Too far away from South Downs Way Too long way to the shop after days walk No breakfast, nothing to buy Compared to b&b places, expensice taking into the service level No towels Bad signing from south downs way
Friendly, helpful staff. Quiet location. This is a hostel not a hotel so don't expect to be waited on. A whole different experience that I enjoyed
Small shop low on stock, (it was the end of season). Nowhere in the village to buy provisions. Nearest pub 2 miles away. Not really negatives if you drive there but I was cycling
Warm, clean bed, lovely countryside. Great place to stop if you're cycling
The surroundings are amazing.
Facilities and cleanliness is basic. Price point is a bit high for location/ammenities.
Location is the best
Privacy in bathroom
Great remote location, friendly staff, basic accommodation, really nice place....
Friendliness of Mike and Wendy who were running the yha that week - keep up the good work!
Few local amenities. Great for local walks, cycling etc. but an expensive (£30-60 depending on time of day) taxi ride to/from Brighton.
Great scenery around the hostel! Tranquility.
The couple who were running the YHA Telscombe on 26-04-14 were VERY friendly and helpful. Beautiful location.
Could do with a bit of paint. A bit more privacy in the bathroom (door didn't have a lock)
It's a unique, historic, beautiful, friendly place to stay, old flint cottages off the beaten track in a tiny village in the south downs with a church dating back to the 10th century - thanks to Ambrose Gorham who bequeathed his estate in 1933 for all to enjoy the peace and tranquillity in perpetuity...
Quiet surroundings and proximity to the Newhaven ferry.
Ipthere were convenient kitchen facilities, including a large fridge for use by guests. The rooms were very small and the bunk beds were a bit squeaky - my 15 yr old didn't feel very safe on the top bunk. We arrived in the dark and had some difficulty finding the hostel, as did other cycling guests whose Sat. Nav. had taken them through brambles and lanes. The two temporary wardens were very friendly and welcoming and helpful. We wouldn't return as for a one night ferry stop it was a bit out of the way and we didn't get the best night's sleep to prepare for a long drive through France. But I guess I should have thought of that before booking a hostel.
Good atmosphere and friendly team as soon as I walked in. Not too busy so space to spread out and got a lower bunk. Quiet location.
Was not easy to find as checked the site map and followed from the seashore road BUT no road or YHA signage and final stretch of road across a farmers field and he has gated it; fortunately a local knew of the hostel and gate issue, long standing, and re-directed me. Good to flag up on site map to approach from Lewes side roads.
Really cheap. Clean. Well situated for making use of Newhaven ferry port. Being run by a family of volunteers when we arrived who were really friendly & helpful.
