Friendly staff. Great location if your holiday is focused on walking. 10 minute drive from Ambleside.
Not very well sign posted. Spent an hour trying to find hostel.
Lovely place highly recommended!
too far away, no sign on the way
It is well located, and clean with fantastic views. It is quiet but you can walk or taxi to the nearest pub or town. The staff are very friendly without being 'over bearing' and the guests all seemed to have a common reason for staying there, walking not partying. As a first time YHA guest, I was very impressed with the accommodation and also the food, which for the price was, in my opinion incredibly cheap.
Not enough plug sockets and no night light for guests in the shared dorm which meant the main light went on whenever someone came in the room disturbing the sleep of others ( this was after 11 pm) I do think guests should have a code of conduct or suggestions for curtesy , such as, after ten pm the rooms should be for sleeping, not socialising ( there are plenty of spaces for this in the YHA) and beauty regimes could be carried out in the very spacious bathroom rather than keeping the main light on for prolonged periods when others are sleeping at night time. These are not major issues, just one persons suggestions as on the whole, this is a great YHA
good location , facility
My girlfriend had a bad migraine. Staff and especially duty manager on evening of 12 July were really helpful and kind.
The staffs are very good and helpful. The room is big enough. The environment is quite good, especially if you want to tracking to Loughring Fell. The kitchen is very good and they also provide drink water.
Staff were excellent - every member of the team gave a friendly welcome, spent time to make us feel welcome and were personable. Made us feel like we were an important part of their day. We self catered in the morning - could do with more seating in the kitchen, and enjoyed a lovely meal in the evening. Location, building and views all excellent
Could do with more seating in the self catering kitchen, and advertise that you have to purchase any beer from the YHA on site. We'd purchased a few bottles prior to arrival which we weren't allowed to consume. Not a major problem, but would have been good to now prior to arrival
Had to put sheets on and off own beds...not cleanly facilities.
Rooms dirty with cobwebs. Arrived late with a 2yrs old and 4yrs old and had to start to make up beds. Usually stay at Grasmere and beds are made up and we expected the same. The last thing we needed after a long and late car journey
The staff were incredibly helpful especially as we had to leave before breakfast and they sorted us out with some bread for toast and tea bags. They couldn't do enough for us.
Rooms were very clean and so was bedding. Breakfast was good value. Most staff were very friendly. Lovely building.
11pm curfew is not ideal for all groups. One member of staff could have been more polite when asking people not to drink own alcohol outside of the building.
friendly, relaxed atmosphere
Breakfast was poor
Good stay .staff especially . Miranda especially was too good . She assists guests so very well . Goes extra mile and helps guests .
Ports in rooms to charge phones will help . Realise it's a reasonable amount charged . But this is something basic these days .
The staff were outstanding
The location was beautiful and the property was lovely. A great place to stay.
One other traveller in the same dorm obviously hadn't stayed at a hostel before and displayed selfish behaviour as well as being a snorer which affected everyone else. There is an opportunity for staff to question people and inform them about appropriate etiquette. Providing a dorm for snorers works in other countries!
Good hotel, good staff
