Incredible facilities Staff - not as customer driven as expected. Had issues getting in at night, getting help with ordering food after kitchen closed...

Extremely beautiful. Historic complex of old monastery buildings. Beautiful renovation. Beautiful grounds. Peaceful. Excellent breakfast included. Gourmet restaurant. A treat for the eyes. Pretty much central location. Free entrance to museum complex on grounds. Almost non-existing Internet reception. As one of us had to work remotely this caused huge problems, and "even in Guatemala" we expected a 5-star hotel to have working WiFi. Management refused to let us leave to go to another (modern) hotel (due to "cancellation policy") but did switch us to a junior suite (without window but with mostly working Internet) at no added cost, and checked back many times with us to see if we were OK.

We enjoyed every aspect of the stay at Casa Santo Domingo. I will recommend this place to others and will someday stay again. The autos put out such terrible tailpipe exhaust. It was nice to be in an environment however away from all those fumes. Lush, green and quiet. The onsite tour vendors need to be more in touch with their counter parts in the same area. I was quoted a price to Tikel at the hotel at $675.00 for the day. Up the street, it was $300.00 for the entire day inclusive of lunch, transfers, park entry fees, and air.

The hotel is in a great location and the settings are great. Staff could not find our reservation and we were told to come back in a few hours, they might have a room then. Manager finally assured there was a room. While waiting for check in we waited in the bar area. Our 5 year old daughter was hungry and I asked if it was possible to get a ham and cheese sandwich. I was told that I cannot order it in the bar but on the terrasse outside. I walked outside, ordered the sandwich with the staff there (the only one who was nice and he also brought it to the bar).

Beautiful restored hotel with unique big rooms, Spa and swimming pool in an old convent in Antigua. The whole place is a museum and worth visiting it. Good restaurant inside and another one up the hill "El Tenedor" which nice view towards the volcanos.

Rather than what I like, I would like to point out what I disliked. To begin, with a 5 star hotel that charges for internet service and that does not offer the service for free for all guests at least in the common areas, it is way bellow the 5-star standard. Food in the hotel restaurants was acceptable at best; the menu offered in the pool area was poor and ridiculous. The pool bar was poorly staffed and with had an extremely minimal selection of beverages to offer. Light fixtures had burned bulbs that were never replaced during the 5 days we stayed there. The room cleaning service was inconsistent. Almost every day we had to call and ask for something the crew forgot to replace or simply didn't do. We will never recommend this hotel to any or our friends who travel the world, and whoever was or were responsible for giving the hotel a 5 star rating, I would encourage visiting real 5 star hotels, and downgrade the Santo Domingo to 4 stars at best,

It gives a true sense of Colonial times. Beautiful gardens. Given the price I had expected the WiFi to be included in the price, I was disappointed to see it cost $5 per hour, seems very high. Other spots around town included it free.
