The Athens Gate Hotel10, Syngrou Avenue, Koukaki, 11742 Athens (Show map) Excellent, Score from 636 reviews“An excellent choice for visiting Athens. Athens Gate made our stay a real pleasure. The hotel has a perfect location for tourists, is spotlessly clean, and we really liked the modern decor. The staff was friendly and extremely helpful, especially during the strikes. And, of course, the roof top garden breakfast with views of the Parthenon and city was a perfect way to start any day. A great place to stay and a real value for the money!”

This hotel has a prestigious location in the historic heart of Athens. It offers 4-star facilities, excellent views of the Acropolis and Temple of Olympian Zeus, and fine cuisine. The Athens Gate Hotel is situated just 110 yards from the new Acropolis museum. It is opposite the Temple of Olympian Zeus and on the doorstep of the historical Plaka area. There is also a bar in the reception area serving coffees, drinks and light snacks all day. All the front rooms have a view of the Temple of Olympian Zeus, and 6th and 7th floor rear rooms offer stunning views of the Acropolis. Rooms with Acropolis view are offered on request basis and upon availability. All rooms are equipped with 27-inch LCD flat-screen TV, high-speed internet access and all other modern comforts. The location is perfect and the views from either side of the hotel are good. The breakfast was excellent and the rooftop restaurant was lovely. The staff were very welcoming and all in all it is a place I would recommend to anyone. Next time we travel to Athens we will stay there again. (If you use the Metro to get there from the airport the closest stop is Acropolis, not Sygrou as we were misinformed at the airport)

We had booked & paid before the financial crisis and were traveling in Europe when the riots were being shown on TV. Contacted by email, the hotel staff responded in flawless English to reassure us and give us very precise directions on how to get to the hotel. While we were there, a one-day taxi strike occurred. The staff put notices in the elevators a day ahead and counseled any guests with travel plans that would be disrupted. The Athens Gate has a large staff for the small number of guests. They were unfailingly pleasant, well-spoken and helpful. The rooftop restaurant is very good, with a wonderful view of the Acropolis. We loved the location, really enjoyed our stay and recommend to all. The hotel provides WiFi in the rooms for a daily fee and has two PCs and a printer in the lobby for free use. That might have passed a few years ago, but no one now pays for WiFi. The shared PCs are fine, but everyone needs to print out boarding passes and there was often a waiting line. They should make the large lobby a free WiFi area and provide plug-ins for the many travelers with their own equipment. There's a bar in the lobby, which would then get more use. We were traveling with a college student grandchild who is just accustomed to being online and doesn't want to have to hibernate in her room to get online.

The view from top floors facing the temple is breathtaking. As if you are sitting on a cloud and viewing the temple and ancient city. Very nice breakfast too. Crispy linen and comfortable bed, room size is also reasonable for a city stay.

The location was perfect for easy access on foot to the Acropolis, the new Acropolis Museum, the Athenian Zeus Temple, to the Plaka district for restaurants, and to the subway system to get to other parts of the city. It was just what I was looking for in a 2-day visit to Athens. The food served in the hotel restaurant was very good and a good value.

Location is excellent for seeing central sights. Roof top bar/restaurant has great views. Rooms are rather small, but not atypical for a city hotel.

The Location is the Most Important plus point about The Athens Gate Hotel. Just across the Temple of Zeus, around the corner of pedestrian street that leads to New Akropolis Museum and offering plenty of places to have dinner, lunch or even snacks. There was a very nice restaurant that serve yummy Moussaka right there on the left hand side of the street. The Service was remarkable if you already understand Greece. I stayed in Athens Gate for 2 nights after 3 nights staying in 3 star hotel in Plaka area. The Athens Gate actually bring our luggage to our room. :-) Unlike the other hotel. The receptionists are engaged with your needs, the bell boys are very honest and willing. I left my bb in the Hotel lounge sofa, they returned it to me as soon as I told them I left a phone there. The Roof Garden is great. Great View to Temple of Zeus, Akropolis, and almost every angle of Athens. Great for Sunset or Sunrise Photos. The room are clean, the room service is yummy, polite and efficient. There's international tv Channels. There's no Free Wifi. This is very annoying for me. The Wifi connection is available on prepaid card which is a bit disturbing if the only communication with people back home you're counting on is using Blackberry like I did. The entrance is very close to the street, not comfortable at all when you're arriving with 4 luggage on a taxi and the taxi driver seems to have zillion things to do after dropping you of by the very busy street.

The hotel isn't worth it's four star rating, it's way overpriced for the rooms they offer. If you want a nice hotel in Athens, do yourself a favour and look elsewere.

Excellent view of Acropolis from the Roof Garden Restaurant and on the oposite side (from our room) view of Hadrian Arch and Zeus Teple. It was absolutely marvelous... The staff cleaned our room twice every day (which was maybe even too much - ment in a good way)... Noisy street in front of the house which caused our problems with sleeping during night.

The room we were given faced the Acropolis. There was a huge terrace for our own private use which, had the weather been better, we would have made good use of. Unfortunately, although it was sunny, the temperatures in mid-January were too cold to permit us to do so. Nevertheless, the view was breathtaking even from behind the glass sliding doors in our room. The hotel personnel was very helpful and pleasant at all times. The room, although apparently one of the best in the hotel, was very small. The terrace is intended to compensate but we couldn't take advantage of it due to the cold weather. Wi-fi is not free. There are two computers in the lobby which we were able to use because it was low season and there were very few guests in the hotel, but I can imagine that during high season it must be very difficult to access either of them. The price for wi-fi cards was quite hefty.

Fabulous views from the roof top restuarant (and breakfast room). Good location on the edge of Plaka 2Nd floor room at the front was noisy due to teh traffic below (intersection of Sygrou and Amalias). Based on other reviews, I took earplugs which were essential

The location is great and very easy to get to. Staff was great and the views were picture book. We are not much into the modern design but the balcony with the view was great. Athens in general needs a good scrub brush.

This hotel is an excellent choice for anyone going to Athens to see the major tourist attractions based in the city. Very nice and effective staff; they went above and beyond to assist us with directions, restaurant recommendations, advice on metro and bus, etc. fabulous breakfast upstairs in the roof top bar/restaurant with a beautiful view of the Acropolis. We like Athens Gate so much we stayed there twice. I do not think for the $ you could get any place as good as this.

The rooftop view is amazing. Loved being close to the temple of zeus and the acropolis. Its only a 5-10 min walk to where all the restaurants and shopping is. For our short stay- we didn't hop on a metro- we did everything as it was all walking distance. Arrived late at night from the airport. The bus ended up being easy from the airport. Its the last stop- and only a 8-10 min walk to our hotel from the square. Wasn't blown away by the rooms, but was from teh rooftop view. Very much enjoyed my stay. It also felt like as soon as we left the room, they would go in and clean it. So even with a relatively short breakfast- we would come back and the room was clean. Not sure we needed to spend the extra money on the view from our room. The rooms are pretty small so we ended up going to the rooftop a lot to spend time up there as the view is better there. (We booked the 2nd best view rooms). The bed was on the wrong side of the room really- so you couldnt see the acropolis lying in bed anyway. Breakfast food was only ok.
