The breakfast lady !!! She gave us a wonderful 'Yorkshire welcome'. She is a gem. She has a smile and a kind word for everyone. And a lovely cooked breakfast.Tk you. Cheap and ugly 'supermarket style' furniture that rocks sideways and look as though it would fall apart with a gust of wind. It is a shame because that is not difficult to change. The room was v small but could be made more inviting v easily. For 70 pounds a night, I expected something a bit better. But then York is outrageously expensive so it would seem, this is what you get. The curtains have no light-proof lining so you wake up with the sun at around 5.30am.

breakfast, very easy to find and book ahead using internet, close enough to railway station room very cramped, not the best choice of furniture or bathroom fittings, eg basin almost to small to get a mug under the tap to fill up the kettle, and the space saved by having microbasin not used. Shelf under mirror made it almost impossible to clean teeth into basin. A number of small things that structured thinking about how the room would be used could have improved the user experience

Warm, pleasant and hsopitable. Clean and well presented. 15 minutes walk to the station and about 12 minutes to the Minster. Unfortunately I had some noisey neighbours and it was only a partition wall so second nights sleep was interrupted.

The staff were very friendly and helpfull. My compliments to them. The owner/manager were not friendly at all - very formal. This is what one expects of a hotel, not a guest house.
