The Westin Athens, Astir Palace Beach Resort  

I am an Athens local who was lured to stay because of the fantastic off- season room rate, but once there was disappointed at how many services/facilities came with a hefty price tag. For example, although it was winter and it was not possible to use the outdoor pool, all guests had to pay 25 euros to use the indoor pool. And while the room came with breakfast included, it was not specified until check in that this would only be a continental breakfast and that there would be an additional charge for hot items. I had just come from a hotel of this 5 star calibre in Barcelona which offered all these services as part of the room rate, so felt Astir did not offer great value for money by comparison.

The hotel is located within a resort on the Athens Riviera with wonderful views from your hotel room. The rooms are clean, spacious and the facilities offered at this resort are good. The food is fantastic with a good choice of dining available. Breakfast is also superb. The free shuttle bus into the city can save you around 50 Euros a day.

Whether you are dining through room service or at one of the restaurants, this is very expensive I.E. 8 Euros for 1 glass of orange juice. The other drawbacks at this hotel are the following: The kids club is not free for guests staying at the hotel and is expensive to use. The outdoor swimming pool is not heated so, if you find the water a bit cold and want to use the indoor pool, then this comes at a price and is not cheap. There are 2 beaches within this resort and both are very small and disappointing.

Staff were willing to accommodate reasonable requests and are fairly polite and helpful. The breakfast spread is excellent.

The resort is exclusive and if you are hoping to have friends over to see you in your hotel expect them to be charged during daytime even if they do not use the hotel facilities (such as the pool or the spa).

Great location by the beach, nice pool, excellent service you simply dont feel you are in busy athens but rather enjoying the mediterranean see.

excellent staff (gentle, discreet and kind). lady at the reception (I think Athina was her name) handled with utmost professionalism and efficiency a matter of double-reservation made by my mistake

- Delivery of service, if you asked for something you either have to wait for long time for it , call twice or get it yourself ( I already knew that from booking.com guest reviews). - Facilities are shared between this hotel and the next one Arion and you have to walk for that ; e.g. Gym is in the Westin and the SPA is in Arion. The way is very dark at night. -I booked for deluxe room, and got a room that is far away and recently painted ( smell of paint still there). Staff does not know about it.Then, had to upgrade to higher category. - Hotel's beach is far too small.

The situation of the hotel is wonderful. we had a sea wiev room, the hotel bars and restaurants are so good. specially italian restaurant was very good. the staff is so polite and helpfull. I'll advice to all my friends this hotel and i hope to return again. thank you.

we liked everything at the hotel. the room and bathroom also the balcony with sea wiew. The only thing that i would like to have at the room is a boiler for making tea or cofee at room by ourselves. All the hotels like this quality have this opportunity. This is a little request but is very useful for the guests.

Sunsets from the "Sofa Bar", or from the balcony of your room, are absolutely extraordinary!!!!

Service was very good - once received - but wait and bar staff seemed to take a while to acknowledge and then to respond to you.... But they were all very friendly and very nice.

Beautiful high standard hotel view a wonderful sea view and fantastic spa facilities

SPA is extra charged. 25 EUR per person for each entrance. I wasn't informed about that by booking .com nor the hotel. After my complain, the staff was very nice and we didn't pay for SPA at the end. But normally it is the extra cost. Kids are allowed in the SPA only between 9 am - 2 pm.
