everything! fantastic stay with friends and after this being a first time hostel experience the group of friends and myself are now firm favourites for hostelling and have now made futher bookings .. brilliant all round!
Amazing views Friendly, helpful staff
Noisy doors which banged in the night!
the breakfast was great!
no free wifi
A beautiful house in a beautiful location with excellent facilities
We never got the wifi we paid for separately to work...
Warm welcome from staff, good food and clean accommodation.
Can't think of anything
Good communal areas and a drying room for wet clothes/boots. All spotlessly clean and showers always had hot water. The hostel is in a lovely woodland setting and is close enough to get to the Monsal Trail without using the car. Other good walks direct from the hostel. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Not so keen on the cooked breakfast but it was ok and not expensive.
As a family we found the hostel welcoming with the staff making all of us feel at home! Nothing was too much trouble especially the booking in process! The breakfast the following morning was well cooked and presented and Greg greeted us with a friendly "Morning" We will be visiting Ravenstor again!
There really wasnt anything to spoil the stay for us only positives for us personally!
The people are generally more friendly and some times a bit eccentric which is great , also you can share a common love of nature.
Well ? No casino , no after dinner floor show darling ?
Food excellent, Staff very attentive and friendly.Pleasant lounge and Study, Was able to access/see Dr David Bellamy's hill/meadow. The Chef turned out a very good meal for all of us undoubtledly the best we have had in a very long time. Maybe Giles Coren The Times Food Critic should should come here as he regularly pays £xxx for food of a lesser standard/quality.
The bunk beds, we cannot use the top one as we are 70 years old and disabled, If we can we put the top bunk mattress on the floor we are ok, but we couldn't fit the mattress on the floor as there was not the space as in other YHA's. Never the less we enjoyed our stay at Ravenstor and my 23 year old grandaughter wants to go back to YHA, so do my 45 year plus daughters ...
The age and location of the house. The breakfast was fab. Bar open till 11pm. Relaxed, friendly, helpful atmosphere. Excellent location. If you're not expecting a luxury hotel it's wonderful. Used to camping so it was a plus for the family.
Only 1 problem was a hammer pipe in the toilet so when flushed early hours tended to make more noise then necessary. But in a very old house things like that are possible. A good plumber may be able to fix though.
The hostel was extremely clean, the staff friendly and welcoming and the overall experience was really enjoyable
Great customer service. Congenial friendly staff.
Found bedroom dusty.
Really friendly staff....great atmosphere .Eating area and the grounds were particularly good. Close to the Monsal Trail for cycling!
Very Helpful staff, amazing location
Need little improvement on food menu
The availability of a family room at a reasonable price. The bar and restaurant were good value. The games room was great for the kids albeit quite limited in choice of toys.
The room was on the cool side and it is far from 5* but anyone coming to YHA expecting that is certifiable.
We'll be going back!
Staff, location, breakfast
Size of self catering kitchen
the staff where very kind and helpful and the breakfast was great
having never stayed at a youth hostel before maybe we were expecting to much to be fair I was happy enough it was my to travelling companions that moaned
Friendly and helpful staff, location great for walks, pleasant room, great views from the hostel, lovely walks in the grounds
The kitchen was rather cramped if several people were self catering, only one small sink. The beauty of Youth Hostels is that you can self cater so it needs to be taken into account.
The service leader Tony who is from Liverpool is so nice and helpful and made my short stay very even more comfortable.
Super location, excellent breakfast.
Most wonderful staff and excellent food! Our two sons aged 8 and 5 fell in love with the soup they had at Ravenstor and my husband was very happy with the choice of beer they had. But most of all, it was the staff made our stay extremely special. The surrounding area is spectacular. Would love to stay longer!
The location was brilliant for getting out on some easy to follow walks and generally be a part of nature for the weekend. The staff were wonderfully friendly and welcoming.
Loved the open fires, and friendliness of the staff
I didn't book through the yha, and on the website it said that my bed was the cheapest in the hostel (£40) I was in a last min rush, and so had to go with it... Meant that I paid £40 for my bed, i.e. unknowingly had a 4 bedded dormitory to myself. Was a lot to pay for me, and I wonder if the website could be clearer as to what I was paying for, and why. I haven't stayed at yha for years, and the price felt high for just me. someone else could have joined me!? The clarity of the website is what I'm questioning. I was told that next time I need to contact the YHA direct. But the hostel and staff were great. Thank you. ps the light above the bed by the window needs a bit of tlc.
