Hotel Utz Jay is located 2 blocks from Lake Atitlan in Panajachel. It offers lush gardens and fruit trees, a hot tub and a Mayan-style sauna filled with relaxing aromatic herbs.
Score from 126 reviews Very good
The location was good. The doorman was kind.
This is a sad run down hotel with a very surly front desk woman. Our room at the back was like being in a wind tunnel - it shook and rattled all night (didn't really notice the wind elsewhere). The shower didn't wotk and the bed was so unappealing I slept in my sleeping bag.
Price, view, location, room was very comfortable. Birds, caged and free were great
Hostess was not at all communicating about anything, though she did get us ice from a tray without saying a word. Hot water ran out.
Plaza Linda is in a very good location, very close to the lake , restaurants and ferry. The room is big and balcony with the good view for the lake. It is absolutely value for your money. There is hot shower too. I will absolutely come back again.
It was very well presented, large and roomy with a balcony. The shower was hot, very good. It had a great pool and location was fabulous right on the lake.
The reception gentlemen (probably the owner) was very nice, friendly and helpful. I can't even envisage a more affable guy. We got vast a room with an ocean view and a big chimney. The decor was awesome! And everything was for a low rate.
They gave us an excellent room even though our reservation had been written down in the wrong place and couldn't be found right away. They let us leave our bags so that we could explore the town before check-in time.
Pros - Great lake side view - Nice private balcony with bench - Comfortable bed
Cons - The bathroom was quite dirty when we arrived, and the shower-tub had tons of hairs and globs of toilet paper in it - The staff didn't seem the most freindly or welcoming - The lights from the hall glare into the room at night through a thin curtain - The hotel itself could use some work, e.g., fix cracks in the wall where mosquitos fly through, cover exposed electrical wires, improve sound proofing, etc.
We had a lake view room which was very large and very comfortable. Good wifi, friendly staff, lots of water pressure and hot water. It is a short walk to town and much quieter than being in the center. We also had many English language channels on the TV. We had a lovely, private deck, there was a nice garden and a small pool.
It is an older property and shows the wear in many areas but the positives outweigh this in our opinion
Hotel has a prime location. It is near the lake. The staff is very polite.
It is an uncomfortable hotel, but extremely expensive. No hot water, light is weak, windows cannot be open, TV fail. I think that a little more money I can get a great hotel.
Had an upper room - ok, beds good.Could use some tiles glued down. Hallways dingy.
in a very noisy area - wouldl not stay again based on that
large room with firm bed. nice view of the lake.
stayed three nights - room was not cleaned once. plywood shelf in bathroom was filthy. very small pool with cold water. pay attention there is a 25.5% extra charge on tax !
location near the lake, quiet at night, good view from the balcony
a little bit out of date furniture, staff was rarely present at the reception
francisco, owner of playa linda, could not have been more helpful. i requested and got a room facing the lake and volcanos. i requested and got a 530 a.m. wakeup knock. good value. would stay again..
- They honoured my request for a lake view room at no extra cost. - same day laundry service - Spacious room - mosquito nets on the windows - Proximity to lake - Near mini markets - Quiet( away from noisy streets)
- sink falling off( was fixed on second day) - Left over razor and toothbrush from previous guests - Swimming pool not usable
Position, size of rooms, relaxed atmosphere, large balcony with volcano and lake views. Good value.
No coffee available on our first morning!
The owner was incredibly sweet and accommodating, the rooms were huge and clean and the garden was great.
Very friendly helpful staff. The location can't be beat. Right by the lake. We didn't get the lake view rooms because they were all booked but I got to check out the views and they were lovely. There's also a fabulous place for breakfast just across the street and towards the dock a few hundred feet where you can dine practically on the water. The wifi worked well the entire time and while the shower was a bit on the run down side, the water was hot. This hotel is definitely not in its prime anymore - but it's a good value for the money lake view location
The beds, much like pretty much every other budget hotel in Pana, could use some refreshing. The hotels also right next to someone's backyard - so there is some rooster crowing to be dealt with in the morning. But it's not so bad.
cheap price good wi-fi wonderfull view of the Lake (room #1) great balcony Cute garden
room not so clean very noisy early in the morning (dogs bark, cars, etc.) we didn't use the pool
needs some updating.
It had wifi Large rooms Hot water Close to lake
Our reservation was not listed as reserved. The rooms were dirty and the pillow cases still had other people's hair on them. The bed sheets had holes in them and were stained. There was no "fresh," drinking water in the room, as advertised. The bathroom toilet kept leaking/making noise. For the price, it's not worth it. (Unless you are going with several people and splitting the price. If not, stay at a hostel. Save the money, and spend it elsewhere).
Staff were nice and helpful. Balcony with lakeview. Big bed and spacious room. Good value for money.
I saw mosquitoes in the room.No fan. Inside of the cabinets and drawers not so clean, found hairs.
Very close to lake nice clean and friendly
Pool was not clean maybe couse raining weather
location by the lake, woth views from balcony of lake/volcanoes; rustic furnishings and decoration; exotic garden; helpful staff; fantastic value for money
concrete building next door partially blocked view of San Pedro volcano; no restaurant on site
If you take rooms 1-5 or 26 you will a nice view of Atitlan lake. We stayed at room 2 and it was perfect. Location is good. It has even a small swimming pool and a talking parity and nice small garden.
Room is large and spacious. Large bed. Large balcony (room 2).
No place to sit down in the room - chair and table. There is one on the balcony tho.
