- the twisty mountain roads, the forest - the superb breakfast which included some local delicacies - the terrace area, quiet and cosy - the friendliness of the stuff - the sense of privacy during my stay
The hotel's location is perfect, just 5 minutes driving distance from the port of Souvala and 5 minutes walk from the sandy beach and away from noise. The rooms are very comfortable and clean with island decoration and the communal areas are carefully designed. The outdoor area is full of trees, flowers and shrubs and it is like being at your own country house and not in a typical hotel. I really felt that, staying in one of the ground floor rooms which has its own private entrance and a wonderful terrace with sea view. The staff is very helpful and the owner always willing to tell you where to go, what to see, what to eat. The breakfast is beyond any praise and nothing to do with a typical hotel breakfast as everything from cakes, bread to marmalades are all homemade! It is certainly recommended for a romantic getaway by the beach! And all of this at a very reasonable price! Just perfect! Thank you so much Noti and Maria!
Our stay at Vagia Hotel was a lovely experience. The hotel itself offers simple facilities and is decorated with a rustic charm - it's not a fancy 5 star but that doesn't matter in the slightest. What makes this hotel special and perhaps one of the best that I've had the opportunity to stay at is the hospitality of the hosts. The experience felt more like we were guests in a family's home than customers in a hotel. We were instantly greeted with drinks and baklava and given a run through the best beaches to go to during our stay, the restaurants in the surrounding area, and the predicted weather during our stay. We were given bus timetables, advice on hiring mopeds and cars, even given lifts into the local town! For nights spent drinking at the hotel the wine was very reasonably priced and was accompanied with delicious snacks. The hosts were always friendly and happy to chat. Breakfast isn't included in your reservation price but the €7 a head per day is well worth it! A table laid with freshly cooked cakes, handmade jams, omelettes, cheese pastries and many other treats kept our bellies full for most of the day! There isn't much to do in Vagia itself and, as it was quite windy when we stayed, the nearby beach wasn't ideal. However, even out of season its fairly easy to get around the island and do some exploring. There's a bus stop just outside the hotel (though it only picks up a few times a day out of season) and taxis are fairly priced (about €16 to Aegina Town or €25 to Perdika right at the other end of the island). You can walk to the beach and restaurants at Agia Marina in about an hour too if you don't mind a couple of mountains. We spent a week relaxing on beaches, hiking through the mountains, and hopping from bars to restaurants. Excluding flights our entire holiday of 6 days (including all food, drink, transport, and accommodation) cost under €600 between the two of us.
This Hotel and its staff completely exceeded my expectations. The Vagia is a comfortable and friendly hotel with fabulous breakfast and great location near the beach. Maria and her son Notis were amazingly helpful and friendly, I'll never forget them and the Vagia.
Setting gorgeous Very helpful and friendly host Yummy breakfast traditional Greek breakfast Felt like guest in their home
Staff very kind and helpful, adsising things to visit, the best beaches restaurants to go. Very relaxing place.
When we arrived at Vagia Hotel via taxi from the main port in Aegina Town, we were greeted by the fabulous Notis, who offered to help with our bags and showed us up onto the lovely porch where he offered us a drink and some of the famous orange cake I have heard so much about. The cake is worth travelling for indeed! We stayed on the top floor of the annex, which had a gorgeous view overlooking the ocean, and a wonderful breeze sweeping through our room, which was quite large and very bright and airy. The bathroom was small, but clean. The beach is less than a 5 minute walk away with free sunbeds and umbrellas. Notis also helped with any enquiry we had, even giving me written directions to walk up to the temple of aphaea, and arranging for a taxi when we decided to go into town for the evening. He gave us a list of places to go to, one being a taverna where his brother worked, so obviously we went there, and his brother was just as lovely and hospitable, he introduced us to a family friend, who then took us out to see a bouzoukia band, and we had a fabulous evening. The beds were very comfortable. The breakfasts are honestly amazing. Everything fresh and cooked with love. Maria is such a warm and friendly hostess and her orange cake is truly delicious. There are a number of little spots around the hotel where you can sit and read a book, or have a drink, such a delightful setting. The hospitality of this place is amazing, it really made me feel at home, and I can not wait to return! I was sad to leave after only 2 nights! I highly recommend this place to everyone.
The wifi was pretty much non existent in our room, but it worked perfectly elsewhere in the hotel. It wasn't really a problem because we were there to relax!
Notis was cordial and very helpful
The breakfast, though of good quality, was expensive and kind of repetitive.
Excellent location. Noti and Maria were fantastic hosts. Very helpful. Breakfast was best ever. Peaceful and relaxing environment. Would recommend and definitely go back
Staff, proximity to beach, traditional features.
Warm welcoming, friendly staff, very good breakfast, Notis is there to give good advice and help in exploring the Island, very clean and comfortable room, the decoration of the hotel, quietness, balcony with view, soft music in the evenings and mornings...
The breakfast place in front of the hotel.
The staf did only advise a bicycle tour to Athens or another island. They didn't advise trips on their own island.
Wonderful! We were made to feel like family. Nothing was too much trouble. Everywhere you look is like a postcard. Simple, tasteful, immaculate. Fabulous jazz and delicious cakes. We loved it and will definitely go back.
Nothing we didn't like! Another cover on the bed would have been nice but not a necessity. And an extra coat hanger or two would have been useful - we were three women!
A real pearl of a hotel. Lazy, jazzy tunes filled the air and provided the background music to the cicadas as we chilled on the verandah a glass of wine in a hand, cheese on our plate. A smile just settled instantly on our faces... Fabolous food (homemade, biological ingredients) at breakfast and dinner. In the afternoon, once looking for a bit of shadow, you can lounge in one of the cosy spots (deckchairs, sofas, etc) that you'll find all over the place. Very nice decor, chosen with care. The owners are extremly amiable and do everything to make you feel at home. Wouldn't the beach be only 5min away we really would've been tempted not to move at all.
Great location! Room 5 is amazing! Friendly staff, with a sense of humor. Notis and his mother (owners) are very helpful and friendly. Congratulations for the breakfast!
Nothing to say!
It really is a lovely hotel that the owners have taken great pride in. The little details are great and the staff will help with anything they can. Vagia is also a nice place if you want quiet.
More of a tip-off. If you'recoming by public transport from Aegina Town, there are few buses and the last is at 14.30 so plan accordingly. Also, Vagia doesn't have a shop as far as we could tell, so you may want to bring snacks etc beforehand.
Hi, we like all. We want to thank Noti and Maria. We are going to retern next year. Dorit radoskowicz Tel aviv,Israel
The staff were very friendly and the rooms were clean, tidy and cool which is what you need during the hot summer months. The location was pretty and not far from the beach but I would recommend a car to travel a bit further afield. I would definately recommend the hotel to anyone.
The only thing I wasn't too satisfied with was the lack of wi-fi and the TV in the room was tiny.
It's like going home, we've been welcomed very well, the team will do anything for your confort and tell you every spots you shouldn't miss. In the evening you'll enjoy the calm and the view on the Piraeus town's lights. The breakfast is also fantastic.
Very nice and relaxing environment. Few minutes from the beach with excelent breakfast
Loved Noti and his mother. The breakfast was delicious and our room was simple but very nice and clean. We had a lovely view and everything we needed. This place was an absolute gem. We wished we had stayed longer. It would actually be perfect for any family or anyone looking to relax and get away from Athens.
It was hard to figure out how to get there from the port. Maybe if they gave you directions from the port when you book?
Very friendly. Very quiet. Lots of flowers. Good place to be far away from nervous city life.
Location Price Friendly hosts Amazing breakfast
very nice place in traditional style
wi-fi in the room was very poor
