Joanna will knock on your door and wake you up at 9am to clean the room and then complain if you ask her to come back. We asked for a late check out. She had the cheek to hunt us down to another taverna and demand the 20 euros whilst we were eating breakfast. We would never go back. Its a shame as the room and the location were fab.Joanna doesn't appreciate that a holiday is exactly that. Try Stenna down the road. Basic, much cheaper but very peaceful and totally stress free!!

When I arrived shortly after 14:00 on Sunday, May 4th (as I had informed them that I would), I found a chalk board notice informing me which my room was. I eventually found a young English woman in the bar area, who said that she hadn't yet started working at the apartments, but who did show me where my room was. Never, in many years of visiting Greece and her islands have I NOT been welcomed in person by the owner or manager of the places where I have stayed. I was very disappointed to find, once I had unpacked, that (1) the promised wi-fi was not working - although the women said it might be working by the Wednesday. (2) the fan in my bathroom was not working - it should have started working when the light was switched on. (3) the main bedroom light fitting had a cracked part which not only made it unsafe, but it emitted a very unpleasant burning plastic smell. I subsequently did not use that light all week for fear that an electrical fire might result. (4) there was some problem with the toilet ballcock which meant that the toilet kept filling and not stopping unless I manually pulled the ballcock up. On Monday, May 5th I met a Greek lady whom I think was called Joanna. She never introduced herself so I had no idea what her status/role/job was in the Kontessa Apartments. Her English was not good and I had difficulty finding out exactly what was wrong with the wi-fi. I mentioned the fact that the bathroom fan was not working, and this was fixed by the following day, but her English was not good enough for me to be able to explain about the light fitting nor the ballcock. She, or whoever cleaned my apartment (number 11), must have realised when she cleaned the toilet, that it was not stopping filling once flushed, but nothing was done about it.

The apartment was light and airy. The cleaning ladies were charming. The pool was great and there were plenty of sunbeds. The gardens were absolutely beautiful.

We were very disappointed with Kefalos. It was a dirty, scruffy little resort with a row of tacky bars and restaurants. The beach was dirty and looked like a building site and the road/promenade was broken. We stayed by the pool and then hired a car to get away and explore.

Excellent location in the heart of the village, close to the seafront and bars, cafes, restaurants and supermarket but still quiet. First floor rooms' balconies have seaview, ground floor access the poolside area. Rear terrace of apartment faces countryside. Large pool (20m) with plenty of sunloungers. Plenty of room in the large clean apartment which is simply furnished. Basically equipped kitchen with dining table. Cleaned most days. Kefalos is a quiet resort very suitable for older visitors who do not want noisy night clubs / bars. Great beaches. Best restaurant is Sebastians run by a wonderful friendly family. Great choice of food, huge portions and very reasonably priced. Start the day with their huge breakfast for €6.50!

As is common, there are additional charges for air conditioning - € 6 per night, room safe - € 10 per week late checkout - € 20 Cash only - no credit cards. Poolside bar is expensive. Unless you know beforehand, your allocated apartment is listed on a blackboard by the entrance steps.

We wanted a relaxing week away to catch some sun & chill & at Kontessa we got that in spades... Beautiful pool, in lovely location....

Kefalos is OK but mostly aimed at the "everything with chips" brigade. Good for a base to explore the island. Didn't like that Kontessa required a cash payment for the room instead of credit card as per usual. Also rather over enthusiastic owner/cleaner who didn't speak English !!
