When we arrived in the afternoon, there was no one to check us in. I tried calling the hotel owner's cell phone several times, but he didn't answer. According to the owner of the bed & breakfast next door, this happens all the time and she often has to help guests of Hotel Ianthe track down the proprietor. We ended up waiting two hours before someone else showed up to check us into our room. A half-hour later, the owner showed up. He was unapologetic about the situation, even placing the blame on me for not informing him of our arrival time. He said he's only there until noon and I should have called to let him know we'd be arriving later. I countered that he was well aware that we had a reservation and should have been expecting us. And, I tried to call him, but he didn't answer his phone. Also, if it's his practice to only stay at the property until noon each day, he should warn guests about that. Furthermore, his neighbor says this is a common occurrence; one would think he'd take corrective action. In addition to the lack of personnel on the property, the "breakfast" included in the price of the room consists of store-bought bread and jam. That's it. Also, we had no hot water for the duration of our stay. But, because our water wasn't ice-cold either, we didn't complain.

As an architect I should appreciate this lovely restorated and needly decorated, a century old Hotel. With an additional hospitality and friendship of dear Giannis (the owner), it really makes you feel at home. The rooms are magnificent, and provide you unexaggerated, sufficiet comfort. Besides it offers you a good opportunity to live in a picturesque medieval settlement in present time. Instead of city noises or car horns, many birds are singing you a goodmorning song which are replaced with crickets in noon time, warning you about the nice summer day .!! As a common saying, ''you better taste it, and feel it''... Though location of hotel is very simple, you have to pay some attention to find it. But luckely the local people nearby are quite helpful and friendly. ( As you can discover from the winding road towards the town Vessa, it is the one and only blue building. )
