The YHA Ambleside sits on the shores of Lake Windermere in the Lake District. It offers a range of budget accommodation, a café serving local food, and self-catering facilities.

I arrived in a last minute booking and the staff member Richard was terrific. He was incredibly helpful pointing me in the right direction for any queries I had and making sure I enjoyed my stay. The location is beautiful as well as it backs onto a river.
Ideal location for Keswick centre plus out of town walks, such as climbing Skiddaw. Relaxed atmosphere with great bar. Free parking not too far away. And very well priced!
Not many toilets and showers. Beds are a little short if you're six foot or over.
The location and quiet clean rooms.
Poor wifi connection.
The location was excellent and so was the breakfast for 4.99 each. Staff were good and Keswick has plenty of good walks and good pubs.
Had a wonderful stay at keswick, very clean accom, nice friendly staff. Very welcoming.
The location was perfect, staff really polite, friendly, knowledgeable and approachable. Extremely clean and the breakfast value for money.
Difficult to use the toilet on a morning due to people using the sink for wash/ shave etc, in the sink which was in the room where the toilet was. A sink in the shower room may help this problem.
The location and friendly staff
Let down by no free wifi for non members
The book exchange is absolutely gorgeous!
Situated within 2 minutes walk of the town centre, helpful staff and very clean.
Lovely location. Bedroom facilities including bed and bed linen were very clean. A very peaceful nights sleep.
The communal rooms and facilities were dirty. All of the doors including handles and brass plates were very grubby and I did not want to touch them. I did not want to use the kitchen. I used this hostel often in the 80's and 90's and like all YHA hostels in the lakes it was very clean. This was my first night in a hostel for over 10 years and I was shocked at the lower standard. At £29 for a single private room I saved money but after paying and looking around I wished I had booked into a hotel. I have been put off returning to hostelling. It is not how I remembered.
staff is very friendly and tell me much information about Keswick
wifi is only covered 1st floor and ground
Friendly mix of younger and older travellers. Excellently equipped catering kitchen. Bathrooms were clean and well maintained. Friendly faces at reception. Parking is close by on the street ... free disc parking but longer parking available a little further down the street.
Light sleepers might be bothered by the rustle of water all night from the creek but really not an issue. Cooking oil wafts into staircase from breakfast room in mornings, but here we are scraping the bottom of barrel ... would recommend
Male & female shared toilet, toilet seat left up every time I went and it wasn't clean underneath! This is the only negative about hostel
relaxed friendly atmosphere. staff exceptionally kind and helpful. fantastic location. will definitely be returning.
showers could be cleaner and sofas could be comfier
Great hostel accommodation in a fabulous setting, it was clean and comfortable. Ideally situated by the river, handy for the town and yet with the fells only a short walk away. We ate breakfast which was excellent served by friendly and helpful staff.
Nothing negative to say.
Friendly and knowlegable staff
My smelly friends with whom I shared a room
Situated in the centre of Keswick so within walking distance of shops, restaurants, pubs etc.
We paid £79 for a triple room (bunk-bed and a single) it was for 2 people but was the last room available.
Located in town centre Clean and tidy facilities Good value for money
Breakfast - had to wait whilst food was prepared so maybe guessing understaffed in kitchen
The staff and the restaurant
No en suite in room
It was the most cheap hostel in town but hostel was clean and comfortable. I would recommend YHA.
Location to town. Amenities. Leisure rooms x 2. Fantastic Kitchen. Ironing facilities. River location.
Within easy reach of town and lovely breakfast!
Bathroom facilities were excelent
Room was very shabby mouldy curtains carpet was dirty
Although I had sole use of a room with 3 beds in it (that's what I had reserved- my partner could not join me at the last minute), I still found it was good value for money, as you get so much more than in a B&B. You have various lounges, the option to prepare your own food in a well stocked kitchen -which is pretty standard in uk yha hostels. I would say that the food options in the restaurant were well above standard yha can have a breakfast for a fiver and an evening meal for just under £8. I had a 'mean' vegetarian risotto. 1St class. Showers cleverly updated, easy to clean, therefore clean!
There's nothing I did not like. I guess the carpets need some cleaning treatment...but then again, I much rather have some school classes, middle aged and older customers, all happy talking to each other, rather than too precious interior decoration.
