Score from 114 reviews Very good
25-minute walk from town centre with reasonable bus service up to 8 o'clock at night. Friendly staff and good choice of breakfasts.
Had a deluxe room which was dominated by a four-poster bed that restricted the space, felt a little cramped, in contrast to the large bathroom.
Room was huge
Points for best western could not be collected as I booked through booking. Com and paid more than I would have had I gone direct
The staff are welcoming, friendly and efficient. The hotel is comfortable and charming and the breakfast was great.
Charming decor, wonderful breakfast, helpful staff, overall atmosphere of the hotel
Nothing to dislike, but lack of wifi in our bedroom rather a nuisance.
The hotel is very quaint and the staff were very friendly and professional ,despite the hotel being very busy staff took time to ensure that we were happy with our stay. The hotel has plenty of character and it is a shock when you realise just how many rooms are tucked away.
The bed was very comfortable
Only wifi in public areas
Very friendly, helpful staff. We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel. The food was good and the service excellent. Would definitely stay again.
Almost everything. Vary welcoming, will stay again.
Maybe bath could have been cleaner.
This hotel is on the bus route into York town centre and there is a lovely riverside walk if you are feeling fit. Hotel is small and cosy with friendly staff. Breakfast was excellent
Location to York very good number 7 bus just outside.
Suffered with wifi in room 58.
My cousins Richard and Jackie copeland had there wedding reception weekend 7th February we came up from Hampshire. My husband and I stayed two nights we had a small room the room was warm clean shower was lush.. Had a moaning heating noise but we still slept well the wedding reception was amazing staff were great service was spot on on the ball with water and wine they all worked so hard breakfast was great too Well done to you all
Only the boiler noise
Staff were excellent, Hotel had a very nice feel to it. No complaints :)
Convenient for the Uni as we were visiting our son as well as having a mooch around York. Very friendly staff with good recommendations for local facilities. Quiet, comfortable room considering there was a wedding going on and we were not disturbed. Good breakfast. All in all a great stay and we will come again.
A bit of a musty, damp smell in the bathroom. Car park very busy.
Charming staff great breakfast cosy room
Ambience, decor and cuisine
Beautiful hotel in a beautiful location. Brilliant value for money and would highly recommend.
Room was comfortable as was the mattress. Breakfast was good plenty of it.
Thought the breakfast was expensive and adding a £5 per tray for room service was disappointing too.
Everything the hotel was lovely. The staff were extremely friendly. The was an xams party on that we was a bit concerned about but we didnt here a thing. Breakfast was lovely. We will definitely be staying here again on our next trip to york.
Good location not too far from York city centre. Excellent room service. Will definitely stay here again
The only downside will be the fact that we could not adjust the central heating but we just left a window slightly open to compensate.
From start to finish we enjoyed our stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Good breakfast.
The fact that we only stayed one night!
Although this hotel isn't inside York wall, I think its well worth coming too. It is spacious, pleasant, and quiet. Easy to get too, probably wouldn't cost that much by taxi from the centre. I would come here again (especially as I have stayed in some awful places in York). The breakfast was excellent and plentiful in both quantity and variety (get it with the room it's worth it here). The hotel is very pretty especially when decorated for Christmas, though as parking gets a bit higgledy piggledy after a while I wouldn't get there too late otherwise you might have to park nearby, though they probably aren't always that fully booked also not that many hotels in your have any parking at all so it was good this one did. We had a room with two single beds which were very comfy when compared to allot of hotel beds. The room was nice, the wifi strong, ok tv with a variety of channels. The windows open (we kept our wine cold out of the window), the heating was very toasty (but could have been reduced with the window easily if we wanted too). We didn't eat dinner at the hotel, we went to the pub that's very close on the opposite side. This was very tasty and a pretty pub, we almost didn't get a table though though pretty busy here too. The hotel looked a little bit to fancy for us to dine in to be honest however the prices weren't too bad. Though it also looked very busy.
Bit of a winding route to get to the room but this was only a tiny minor thing, this was mainly due to the hotel being an old pretty building with character and you can't have one without the other and I would have rather had it old and pretty. Parking isn't quite enough for everyone to have a normal space I don't think, we didn't get there that late at all (late afternoon) and we got the last standard space. After that it was a bit of a free for all and I can foresee if you go out later and coming back having trouble or maybe being traped in an area, though we were fine when we left. This hotel is a bit pricy (£135per night) (though allot cheaper than some in York), however we didn't book that far in advance, it was a very busy Christmas shopping weekend in York, booking was at 95% taken all over when I booked, the hotel is a nice above average hotel. I think it was worth the price to be honest and I am a bit of a hotel cheapskate. None of these things would stop me coming to this hotel again.
The welcome we received from all staff, including the manager, was warm and genuine- a reflection of this hotel's unique character and attention to detail. The rooms are individual, (thank goodness!), this is not a Travel Lodge/Premier Inn - It's a lot more though - and for a similar price! The evening meal was very good and nicely presented and served. Breakfast was part self service/part table service and offered numerous options - very flexible! Rooms to the rear and/or facing the courtyard are generally quieter. In summary, we couldn't fault it!
We could not fault this hotel or location. Especially because it had a four poster bed... amazing...
