Right at the beach with very soft and comfortable private sun beds and a really nice pool with a nice bar/restaurant right at the beach. I had the top room on the roof with a nice large roof patio with ocean, beach and malia view. I needed internet access to finish work but some power outage destroyed the wlan in my room and it took 2 days to repair it. Wlan worked ok at the bar.

My boyfriend and I have just returned from a wonderful week at Parthenis Beach! Being our first time in Malia we were a little nervous of what to expect - but I swear this is the best hotel in the town - our nerves were very soon turned to excitment! Malia itself was quiet as the main season is in the summer - but this is just what we were looking for - it looked as though in the summer there would be swarms of party revellers - fun if that's what you're looking for but not for us this time round! We stayed in the suite which was a fantastic room (including a kitchen, spare twin room, bathroom and sitting/dining area) with a beautiful view over the sea which we enjoyed while sitting on the spacious balcony. This room would also be perfect for a family as there is ample space for more than just a couple. Parthenis the owner and his wife Eleanor were so welcoming and accomodating and they ran the hotel with effortless efficiency. I must also mention Marika who worked at the bar in the evenings - she never failed to have a smile on her face, even when we were still sat at the bar at 1 in the morning! We also visited Parthenis's restaurant Drossia 3 times during our stay. Again a really well run and slick establishment, with great food and attentive staff. The food in general was fantastic (including the breakfasts and lunches at the hotel) - we have returned happy and probably a few pounds heavier than we arrived!! Many thanks to Parthenis, Eleanor, Marika and all the staff at The Parthenis for making our holiday so perfect - we will have no hesitation in recommending the hotel to family & friends and hope to return again in the future!

The location on the beach was a major positive for me and my two young kids. The rooms and the pool area were of a good standard, clean and well maintained. We were in the executive apartment and this had plenty of space, however please note that the other apartments were more compact. The service from Mr Parthenis and his family was also to be commended. His restaurant (the Drossia) is definately worth visiting as the food and service is very good. Overall we had a good time during our stay and would definately stay there if we visit Crete again. The place is very hard to find as it is located in a narrow path off the main road and there is no sign telling you that you need to turn off for the Parthenis Beach apartments (lookout out for Supermarket Steffi and take the narrow path next to this shop). Malia is not the best place for a family with young kids especially late in the evenings when the partying crowd come out to play. The crazy tourists on their quadbikes/motorbikes speeding down the narrow roads don't help. However in its defence the Parthenis Beach apartments are in the quieter part of town so it is possible to stay away from the hustle and bustle. The list of facilities states that there is a Jacuzzi however we did not see this and the Hydrapool was out of action when we visited.

We had the 2 bedroom suite and it was gorgeous!!! The main room was beautiful with twin beds pushed together (but no wardrobes), large sitting area, functional kitchen and amazing view over pool and beach - really divine! The small bedroom attached was fine - we gave that to our kids so we could enjoy the view - but then we had nowhere to unpack - anyway we could live with that! The only serious negative was the airconditioning didn't work and the electricity went off atleast once a day everyday of our 3 day stay. The manageress was very helpful, moving us to other rooms to sleep in where the ac did work. It was a pain though when we came in from pool/beach each night to have no hot water, lights or hairdryer, the owner insisted it wasn't the hotel, but the whole area. I'm not sure. Intermittent elctricity and unreliable air conditioning.

Stayed with my family. The Executive Suite and location of the Parhenis Beach is simply great ! The kindness and "warm" service from the staff and The Parthenis Family is truly unique. Would also recommend The Drossia Resturant driven by the same management as by the hotel. Good food and not overprized.

The Hotel facilities and people were fantastic! Unfortunately, the town of Malia was disappointing because of the number of young people driving ATVs and scooters which were too noisy and dangerous for walking on the road. I wouldn't recommend walking for anyone on those roads.

My wife and I loved everything about Parthenis Beach: the room, view, pool, beach, etc. It is a fantastic value as well. The best part however is the personal attention from the hotel's owners. They are on site every day and make it their proirity to ensure all guests are thoroughly enjoying their stay.

If you are looking for luxury accomodations with 24-hr concierge service, carpeted and modern rooms, etc, then this place is not for you. This hotel will overwhelm you with its charm and warmth. It is located right on a sandy beach (most beaches there are rocky) and we were thankful we chose it instead of the other hotels in the area. The pool is wonderful with plenty of very comfortable long chairs, the owners will go out of their way for you and offer you fruits from their own harvest. I stayed in hundreds of 5-star hotels in my life and the experience at Parthenis Beach is certainly one of the best. It is very quiet, and close to everything. I highly recommend the restaurant Drossia owned by the same owners as well as the restaurant San Giorgio located in the old town, 15 minutes walk.

We spent two wonderful weeks at Parthenis Beach during easter holidays in 2011. We are a couple with travelling with a 1 year old baby and we cannot thank Helen and Parthenis enough for their hospitality and kindness. Their pool is beautiful and the beach was just a few steps away from our pool side apartment. They gave us a baby bed with no extra cost and a high chair which was great for our meals in our apartment and in the terrace. I highly recommend for anyone staying at Parthenis, his special nights where he cooks a typical dish. We tried his "Stifado" and were delighted. Sandra their assistant, arranged for us pick-up at the airport and car rental at no extra cost which were easy and convenient when travelling with small children. Our room was cleaned every day and left spotless with fresh towels. Malia in itself is very touristic and not very pretty, but well located to visit the east of Crete which is what we wanted. The old town of Malia still has its old charm so try to visit, there are two nice tavernas and a restaurant in the main square. Helen, Parthenis thank you so much for making this holiday a beatiful experience!

Excellent, 8.8
Score from 63 reviews
“I booked to stay at Socrates based on the pictures on the web site and it didn't disappoint! It is a beautiful hotel – the area around the pool is idyllic and the rooms were very clean. The location was excellent too as it is a short walk from both the town centre and the beach, which was a bonus as the rooms were so reasonably priced. What really made the stay though was the hospitality of the owners – George and Eva - where nothing was too much trouble. I would definitely recommend a stay at Socrates for anyone who is planning to visit Malia, if I am ever back in Crete, I will be staying here!” Chris, London |
