minor difficulty getting in at 10.30pm - but then, I am older than the average guest perhaps.
Bathroom and toilet inside the room.
- Wi-Fi connection only have good signal in ground floor. - The strange bed arrangement make me uncomfortable
Size of rooms, comfort, heating and facilities were all excellent. £20 a bed in London is fantastic value. We all had a really good night's sleep.
We had two rooms. One had metal framed beds, the other with wood. The metal beds were great but the wooden ones were in need of refurbishment with a few broken panels. They didn't seem entirely stable either, though we slept well.
You get a nice small private room with a little private bathroom for little money. Basically it's all you need for a city trip because you don't really want to stay in during the day anyway. Breakfast is not included but can ordered extra, however that's a little pricey and it's probably best to grab some elsewhere. All YHAs now provide free WiFi in the lobby, even to non-YHA members and as always they do have discounts on tickets for the most popular sights. The reception is open 24/7, perfect for late check-ins. Accessibility is good during the day, also thanks to the nearby Overground station, but even by bus you're not too far away from sights such as Tower Bridge.
There's not much to do in the neighborhood. There is a famous pub called the Mayflower one stop away but it closes rather early as most pubs do, so there's not much chance to see it. Also it can be an exhausting challenge to find the right connections if national express drops you off at Victoria at a time when the C10 bus is no longer running. Thank God for London transportation apps and mobile data. The carpets need some thorough cleaning, otherwise it's a really good place to stay at.
very kind staff! nice bed.
so little far from london center.
Value, location, friendly staff
No WiFi in some rooms
A warm comfortable bed and clean
no hot water in the shower
Staff is very very helpful, self catering kitchen, quiet rooms
in some rooms there is strange bed compostion (one bed is squeezed between two on bunk bed) which makes the middle "drawer" bed quite uncomfortable, especially if you don´t know people on bunks. Wifi is not in rooms (as usual what i encountered in London) and again only in overcrouded common areas
Travelling alone, I felt very safe and welcomed
Being worried about using the shower in case I tripped the fire alarm
the comfort of bed. the location was not at that bad but still too complicated for me anyway.
free internet can only be accessed on the ground floor. besides, the internet signal was not good.
Very friendly staff. Easy access (via bus or metro) to touristic places like London bridge. Not that far from the overground metro station. Calm neighborhood.
I have stayed in different youth hostels across the world. There are a couple areas where YHA London Thameside can improve substantially. 1. I had booked a twin room for my 3 night stays. When I reached there, I was told that there was some confusion in their booking system and so I will stay in the twin room for first 2 nights and I will have to shift to another room on the third day. I think this was a bit too unprofessional and it was also sheer wastage of time to shift rooms! 2. There was no wifi in rooms. Wifi was available only in the reception area and I dont understand why it is such a big deal to provide wifi in all floors. The reception area was often getting crowded with student tour groups 3. The toilet in the twin room I stayed was horribly small. The most difficult part was taking shower. It had an unmovable shower head (no proper shower head and it just had something like a small tap!!) and it was fixed at the height of a 7-10 year old kid. So I had to literally bend down to take shower and it was very much like trying to take shower under a small tap! [The bathroom in the quadrple bed room to which I was shifted on the third day was spacious]. 4. YHA doesnt provide toiletries or towels. While I can understand the case of towels, is it that expensive to provide soaps for the customers? Wouldn't it be far more eco-friendly and customer-friendly, if they can provide liquid soaps in toilets? In the present scenario, customers have to buy their toiletries for their short stays and imagine the amount of plastic waste YHA will be generating per year in this regard. This could be easily avoided and our planet could be better protected, even if it means addition of 50c to daily rates by YHA. 5. For the twin room where I stayed first, the staff was mentioning at the time of check-in that the steam from the toilet or even deo-sprays can start the fire alarm in that room and so even deo-sprays should be used only after closing the toilet door!
The room was warm, quiet and comfy. The duvets were great.
There were no tea bags in my room and no soap in the showers.
The hostel is very clean, well decorated, and has a nice ambiance. It is quiet and has a good value for money. The location is not bad; well it's in Zone 2 which is a bit far from the center of London but at this price, I definitely recommend it.
The beds are very uncomfortable. So I wound't recommend it for a whole week but just for a night or 2
Value for money Free WiFi
Poor lighting in bedrooms
The toilet did not flush. Wifi was only available in the lobby. The shower was too low for tall people, dirty and the shower head was broken. They do not clean every day. One of the mattresses was totally worn out. You cannot properly air out your room.
The staff were amazing! Welcoming, knowledgable and friendly. The location was very nice, although a bit tricky to find. Amenities were great, kitchen was well equipped.
Bathroom could have used some general maintenance, fan automatically turned on and ran for hours after using the bathroom. Laundry was a bit pricey.
- free Wifi in lobby and bar - Price was okay - Beds were comfy and clean - Warm watter in shower - Nice Staff and more importand available 24 Hours - Breakfast (5 pounds) was good
- We were in different rooms - We were in different rooms - We were in different rooms - We were in different rooms - Not allowed to bring our own beer from outside - No soap in bathroom after all i would not recommend it for families or someone who plans to stay longer than a few nights, but its a great cheap place to stay for 2-3 nights
Beds were comfortable . Hostel was quiet.
The fact we were told we had to have a different room for each night. Bathroom of 2nd mouldy and shower floor bumpy almost falling apart
the location is not so good, little bit far from centre.and there's no luggage room for after check-out luggage, just lockers to pay for,and when it ran out, staff will tell u to take it with u then.........BTW,I was told no membership discount with reservation from Booking.com:(((.......
Near bus stop, 24 hours accessible, nice staff
No wifi in room
Staff are very helpful. Facilities are superb for the price. Always good value !!
Location is a bit dodgy, but the train station is a handy 10mins away
The facilities. Rooms are too small.
Nice staff and residents! Thanks so much for the Christmas pie and the help with making turkey! Though the fan in the toilet is a bit loud. Actually very convenient with a 381 bus for 10 seconds of walk and jubilee line nearby.
Beds were comfy. Breakfast was quick, hot and fresh. Nice to have ensuite shower and toilet. View from third floor window of the shard and skyline very impressive.
Not good for tall people! Shower head fixed too low. Beds boarded at the ends. Kitchen not good. Badly equipped and dirty equipment.
Everything was as described!!!
Everything worked out perfect. There was nothing wrong with the hostel.
