Rooms good, owners friendly and helpful! Free breakfast- quiet location
Shower to small
Small and a short walk into the town
Bathroom - light didn't work for 2 days and shower was poor
The hotel is very clean and very nice decorated. The swimming pool is great, flowers all around, staff very helpful, very good location (quiet and relaxing), nice view (the sea and the mountains), breakfast, wifi access. What else can you wish for?
Kamari was a great location as a base. Hotel Castro was a basic Greek hotel with a great pool. It was clean and the owners/ family were very pleasant and friendly. The breakfast although typical in content was basic, adequate albeit a little uninspiring, but we got a great bargain deal so we had no reason to complain.... The family are building a new hotel next door.. we wish them every success with there new venture, they deserve it.
We accept we got a bargain price, but had it been 'normal rate' We would have liked to have fresh fruit instead of tinned pineapple everyday which was supplemented with say some grapes or an apple. Meat (processed spicy luncheon meat type), processed cheese slices and hard boiled eggs... with the usual cake and biscuits and white sliced bread for toast. The optional local bread was good as was the fig jam when available. Fruit juice poor... more like squash. Would have loved a kettle in the room to make a drink in view of the fact that there are no cafes nearby. Beds and pillows hard. All said we had a lovely holiday and we would return.
People Location Easy to get around
Well, to be honest, I didn't like anything...
We could hear everything from the other rooms, including the snoring guy. The breakfast was terrible and the place is old and out-dated. Very expensive for the conditions offered
room excellent quality very nice people, but ... see - side excellent, quiet, airco.
breakfast, orange "drink", rather than orange "juice"; no whole wheat bread, only boiled eggs no transfer to/from port seem to think quality building makes luxery hotel
Pool, rooms with balcony
The hotel is run as a family business and hence doesn't offer yet all the equipments and services you could expect from a hotel in the same range of prices.
Clean, Staff helpful, Good Pool
Very dated decor, strong smell of cleaning products, no atmosphere, 15 mins walk from the beach, rooster calls at dawn
Pool was very nice. The room (after a change) was Good.
Breakfast : it was between 7 and 10. So, on holiday - people come for breakfast after 9. But at 9.30 ham or cheese were already eaten and the staff didn't put other on buffet. So, there was only choco and jam. Not a lot of choice.
Nice pool; Close to bus stop to Fira; Quiet area.
No shuttle service to-from airport and/or port. Low quality breakfast.
The staff (family) were very helpful in all needs. We stayed in the newer part of the hotel wch was excellent with great facilities and it was like a one b/r apartment. A bit of a walk to the beach but of a night it was good to have a bit of a walk back home. Good pool and never too crowded, it was actually good to be in a quiet area for a change. No problems with the street lights if you took the right track home. Gave a good look at the more non touristy bits when walking in day time so no problems.
Security lights a the night time in the room are too bright bit I slept well regardless. Breakfast was good but a bit crowded. This may be fixed when the next door extension is complete.
The hotel was clean and comfortable. Short walk from the beach (10 mins) which meant it was nice and quiet. Family who runs the hotel were very helpful and accommodating. The maid was very thorough and did an excellent job. It was really easy to get a taxi there from the airport
Only one key for the room.
Castro Hotel is excellent, really it is. I've been home 1 day and have already made bookings for July 2015 and September 2015. Some reviews mention the remoteness of the place - absolute rubbish. It's a ten minute walk to the beach and main seafront area, less if you just want to go into the town/village. It's actually that little walk that makes Castro perfect - close enough to be convenient, but far away enough to avoid the hussle and bussle of a busy holiday town. The hotel itself is great - typically Greek so simple in its layout and features, but spotlessly clean and very well maintained. Of course if you have luxury expectations, then you've booked the wrong place, but if you want comfort, cleanliness, convenience, and value, then this is for you. And don't believe what some reviews say about breakfast ! It's typically Greek/Continental and is a wonderful way to start the day - if you want a fry up, go to any of the local restaurants who will oblige for a reasonable price. We were perfectly happy with our breakfast ! The staff are charming - they are all family, and you quickly get included in their daily lives if you want to be - if not, they'll leave you alone. Very helpful indeed and always completely courteous, they are one of the main reasons we're looking to go back again, and again. And the owner's home made wine and fig jam are just unbelievable. Santorini itself has rapidly become my favourite Greek island, and I have to say that Kamari was definitely the nicest place to be based. And Castro was just perfect for us - great pool, didn't see more than 10 people use it at once while we were there, sunbeds and the comfiest deck chairs I've ever used. In short, fantastic place, and I can't wait to go back - July 2015 can't come quick enough.
Nothing, absolutely nothing. This really was a fantastic location.
It is a family owned place and very comfy. Personnel goes beyond themselves to make you feel comfortable.
There is no elevator, but I didn't look for one. At this point I was already tired from all the other places I was at.
