Everything, especially the manager!
location lovely Bathroom refurbished Linen clean Good drying room
Poor value for money by YHA standards Extremely tired / dated / dirty Damp/mouldy rooms Poor breakfast
Great location for trail races from Glenridding. YHA are trying to sell the hostel to raise capital for other purposes. Hence lack of investment here. Fab location and embodies what hostelling and YHA exists to provide. So drop the sale idea and renovate YHA !!
Lack of renovation having an effect on building .
I like everything about YHA Patterdale and I think that it's a crying shame that the place is being sold off. I hope those in charge think again about it. John Burrows
Nothing I didn't like.
Though the hostal needed some updating, I found it spacious and comfortable. The bunks were very comfortable and the staff very friendly. The location was perfect for the coast to coast walk with fantastic views of a fell rising up outside our window!
Space location Towels and bedding were clean and well organised. Good hot water in kitchen and plenty of crockery. Plenty of dining chairs and tables. Good local literature and booklets.
Very run down decor. No facilities to lock valuables away in communal bedrooms, up to 10 persons/room. Most of the kitchen facilities were very old Some gas appliances didn't work and switches were old and the bakelite was broken. It wasn't helped by the local power cut for 16h so no lights or electric appliances were working. Only 2 showers, one of these near the front door down a glass-sided corridor, for the total number of female clients. No Wi-Fi
£154 for a bunk bed for two of us for 4 nights. We should have stayed in a B and B or hotel for that price!
Grass on rooftops! Checked in early, which was a kindness after our walking day. Great drying room. Quiet place.
Pay for WiFi...and expensive.
Everything. I arrived at 5 as hostel opened - no toilet paper in ladies; no lock on shower; drying room is FILTHY; says breakfast starts at 7.30 but no toast or cooked until 8; no continental breakfast ie croissant, cheese etc. Cooked food looked revolting and judging by what was left obviously was; dormitory freezing
The location was super and well situated for the coast to Coast walk
We were really disappointed that we were unable to have Breakfast the next morning as we hadn't booked! When we arrived the staff member on duty hadn't informed us about booking breakfast!! We left hungry and with20miles walking ahead of us! We felt miserable!!
A fantastic location...lovely views from the courtyard. We had a very warm welcome from the gentleman on reception when we arrived and he was helpful and jolly despite it being busy. We didn't see it an issue to check in after 5 but for those who do...there's a sign as you come in inviting you to use the common rooms while you wait. I would advise a drink in the courtyard if it's sunny!! Thank you YHA!
Nikki from Bristol, the cosy ness of the common room, friendly staff, location excellent. Warm in hostel heating on in evenings. Nice and relaxing.
Beds comfy enough but woke up with stiff neck every morning for 3 nights, needs up dating though.
It is very well organised and managed. We were impressed with the friendliness and welcoming feel of the communal facilities. (They were very well equipped too!!) The whole hostel have this homely feel to it. Hostel was full when we stayed, nevertheless it was not crowded and everyone respected each others privacy. We loved it!!! It was a cherry on the top of our explorers adventure!
Dirty windows were spoiling spectacular views from the hostel windows.
Warm, dry room and an excellent drying room. Good food.
Reception not open until approx. 1700 hrs.
Location and warm welcome and excellent service given by Staff
Fabulous facilities with remarkable potential run into the ground and not updated by management. Scandalous!
The gentleman who appeared to run the hostel was very polite and helpful as were the rest of the staff.
There was thick black mould all round the windows in the ladies dorm; and also on the shower tiles. The showers were barely luke warm. The paneling round the pipes by the beds was not attached. This was the worst hostel for cleanliness i have stayed in over 25 years.
The location is a bit far from the main village but i don't mind. It's a good place to have long walks and just chill. No wifi and not even no reception, plan things in advance or just go with the flow.
-Patient staff -Group of friends able to share a dorm room. -Breakfast was pretty good value too at just £4.99 per person.
-Bedding wasn't too fresh
The stuff were very helpful, pleasant and cheerful and went out of their way to help us. we were very pleased with this and well recommend and stay at this YHA again if ever up that way
Within walking distance of lake and pubs
Beds were hard . A musty smell on rooms . Not enough showers . Extracter fan in shower room disgusting . Cooked breakfast only average .
Friendly staff, food good
Cleanliness was poor, toilets and showers were dirty and there was only one shower in the dorm area. Facilities were clearly not cleaned or replenished at the time of stay.
Sinks and shower were clean.
Dorm and corridor smelt stale. Airless throughout. Kitchen didn't look cared for. Disappointing.
Very flexible with parking; allowing us to park a car over two days prior to arrival after a linear walk was very helpful. Hearty breakfast. served by friendly staff, great drying room and nice hot showers, thank you.
There was nothing to dislike at all.
Great location and the staff ( particularly the lovely Welsh chef ) were very friendly.
The rooms are really dingy and definitely in need of an update - it's not a cheap stay at £25.00 no breakfast and no en-suite and whilst it's all about the camaraderie - it could do with updating.
