facilities, food at reasonable prices, open all day, relaxed atmosphere, very friendly staff
loud music in coffee lounge cafe not enough lighting, slow to get electrical fault repaired in self catering kitchen
Staffs are friendly and the facilities are great!! Love the decorations, and everything!
Location, great reception personnel
Charging for WiFi
Friendly staff that went out of their way to help. A very good experience.
Clean, tidy, modern
Has kitchen and common zone
Toilets are small and claustrophobic, no free WiFi!!!!
I enjoyed having my low expectations shattered. The accessibilty and staff were amazing.
I disliked the shower rooms which were small and busy
We needed a stopover before flying - and it was a comfortable, clean and decently priced place to get one. It was nice to get a beer in the hostel rather than needing to go and find a bar, and the entrance area was nice, with interesting poems, quotes and pictures to read.
There were some noisy guests in the wee small hours, but what can you do - it is a youth hostel, after all!
It was cheap.
It was cheap, but not value for money. The YHA Cambridge looks cosy and welcoming when you enter the main lounge, but you are soon left longing you'd staying in one of the B&B's across the street. Once you have left the beautifully air-conditioned lounge, you enter the sweatshop behind. Rooms are tightly packed in to the YHA solar system; each acting like a miniature sun generating enough heat to run the place. If you want to use the Wifi, that'll be £1 for 20 minutes, please - or you can sign up for annual membership for £7 and use the Wifi for 'free'! Now, the latter option wouldn't be a bad choice were it not for the fact that once you've stayed, you'll never want to stay again. Forgotten your toothpaste? Don't worry, you can purchase a 'dental kit' for £1.75, which consists of a plastic toothbrush and a whole 7ml of fine-quality artisan toothpaste. Towels will cost you £2 rental plus £5 deposit (but if you don't have cash, you can't get one). In my case, I was mistakenly put into a female dorm, even though I'd booked a male one. Arriving late and feeling tired and sweaty (now I'd entered my room), I didn't register that this wasn't a mixed dorm and quickly attempted to sleep amidst the heat and the booming sound of school children running back and forth upstairs. In the morning, it was realised both by my room mates and the hostel staff that I was in fact a man in a female dorm. No apology was given for this mistake - in fact, they appeared to blame me asking 'You didn't notice?!'. Sorry, my bad. All in all, the YHA seems intent on fleecing you for all you are worth, luring you in with a reasonable 'starter' price and then selling you additional services in their most minimal form for extortionate prices. They are to hostels what Bernard Matthews is to a free range chicken.
very clean, comfort and calm. Also provide EUR currency payment service
Near from the train station
1. not sound proof and if you want to have a good sleep, you'd better choose the other hotels. 2. the staff are not helpful. 3. The breakfast is cheap but not good quality.
The hostel was clean and the staff were friendly enough. If you are happy to do without wifi, space, amenities etc, this is at the lower end of what you can expect to pay in Cambridge.
As a hostel, I expected the trade off to be a low price for minimal services. I feel that the price of this hostel far exceeds what it offers, especially in relation to other local accommodation. In this hostel there is very little space in the rooms, bunk beds, no soap, no towels, no wifi included in the price, and breakfast also comes at an extra charge. Yes, it is close to the train station, but in Cambridge the train station is a good 25 minute walk from the centre of town. The price comes in around £15 cheaper than the cheapest hotels/BnBs around it (unless you get a decent deal at these other places, in which case the price difference is almost entirely removed). If you choose to pay for wifi and breakfast at the hostel, you might as well go somewhere else where these items are included in the price, because you will most likely get a better room, bed, space, location, amenities and experience for a very similar price.
Very clean, newly remodeled.
Children were noisy, and there were a lot of them. Additionally, the shower rooms were a bit awkward...
It was very clean cosy place with new furniture and comfortable beds, very friendly staff and budget for money
A little bit confusing location
Feels very clean and fresh
Be ready for tiny rooms and have ear plugs (neighbour hazard)
+ Comfy places to sit + Great self-catering kitchen + Super friendly staff + Good base for exploring Cambridge + Only 20 min walk into the centre of Cambridge
- Noisy guests - Towells weren't provided, you had to rent them
I really enjoyed your self-help kitchen! Best equiped and clean kitchen I have ever seen in a hostel! Well done! And the beds and the bedding were very comfortable as well.
If you had bigger bins in the toilets (I only know about the secon floor) they wouln't be filled to the rim already in the morning. And it would look less messy. But that is just an idea.
Very clean and organized. All beds have their own light and plug, the showers are good and the staff very helpfull. In spite of the breakfast being charge separately, it's worth it.
Amazing value for money, what a lovely place! Clean, Modern & very friendly staff!
The atmosphere was welcoming and relaxing and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly to the kids as well.
There wasnt anything bad, just remember the walls are a little thin so expect to hear a few loud people before 11 pm
It was all great, the best hostel I've been in, anywhere
Other guests having races up and down the corridors at 1am, shouting and screaming and waking everyone else up. It was impossible to get back to sleep.
Stayed at YHA just for one night before a graduation ceremony with my mum, sister and friend. We had a quadruple room for £75 which was a massive saving compared to other hotels in Cambridge. We were so impressed, it was clean and very modern. Most importantly we felt safe as you need a card to get into the area where the rooms are. There's a sink in the room and individual toilets and shower rooms which was great. Only downside was breakfast, the hot water was cold in the flasks so tea wasn't nice and the hot food was average. Cheap though at £4.99! Overall, brilliant experience. Would definitely stay again when I visit friends in Cambridge.
the surrounding is very calm and enjoyable.
should provide keys per person for room.
