Hotel Meson del Valle is located in central Antigua Guatemala, on the most famous street in Antigua, Arch Street.
Score from 58 reviews Good
Cozy room, friendly service, great location
No AC, thin walls (can hear everything happening in the room upstairs), small towels
Smooth linens, pretty bedrooms, free computer to use in the lobby since internet is not too strong in other places. Bathrooms have hand-painted tiles and lots of hot water. Staff are the nicest people, helpful in every way, even recommending good restaurants and cafes.
Room 103 is still small and dark despite two new lightbulbs in ceiling. TWO new bedside lamps with translucent shades would help immensely (there is only one with an opaque shade). I also suggest taking out one bed and making it a single room! Otherwise the bathroom is pretty with the tiles, sized perfectly for one person.
It was a nice, comfortable safe and secure home base for our first visit to Antigua. The staff were all friendly and helpful, and we enjoyed the light breakfast and coffee in the morning.
Great location of the hotel. Not far from the city centre. Probably 5 minutes. Rooms are very clean. Staff is friendly.
Breakfast was pretty basic. Just some fruits and bread.
Breakfast was poor and with bad service
poor breakfast! They shouldn't tell people they serve breakfast and give you 2 pieces of bread and some fruit! we had to pay some taxes of the hotel that was not included in the price when we booked it wich was really enoying because if we knew we would of stayed in another nicer place
Quiet. Beautiful. Comfortable bed. Close to everything. Magic.
Big en-suite room with a really comfy bed and great shower; quick walk into the centre but being a bit further out meant it was quiet; staff were friendly and helped to arrange trips; good security with a safe in the room; continental breakfast was basic (fruit and toast) but tasty
Trips we arranged through the hotel were slightly more expensive (approx 20%) than the going rate on the street seemed to be - but it was hassle free
There are only 9 rooms here, which makes for a pleasant and intimate experience. Rooms all very spacious except #103. Good location, near the excellent Luna de Miel crepe restaurant and Artisans' Market in the other direction.
Avoid cramped and very dark Room 103; they are going to work on lighting and re-arranging beds perhaps or taking out one single. Also it is right next to the breakfast area, so morning noise could be a problem if you wanted to sleep in.
The service was great and very friendly. The hotel and rooms were uniquely beautiful and very comfortable. It is a small but classy hotel, so you get pampered with personal attention.
It was a bit high on price in comparison to some of the more resort style hotels in the area that offer higher quality and more quantity of complementary items.
The hotel is located in a nice area not far from the center, so you do not have the crazy noise of the center, but you everything is within short walking distance. The design of the hotel was very nice, in an old colonial style. Although the bathroom was a bit on a smaller side, it had a luxarious design. The staff were friendly and helpful, were able to help arrange tours (in the end I did not do it with them as I found cheaper tours with agencies, but it was nice that they made calls and had different offers). They did not have any problem extending my stay from 2 days to 5. The breakfast was simple but nice.
In general I loved everything, but what some picky people might not like: I stayed in room 204 and for some it might be a bit dark there (but I did not stay in the room, it did not bother me and for going to bed and waking up it was actually good!). Between 7pm and 9pm you could hear some noise (I do not know where exactly it was coming from, but like young people having fun), but it was not very loud and just kind of background noise. It did not disturb me at all. It is a little bit hard to find at first as the sign is very small and flat in the wall, so when you book tours, write the name of the street as well, otherwise it always took loooooong for my shuttles to find my hotel. But as I extended my stay from 2 to 5 days, you can guess that I loved staying there. :-)
Good location, town is pretty small so you can walk anywhere anyway, loved the hot showers! Breakfast was good - fruit, toast and your choice of eggs with coffee or juice. Bed was very comfortable. Some other reviews mentioned noise but we didn't have any problems during our stay! Staff were friendly and allowed us to check in early once our room was ready. Wifi was good and consistent.
Staff weren't that helpful when it came to planning activities but there is a travel agent across the way in "yellow house" who we went to so it was easy.
We stayed in an exceptionally clean and beautiful room in great comfort, with an excellent shower (real hot water), fast internet, and a helpful staff. It was close to everything, but away from the noisy bars. Very secure and easy to find.
The noisy dog next door.
The warm and friendly attitude of the staff. The most amazing bed and pillow, they smelled clean and fresh. Loved the breakfast!!!
Nice beds General atmosphere
Probably not worth the money
Nice to be little bit aside in quiet place, but still very closely to the main streets. Comfortable clean hotel, nice breakfast but little bit small.
The ventilation in our room on first floor was poor, the ceiling fan was good but it is not enough for room with one window, adding an AC is nessecary.
Very nice accommodations. A pleasant breakfast included. Spotty wifi. Good location, able to walk to mainy nice restaurants. Staff friendly & helpful.
Able to hear neighbors occasionally.
The beds, covers and pillows were cozy and wonderful ,shower was excellent and very clean.
The WIFI was not working for the majority of my stay. Very disappointing.
The staff was willing to help at all times, being attentive with any help solicited for reservations, questions, etc.
The rooms where very hot, and the fact that they lack both air condition and fans made it that much difficult to sleep. Furthermore, in my opinion, if they could set up a rooftop restaurant/bar that would make you spend more time at the hotel.
The room was very bad ventilated and warm. Hardy no place to sit in a garden outside.
Rooms interesting and nicely appointed. Clean. Large room, bathroom, and shower. Comfy bed. Pleasant people.
Paucity of plugs to recharge cameras, phones, etc. No desk to sit down at to write notes, catch up on email, etc. In fact, there was only a seating area for one person. Our longest wall was backed up to the street so it was pretty noisy especially from about 6am to 10pm. If you are a light sleeper, I believe that ours was the only room with this issue so try to get another if available.
The beds were really comfortable as well as the linen. The cable TV had English options which was great to watch once home after a long day. WIFI was good. Showers were really good too!
Room 103 was a little noisy in the morning as we were next to the kitchen and patio area where people are their breakfast. The only other thing was there wasn't much of an atmosphere at the hotel itself which meant you didn't want to spend much time there during the day or evening.
Simple but nice small hotel
Only a small window to the courtyard, so we haven't slept well because of low air circulation
The beds are very comfortable and the decor very tasteful. Wifi is strong in the rooms.
