The hotel provided good communication before check-in, the rooms were clean, and the room rate was ok. Upon checking in, George provided adequate information for things to do on the island (all the while trying to get us to use his friends companies, more on that below) and the complimentary shuttle service is good (assuming they actually pick you up, again more on that below).
On the day of our arrival, I emailed Evgenia hotel that our flight from Athens to Santorini had been delayed approximately an hour. Upon landing, roughly two hours after emailing Evgenia, I had not received a reply and there was no hotel shuttle outside of the airport. We used two different cell phones to call Evgenia and no one answered and you couldn’t leave a voicemail. We hired a shuttle from the airport to the hotel and upon arriving at the hotel George, the hotel manager, was sitting a few feet outside of the reception area talking to friends as opposed to replying to the email I sent hours ago or responding to the missed calls (he was within earshot of the phone ringing). George made no comment about my email regarding the shuttle or the fact that the shuttle hadn’t picked us up from the airport when we checked in. An Evgenia employee finally responded to my email around midnight stating they were “busy” and could not pick us up from the airport.
Upon checking in, George pressured us to cancel the hotel reservation that I made through Booking.com and instead to book the reservation directly through him, which would include free breakfast. He stated breakfast was 10EUR even though the recent reviews online stated breakfast was 5EUR. Much to George’s annoyance, we did not cancel the reservation with Booking.com, since we felt Booking.com deserved to be paid for the service they provided. If it were not for Booking.com, I would not be at Evgenia hotel. On a side note, the breakfast may be worth 5EUR but it is definitely not worth 10EUR.
Moments after being pressured to cancel the hotel reservation with Booking.com, George asks us if we were going to go sailing. I told George we already had a sailing reservation… big mistake and I should have kept my mouth shut. George then proceeded to pressure us to cancel our sailing reservation since the company his friend owns is “better.
