games room were super as were the staff. The location is lovely and the hostel has a good feel and doesn't smell of the usual 'YHA feet and rucksacks' - it is bright and fresh.
The Youth hostel is super. Sadly the inside toilet had been left blocked and in a state. It was pristine by the following morning - credit to the staff - but you can't always steer clear of visitors who don't know how to behave - a sad fact of life. Everything else was super.
Bar on site Help with local waks
Evening meals are very good Very cosy bar and nice restaurant Beautiful surroundings Friendly and helpful staff
The room was far from clean Expensive YHA: if you add up al costs then we've payed more than in some of the b&b's on our route) No free WiFi (£3 per hour is very expensive)
Fantastic location, amazing walks; hostel well maintained, clean and comfortable with good facilities and friendly staff. Good showers, nice bar and restaurant areas. Wide variety of guest groupings. Lovely atmosphere - away from it all feeling :). Availability of evening food a bonus, however an amazing inn, The Langstrath Country Inn, half a mile down road opposite the hostel is a must visit!
Would like more information on the great walks of the area to be easily available.
An extremely 'homely' and relaxed atmosphere, food very good, games room (table tennis and bar football), board games & games could be borrowed and no television! Excellent! The location absolutely beautiful and peaceful.
Don't think there was anything we didn't like.
The food. The drying room. Atmosphere. Everything.
I noticed a buzzing noise throughout the night.
Good location and nice staff.
This hostel seems to double as a budget-holiday extravaganza for young families during the summer hols so if you have kids this is probably a great setting. However if you're travelling without kids be aware that the setting is v. noisy and over-run - consequently it's hard to get a lot of peace at this time. The food seemed a fair price but in fact was extremely bland and not worth it.
close to the lake and many routes to choose for hiking.
a bit noisy in the morning when people are using the toilet and shower
Loved everything about this place, can't wait to go back
Location is fantastic. Enjoyed staying in a pod for the first time. Facilities and ambience were very satisfactory too.
surrounding scenery is amazing cosy and comfortable and relaxing atmosphere very calm and quiet even when full of people feels more like a little hotel beautifully clean in well maintained very friendly and accommodating staff
nothing at all
Clean, quiet, good food, good showers, good location. Friendly and helpful staff. Nice atmosphere.
Stopped in one of the pods, such a lovely spot, very tranquil with easy access to superb walks. The shower & toilets were immaculate, but of course the bugs like them too! The village of Rosthwaite was a short walk where the food & beer in The ScaFell Hotels Riverside Bar were very welcome.
The pods could have done with somewhere to hang clothes, very minor thing though.
The staff is very nice and patient. The girl at the front desk was so warm hearted when i ask her for advices on walking routes. If you are a hiker it's really a good place. But if you just want a glance it's a bit far away from the town centre.
Food was ok for the price
Windows didn't open and it was inpossible to sleep because of the heat
Location, helpfulness of staff, facilities and food.
Location was ideal for anyone doing the C2C walk. The Facilities including lounge, bar, were good and and the staff helpful and efficient. The meals were of a good quality and value for money.
The location and grounds. Well organised kitchen
