We were travelling from another island and were arriving early evening via a ferry, opted to email ahead out of courtesy to let them know we will be arriving late at 5pm approximately.
We received a response the following morning, the day we were travelling to the hotel, with directions to the hotel, contrary to google maps which was a shortcut, and very convenient.
Although the hotel knew the timeframe of our arrival - there was no one present at the hotel to check us in. We called the number on the front door and the owner answered and arrived about ten minutes after our arrival. Could be inconvenient if your phone does not allow international calls.
The owner was pleasant on the initial meeting, and was helpful with us checking in, with the standard salutations; as well as explaining the great location of the hotel (can't be denied the location is fantastic as central in the town of Naxos) and discussed the roof garden available 24/7 to guests.
He requested to hold a passport for the duration of our stay - did not elaborate the reason for this. When questioned on it, tried to explain that everyone does this (we assumed security purposes). There was no reference of this prior to our stay that this was a requirement - it may be something that catches people off guard.
He brought us to our basement room. The owner continued to show us the room and how everything works - or the trick to the devices, as many of the devices did not work as one would expect. For example, the fan in the bathroom needs to be turned on and off and on again to work at minimal noise similar to a screech, which is still fairly loud.
He asked if it was ok at that point, and regrettably we answered yes it was ok. Live and learn.
The floors, bathroom, kitchenette, was cleaned to a lazy standard. There were clumps of hair spontaneously arriving across the floor, it also looked as if the floor had not been swept or mopped in a long time.
