Located in the plain of Omalos, at 1,050 metres above sea level, the 2-star hotel Neos Omalos features a traditional restaurant, and offers rooms with view of Lefka Ori Mountain. N.O. is ideally positioned for outdoors folk beginning a trek into the Lefka Ori or the Samaria Ravine. Friendly staff, good food, decent beds. Re the disaffected gentleman from Cambridge who didn't get his request for an early ride to Xyloskala: İf you are of the herd, stay with the herd. İf not, walk to Xyloskala. İt's five easy kms.

This was our favourite hotel of the 5 we stayed at during our tour of Crete. The owner of the hotel picked us up for free from the top of the nearby Samaria Gorge and brought us to the hotel. The room was simply but prettily decorated, the staff are all very attentive and helpful, the water pressure was great and the temp was easy to control. The air is drier and cool in the mountains even for our visit in August, so there was no need for air conditioning. We slept with the door to our balcony open and heard the jingling of bells on goats all night. It was lovely. The restaurant food was good, unremarkable--very much had a home cooking feel to it--but the local wine was delicious. There is a little dog that apparently belongs to the hotel. He played fetch with the waiter after his shift and was generally adorable. For travelers, the bus stop is right across the street from the hotel. Super convenient. No complaints here!

It's location near the top of Samaria Gorge and the walk up Gingilos Mountain. The efficient lift at 7.30 a.m., getting us to the gorge before tourist coaches arrived. (the couple of groups who beat us, we passed on the walk into the gorge, so were able to enjoy our walk without hoards of others) The hotel is a lovely mountain chalet with good views of the surrounding countryside. We are vegetarian and altho' the staff were very happy to accomodate us, we did have some slightly strange meals.

We enjoyed a lovely vacation cared by the staff of the hotel as family. Fresh mountain air, splendid views, quiet. Delicious fresh home made food, in abudance. Real people, very friendly, no fuss for late arrival or early start. Food and drinks available at any time. Truly a great vacation to be recommended

Very friendly staff and pretty good food. Location is excellent for the mountain walking in the area. The hotel is showing its age in the design, fixtures and fittings. A lick of paint here and there wouldn't go amiss.

Equipe super sympa et serviable. Conseil: ne faites les gorges depuis Omalos que si vous faites l'aller retour car sinon vous risquez de rester coincés au bord de mer si les bateaux ne naviguent pas cause mer difficile et embarquement impossible. Le mieux c'est de prendre le matin le bateau à sougia pour agia roumeli et aller aux gorges qui sont alors qu'à 4 kms... puis retour bateau le fait de risquer d'être bloqué à agia roumeli car quai d'embarquement très sommaire...

Les clients viennent évidemment dans cet hôtel pour descendre les gorges de Samaria. Le patron, sympathique, est venu nous chercher à la fin de notre randonnée qui nous amenait à Omalos, le jour de notre arrivée. L'hôtel est une structure assez ancienne, particulièrement bruyante et sonore. S'il fallait revenir à Omalos, je privilégierais l'hôtel voisin (Axari), de type similaire, mais plus récent. Par ailleurs, nous avons commandé un pique-nique qui s'est révélé une arnaque : 5 euros pour un sandwich, une tomate, un oeuf dur et une pomme ! Ce ne sont absolument pas les prix pratiqués en Crète.

Emplacement parfait pour descendre aux gorges de Samaria, ils vous emmenent au départ le matin et viennent vous chercher en voiture à l'arret de bus le soir. Les repas sont aussi très bons et vraiment pas chers - que ce soit le diner ou le pique nique proposé pour la journée de descente des gorges. D'autres randonnées sont également possibles dans les environs. Personnel de l'hotel très sympa et de bon conseil. Très bonne adresse !

Het eten was erg lekker. Daarnaast was het fijn om een kamer te hebben met bad (met opgetrokken knieën, maar toch). De mensen waren aardig en gaven daar waar nodig adviezen over wandeltochten in de buurt.

Malgré un accueil et une restauration corrects,nous ne gardons pas un souvenir agréable de la nuit passée dans cet hotel beaucoup trop sonore, avec une literie très médiocre (notamment lit double).

L'hôtel est située à quelques minutes des Gorges de Samaria. Endroit de villégiature. Ordinateur à la disposition des clients. Belle chambre et très propre. On nous a préparé un lunch à apporter lors de notre trekking dans les Gorges de Samaria. La nourriture était décevante, surtout le petit déjeuner. Je me serais attendue à un petit déjeuner beaucoup plus copieux et contenant plus de protéines de manière à mieux entreprendre une journée de marche dans les Gorges de Samaria.

1) Buchung und Aufenthalt liefen unkompliziert und effektiv. 2) Neu: das Hotel bietet einen Transportservice für die Wanderung durch die Samaria-Schlucht: morgens vom Hotel zum Anfang der Schlucht, abends von der Haltestelle Petra Seli der Buslinie Sougia-Chania zurück zum Hotel. Dadurch konnten wir das Auto beim Hotel stehen lassen und kamen völlig problemlos wieder dorthin zurück.

Nous avions sélectionné cet Hotel pour faire la randonnée des gorges de Samaria et c'est exactement la bonne adresse. Ambiance bon enfant, grande tablées de randonneurs de toutes nationalités et vers 22h30 tout le monde au lit car le lendemain vers 7h commencent les départs en mini bus pour les fabuleuses gorges ! Les picnics fournis sont super pratiques et Georges le propriétaire est adorable. Au retour le minibus vient vous prendre à la sortie de bateau pour vous ramener à l'hôtel. Rien. J'aurais dû prendre deux nuits car reprendre la voiture après une journée aussi fatiguante c'était un peu dur.

pratique pour être à la première heure aux gorges de Samaria difficulté à obtenir le petit-déjeuner et le transfert vers le point de départ des gorges de Samaria tôt, avant l'arrivée des bus... or c'est précisément là, l'intérêt essentiel qui justifie de venir dormir à Omalos... Un petit effort à faire pour cette bonne adresse.

Personnel très serviable et accueillant. Chambres simples mais confortables, lumineuses et très propres. Cuisine traditionnelle à la terrasse. Parfait pour un camp de base dans les Montagnes Blanches.
