The cleanliness !
The lax attitude of staff !
It was quite boring - there was hardly any youth and very little interaction, far less than I'm used to.
We had the most lovely weekend staying at the YHA. We ate a delicious supper and breakfast which was incredibly cheap (the children ate for free!) and had a fun time sleeping in bunkbeds. We had our own shower and loo too. The staff were friendly and helpful. There is play equipment in the garden which our children really enjoyed while we sat and drank a very nice bottle of wine.
Nice garden, central location
Incompetent staff (better be well-prepared when you want to come because the staff can't help you with anything), partly unfriendly and not willing to work, small self-catering kitchen with no space to eat properly, no wifi in rooms, only a small rinse of water coming out of the shower
Toilet was unable to lock due to broken handle. Everything is om the worn side in this Hostal. Anna and Eskil, Stockholm
great location lovely breakfast staff were welcoming and friendly Great price Had never stayed in a hostel before, it was comfy, clean, shower facilities shared but basic and clean. Can't go wrong
Location Price Staff Garden Cafe
Lack of lockers
A great welcome as we arrived- fresh clean sheets and pillow cases and a clean dorm- kitchen facilities were clean and well stocked and great value for money- we will be back
Brilliant location, and we had a great view right over the Market Square of this lovely little Cotswolds town. Lovely building, which still has its historic charm. Nice small terrace to have drinks while the children played in the garden to rear. Parking right outside. Basic facilities, but clean, comfortable, and brilliant value for me and the two children.
The breakfast service was a little bit grumpy, and the communal approach (even to the toast juice and tea that we had asked for) meant that as soon as anything was put out it was immediately cleaned up by a large family sitting next to us who were between us and the table. The girl who was doing breakfast was most put out about being asked to bring anything extra, but we had paid for it, so felt like we needed to get something! Other staff were very friendly and helpful.
Fantastic location. Stow is a quite and lovely town to stay, with many tea rooms, shops and restaurants. The Hostel is in a 18th Century building with lots characters. Staff are very nice and helpful. Strongly recommend and will come back again.
Location. Right in the middle of town. Lovely building. Good facilities.
Staff didn't seem to communicate well between themselves so things were a bit random, eg no breakfast and bed got stripped and my stuff thrown on floor because they thought I had gone..!??!
I loved this hostel, located right on the town square in the charming little village of Stow On The Wold. It was the perfect place to stay for a look at the Cotswolds. I had a car so it was very easy - I don't know how challenging it would be to get there if you are using public transportation. Worth it, though!
It's a hostel and is fitted into an old building in a fit-as-fit can kind of way. As a result, some of the rooms are up a couple of very steep flights of stairs. Probably not an issue for anyone who is there to enjoy the hiking/cycling opportunities in the area, but deserves a mention.
Such a peaceful little place- friendly, organised and clean. I loved having the kitchen facilities, and there are a number of great walks close by.
We went to a wedding at Hyde Barn and it was the cheapest nearby accommodation that we could find - much cheaper than a taxi home! We walked to the hostel at the end of the night - it was a bit of a trek up the hill but we made it! If you're in average shape then you could do the same - taxi's in Stow are few and far between after 8pm. The staff were friendly however I wouldnt have stayed for longer than one night.
We were on the top floor and because of the low eaves two of the single beds were actually mattresses on the floor - granted nothing can be done about the eaves but it would have been nice to have known beforehand - we were led to believe there would be 2 bunk beds. The other two single beds were fine but the mattresses weren't the same width as the bed - a bit odd and uncomfortable if you move around a lot in your sleep! The bathroom facilities were clean however the bedside table was stuffed full of food wrappers and rubbish.
Location and history of building
I love the old building! This is exactly why I stay in hostels. A different wonderful location every night. Not the same old boring hotel room. PLEASE DON"T CLOSE THIS HOSTEL!
There was nothing to dislike.
We went in the slow season, May, so it was not at all crowded and they gave my friend & I a room to ourselves, it was great. Breakfasts are worth it too.
I heard they are closing this location at the end of 2014.
Some of the staff, especially the women, were exceptionally helpful. Another employee, young man, was very helpful when there was a problem with the well needed computer. The location and the fact that we had a room to ourselves was excellent. Thank you
I disliked the fact that a young employee, man, hadn't booked the breakfast we'd ordered; another time we had a problem with the computer and the obviously inexperienced young man didn't know what to do. And when I asked for the local police phone number because I'd just witnessed cruelty to a horse outside, not only didn't he have it and when he finally found it on the computer he rudely said he hadn't witnessed the incident, but also, when I asked him to write the number on the phone list on the wall for the hostel's own protection, he said he would do it later. It was then that I had to point out that for health and safety he should have the number and he only wrote it down in front of me after I threatened to report him. I was also sad to hear about the hostel's possible closure.
We had a fantastic dinner which was restaurant quality but didn't cost as much. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
We were really disappointed with the fact that we had booked a room with own toilet and shower, but the toilet was not actually located in the room but next door to it. This meant, other guests were also using it, we had to get dressed every time to use it during the evening/night and I did not feel I could leave my children to go to the toilet by themselves as they actually had to leave the room. Also, due to the old building it was very noisy when people were walking past our room and the whole bed moved each time, which made it difficult to sleep. Then after an unplanned (and unwanted) late night, we were woken up by road sweeper which went passed our window 3 times (!!!) at 6.30am.
Location is excellent and prices is well worth it for a comfortable bed. Self catering facilities were excellent but also operate a restaurant.
The showers were the push button type (that only stay on for about 8 seconds) and the dry area in the shower booth did not stay very dry. But managable....I've had worse!
A Great Inexpensive Place to stay and The Staff are SO Obliging!
Staff, facilities, value for money
liked it all
Location, helpful friendly staff and great facilities
The location is terrific, as is the price. I am so sad to hear that you are closing - I would have stayed with you again on future visits and definitely recommended you to friends.
