Arethusa Hotel is centrally located next to Plaka, the scenic Old Town of Athens and stands within 165 ft from the Syntagma Metro Station. It has breakfast and air-conditioned rooms with free Wi-Fi.
Score from 1794 reviews Good
Good hotel in the heart of Athens, great views of the Acropolis, either from your balcony (if lucky to be in the higher rooms) or through its open rooftop or bar.
This hotel provides all we need for a reasonable night-stop in Athens. It is close to Monaistiraki metro station (access to/from airport) - it is opposite to a reasonable Greek food outlet (so you need never be hungry) - the hotel has been updated (improved) over the last few years - it is comfortable, with staff friendly and free use of a computer in the lobby (together with free printing facilities - superb for printing airport boarding passes) and it is central to everything in Athens.
The local area appears a bit 'rough' (but we will continue to use as our Athens 'hotel of preference' as the hotel represents good value for money and convenience)
This hotel is super clean, very comfortable, bargain priced and in an excellent location. The staff is especially helpful. Some people have complained about the rundown street immediately to the east of the hotel. If, when you exit the hotel, you turn left instead of right, and then left again at the first street, you walk through a much nicer area to Monastiraki. I like this hotel.
Slippers and bath curtain needed
the parking is not safety, thieft is everywhere
lots of little shops near by selling interesting things and not the usual tourist stuff . Nice places to eat as well.
The charm of the area is somewhat destroyed by graffiti: At night, when most shops are closed the area looks really run down largely due to the massive amount of grafitti
Large rooms, a very comfy bed, great wifi, delicious buffet breakfast, lovely view of the Parthenon, large balcony with outdoor setting.
Thr staff, location and breakfast are great!
The free WiFi is ok, but a lot of the times no connection for hours in the evenings. The explanation of man of reception was that a lot of people are connencted and there is no for everyone. I think they must change it and to have connection all the time!
We felt so lucky to find Evripides. Perfect base to discover Athens. Really kind reception and bar members, warm welcome and clean rooms. Free parking place in front of the hotel made our life so easy. Thank you Evripides!
the receptionist staff is very helpful (Special thanks to Mr Panos), convenient location near monastiraki square, relaxing bed, good wifi signal at the reception place
low wifi signal inside the rooms, no curtain for shower
Very pleasant hotel in an interesting area (Psirri, close to Monastiraki). My room had Acropolis view from its balcony, all for about 32 euros a night.including breakfast. Easy to walk to main tourist sights but not in a touristy area - mostly small shops, markets.
- I booked this as a place I needed to stay in transit. It turned out to be a very good choice. - It is a really friendly place, feeling like a family-run hotel (I don't know if it is). - You can leave luggage there all day; it's no problem. - 25 mins from the port at Piraeus; 15 mins to entrance of Acropolis, 10 mins to National Archaeological Museum - It is simple, clean and some rooms (on 6th floor) have larger balconies.
At first it does not look like the best of areas but it is not bad really and you can get everywhere quickly.
good location near main sights
Quiet, clean, good location. Second time I stayed there & will stay again.
Wi-Fi is a bit wobbly but nothing I could not live with.
If you are looking for a relatively cheap, comfortable and inexpensive hotel, Hotel Evripides is ideal for your short term accomodation in central Athens. Especially Psiri area, where you can enjoy night life and bars, clubs restaurants and sweet people to meet, is very close to the hotel. The area where the hotel is located is a local trading center, which seems deserted after the working hours. Don't worry! Nothing happens. It is quiet safe. It's a walking distance from the Plaka area and the Monastraki Metro Station, where you can reach anywhere you like. Downtown Athens is itself good for walking! People are all almost English speaking and very helpful. I salute all the Greek friends and lovely people! Damn with the politics! Don't believe them, which have made us apart for ages! There is a lot to discover in both of us! Come enjoy our countries and cultures. I have felt as a stranger and a foreigner in Greece; Athens and Thessalonica and other towns.. Thessalonica is so sweet!
It was all Greek to me! Why not use the Latin versions of all the writings and notices though it is comparatively widespread! The city might be more clean, which I don't care at all. The metro cars might be renewed in the future. Hotel Evripides should have the shower heads hanged on the wall instead of freely used with one hand holding it and getting washed with the other. In addition, please cover the shower with a cabin. We are naked in the middle of the bathroom! The breakfast is comparatively good, but the lady in charge is great! Why not increase the food quality a bit! Despite everything, having been to Greece for a short time was great! I will visit the city once again in a longer period!
Nice view from the terrace on the roof. The location is perfect to do all the sightseeing of the most important places in Athens and there are some good and cheap restaurants nearby. Staff is very helpfull. Clean room, good venue for breakfast.
Breakfast is not so luxurious. Room does need some extra touch to make it cosier and are a bit small. Just the basic inside. Location of the hotel is in a dilapidated area of Athens.
Nice and cooperative staff. Located near historical places and also not far from metro station.
I don't see anything negative except that they really need to talk to their internet provider for continuous provision of internet connection. It was not the problem of WIFI (you are always get connect to local network), however you do not get connected to the internet.
Stayed for 4 nights in a twin room on 3rd floor (7 floors in total). Good sized room with an ensuite bathroom. Bathroom was ok, shower is an attachment to a bath and no shower curtain so have to be careful not to flood the floor. It's in a pretty good location in regards to sites to see and transport links. A lot of the main attractions in Athens are all within a miles walk. To get from the airport you can take X95 bus to Syntagma Square which is €5 each, then it's a 15-20 minute walk from there or can take a taxi (not sure of price). Other option is the metro which you can take directly from the airport to Omonia (which costs €8 each) then a 10 minute walk to hotel. The breakfast was very good which was served every morning on 7th floor, great selection of things available - 3 types of Cereals, croissants and 4 different types of breads with jams, honey and nutella. Fresh fruits, 3 different types of ham and cheese. Also teas/coffees and juices. Wifi was ok most of the time, few times it wouldn't connect (reception said this normally happened when there were thunderstorms and heavy rain which we had during our stay in Athens). Overall, I would recommend Evripides Hotel itself but if you are put off by the idea of a bad looking area and prefer a nicer area then I'd say to look elsewhere.
The beds did get quite annoying sometimes because they moved on the floor a lot when you moved as they had wheels. I don't really have anything negative to say about the hotel itself because everything was fine. The area the hotel is in on the other hand is not the best. We did read other reviews on here of hotel so we went there expecting a pretty bad looking area and that's exactly what it is. Graffiti on pretty much everything, bordered up shops/buildings, some very dodgy looking people. We had no problems when there and felt quite safe while walking in the area despite others on here saying they had experienced trouble.
5 min to metro direct to airport lots of shops, basars, restaurants etc. and akropolis
one room was noisy. very weak water supply
It was a nice place. The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean. Not exceptional but nice.
The neighborhood was not great and they gave us two twin beds instead of a queen size bed. The beds didn't stay together
Breakfast, location, cleanliness, great service
Wifi was quite bad from inside the room.
the roof top view the buffet breakfast spread
the fact the AC was an added expense but not mentioned on the internet the bath...only half a bath actually the shower...showerhead and tube but no wall fixture the arguing in the street below the cleaners opening and banging doors at 8 am in the corridor the wifi connection was awfully poor the lack of interest of the receptionists...smiles but no assistance or suggestions or pleasure to serve attitude...
The staff were friendly and the room was pleasant and comfortable. The breakfast was varied and good value. Good location for the Plaka and nearby restaurants.
There was nothing to dislike about the hotel.
