I stayed four nights at the Congo Palace in Glyfada (seaside) area because it was peaceful and convenient - away from the downtown area which had major demonstrations at the beginning of November 2011. Glyfada has many nice restaurants, stores (high-end), banks, and mobile centers. The Airport Express 96 bus costs only 5 euro and takes about 25 minutes to reach Stasi Antonopoulos (the bus stop which is right in front of the hotel). The tram to downtown (takes about 1 hour) is only two blocks away. And the bus terminal and taxi queue at Glyfada Square are also nearby. In addition, there are many buses that stop in front of the hotel. The reception area is spacious with a bar, seating, and wide- screen tv. Wireless access in the lobby is free. All the staff I met (Christina, Antonis, Eleni, and Angelos) were cheerful, helpful, and went the extra mile to assist. (E.G., I had a courier service pick up a packet to take to the Children's Art Museum downtown. Antonis signed for me and promptly gave me my receipt.) The dining hall for breakfast (7-10 am), overlooking an enclosed patio with the outdoor pool, offered a very good buffet. The elevators to the room were clean, modern with a digital voice announcing each floor in Greek and English. I liked my room with the balcony overlooking the pool because it was quiet (away from noisy Poseidonos Street). The non-smoking room had a double bed, digital safe, tv, desk with two chairs, chest of drawers, and bathroom with tub/shower in marble. Because I stayed off-season (after October 15th), I paid an excellent rate for the room. The weather was nice and the walk to the nearby seaside and harbor was inspirational, watching the sunset. I'm happy that the Congo Palace Hotel met all my expectations, and I would highly recommend this hotel to others. I usually stay in downtown Athens, but I plan to stay here in the future. Euxaristw, Congo Palace! Not much to complain about. I hope the hotel will provide more than four hangers in the closet.

My transfer didn't show up, I rang the hotel to ask them to send a car, instead the man yelled at me and told me to catch a bus - the bus didn't show for an hour and a half then the bus driver told me I was on the wrong bus. So again I rang the hotel and he continued to yell at me then hung up. Worst service. Would not recommend to anyone!

This hotel is in a good location for people wishing to stay in the Glyfada district. It is a fairly basic hotel with no pretensions but it provides everything you need and is great value for money. There is a sheltered pool for leisure travellers to relax by and it is really close to all the good parts of Glyfada, with loads of restaurants and a tram that will take you to central Athens. I've stayed in much nicer hotels in Glyfada but they are 3 times the price and I've stayed in some real fleapits for more than this hotel charges. The service is friendly and the man at the front desk is really entertaining in a Fawlty Towers kind of way! If I return to Athens I would be happy to stay here again. There's nothing to complain about really. The decor is pretty tired once you leave the ground floor but for the price you shouldn't expect any different.

It's a good location if you want to be in the Glyfada area. The rates are reasonable. The reception area is welcoming and looks far more upmarket than the rest of the hotel. My ironing board would have been softer to sleep on than the beds! The breakfast, although included in the price, is fairly woeful. There is no hotel parking, which can be a problem in the evenings as it is in a very busy area.

I thought the decor of reception and dining areas was quite nice, but unfortunately the same decor was not reflected in the rooms! The buffet breakfast, even though there was not a great variety, nontheless everything that was available was quite good! The room was very small, had asked for 2 separate beds, the 2 beds stuck together! The furniture in the room was either broken or run down, broken panels in the ceiling! There were smells coming from the bathroom, and smells from the ceiling that resembled cooking from the kitchen! No tea and coffee facilities!

The rooms were spacious and the location was great for shopping or dining or walking on the beach. The price was very reasonable and the breakfast buffet was excellent. The rooms smelled of smoke and the carpets had seen better days, also when I checked my final bill at home there was an extra 200/min 10.00 euro internet charge on it that I did not notice when I was checking out. I had only purchased a 90/min 5.00 euro card which was on the bill. I am hoping that this was a genuine error.

The hotel is within walking distance of a variety of different shops, nice restraunts and nightlife. The area is safe and felt compfortable walking around at night alone. The rooms are in need of some updating with a little luxery and better fixtures and fitting. There was no internet during my sta and the receptionist did not seem to care at all.
