Wonderfull appartments with a great view and huge balconys. It is in fact as great as it looks at the photos! If you walk into town you can walk a little up the hill where the hotel lies and then continue on the back-roads untill you reach the city park. Much nicer walk! Good thing about the location is that you are out of the busy tourist area and in a quiet residential area. If you walk/drive west along the mainroad there are really great restaurants by the sea. Only negative thing is walk into town. The main road is very busy and you walk on the street. It does however seem they are building pavements along some of the road.

The appartament was really nice, with beautiful sea views. The only thing we didn't like was that the wifi didn't work fine in our appartment.

Very clean, very comfortable rooms. Friendly staff especially the bar staff around the pool. Steps and slope up to the reception doors was very steep and absolutely dangerous when wet. The bath leaked from the base and left the floor swimming of an evening.

I think the friendly and help full staff were one off the best things about the hotel, the hotel is self is well renovated. Yes I would recommend it BUT.. You have to bee aware that there beach is not in walking reach, you have to have a car. The gym and the in door swimming pool is not done yet and there is no spa facilities/services as massages etc.

Amazing sea views (and sunsets) from the spacious terrace. The apartments were large and well-equipped - everything was recently renovated. The staff are very welcoming and helpful (especially Dinos and Christine). The location is good, but the photos might be a little misleading...the sea is about 70 meters from the hotel, but you must cross a busy road and there is no real beach, just rocks. We were fine with this, but it's worth mentioning. We rented a car for the duration of our stay, as there was a taxi strike, and Macaris served as a great base to explore the island. The hotel is just outside the center of Rethymno, but it's an easy walk to Old Town where you'll find plenty of shops, restaurants, night life etc. This is no fault of the hotel's, but the sidewalks on the busy road that lead to town are under construction, and it can be a little tricky navigating the traffic - we had to cross and re-cross the road in several places. I imagine that in a month or two this won't be a problem. The hotel's pool area can be quite crowded. On most days, all lounge chairs had been reserved by 9:30am and stayed occupied until about 5pm. This didn't really bother us, as we spent most of our time exploring different parts of the island, but if you plan to stay at the hotel during the day you should make sure to wake up early.

Everything! The rooms were sleek and luxurious. The beds were incredibly comfortable--the most comfortable beds we were on during our entire trip in Greece. Upon our arrival we found complimentary wine, fruit plate, and water. In particular, on concierge was incredibly helpful with directions--we rented a car to explore the island--and any other questions we had along the way. Breakfast service was good and the pool side was gorgeous. The entire stay was incredible. We decided to pay a bit extra and it was well worth it. If you can afford it, stay here! The hotel, while beautiful inside and out, is in the middle of a lot of on-going construction. The roads around the hotel are not the prettiest site--this didn't affect the quality of our stay, but it was noticeable.

We were very pleased and did not realize it was a suite that we were getting with kitchen, living room and awesome bathroom and bedroom. The view was so outstanding of the beach and very close to town and bus station. The pool and bar were very good. Breakfast was outstanding.

Nice Views, comfortable beds and spacious suites. Staff very friendly. We booked the hotel as it had an indoor pool and Spa as advertised, but neither were built! Very disappointed as the weather wasn't great. We felt we had paid for the facilities but they were not available.

The suites themselves were of a good size, clean, modern and with a well equipped kitchen. The pool was always quiet during our stay - almost like our own private pool on most days. The Greek salad on the menu was very good. There is no Spa, plain and simple! The "beach" is the sorriest excuse for a beach and no one in the right mind would spend any time on it. Dirty, litter strewn sand, graffiti covered walls - stay by the pool! The location of the hotel is a 10-15 minute walk from the old town and it's bars and restaurants. As others have mentioned, this is along a busy main road with pavement work underway and not looking like being completed anytime soon. The hotel breakfast was poor - we only bothered going the once. The hairdryer is located in the bathroom (and not very powerful) - this means one person can't dry their hair whilst the other is in the shower as it's too steamy/damp - take your own.

the flat is beautifully designed - price quality was exeptional, rooms are spacious and the view is spectacular. Next door's best in town fish restaurant did make our stay perfect. look forward to come back and test the spa the dust in the flat - did not really fit with a five star hotel. The lift next to the appartment was very noisy.

The hotel is situated at the west end of the city a few meters above the central road, which is convenient. Just a couple of kilometers from the city center, and only a short drive to the nationla road. Rooms are spacious and have very large balconies with view. Cleaningless is at high standards. Hotel staff is very polite. Swimming pool is nice but not big enough. Generally it is an excellent choice as a city hotel, if you dont mind drive a few minutes to the center (or take the bus). Breakfast is ok, but could be richer and better.

The staff were very nice and helpful. They helped with giving directions to places around Rhythmnon. The hotel is very family friendly. The jacuzzi was a nice touch. The hotel staff opened the sofa in the living room to turn it into a bed for our girls- good value for money. The view of the sea from the sitting area was amazing. The pictures on website are not exactly what tge hotel looks like. Tge furnishings are old especially the television sets. Our bedding was not changed just turned. The gym Had very limited equipment, was not in use more than half the time we stayed there. Tge tines for tge gym and swimming pool were very limiting, opened late morning and closed early. The food at tge restaurant was tge same every morning. Parking is a problem.

Amazing views of the sea even from inside the apartment (we stayed on the 7th floor),Macaris most probably offers the best private hotel verandas in Rethymno! The rooms are very modern, comfortable and well equipped. Good international breakfast with local tastes. Despite what we had been "promised" when booking (we called the manager), once we checked-in we found out that the -otherwise very contemporary and modern-apartment was equipped with two small screen and very old tv sets (the kind that one only finds in cheap hotels/rented rooms, definitely not in a 4 star at 160 euros/night!). However, once we complained they replaced them with two larger LCDs on the next morning.

The apartment was well equiped and spacious. The balcony was spacious with excellent views of the sea and the fort. Good buffet breakfast with lots of choice. Great place to explore places of interest and beaches of western and central Crete. If going back to Crete will stay here again. The beaches close by are limitted, small and not very clean although the apartments are only 15 to 20 minutes walk from main beach at Rethymno.

Pool, staff and suites were all excellent. The attention to detail on facilities was very high. Although they call it Macaris Suites and Spa, the Spa is no where near finished.

The beach front location and views to the sea and old town are very attractive. The apartments are spacious with large, sea view terraces. Parking for our hire car was not a problem. The Macaris is not a well run hotel. The reception staff with one exception are rude and not interested. The remaining staff, Rumainian students, are willing but not experienced. Breakfast is boring and repetitive. The pool is small and there are very few sun beds for the number of guests. There are no meals available evening time. Cleaning is haphazard - twice we had to call as there was no toilet paper in our room! We did discover what we believe is the reason for this style of operation. The apartments are actually for sale to private investors and therefore this is actually a property operation and not a hotel! For the price this represents very poor value for money.
